[cobirds] Indigo Bunting pictures, Boulder County

2012-06-15 Thread Pat and Bill Hoadley
Last Friday, June 8th, I was birding in South Mesa and had my camera
with me. I was able to get a few pictures of the Indigo Buntings near
the Dunn House. It looks like there are two males, one all blue and
the other one with brown in the wings. To view the 3 pictures click
on the link below.

[cobirds] Need help to ID bird photographed in Boulder, CO on August 3, 20ll

2011-11-19 Thread Pat and Bill Hoadley
I have been trying unsuccessfully to ID this bird, posted on the
Picasa weblink below. It was taken from the bridge across S. Boulder
Creek, at the S. Mesa trailhead. I had forgotten my binoculars, but I
had my digital camera. I got two quick pictures before it flew off.
I did not hear its' song, nor did I see any notable behavior. It
looks like an immature warbler to me. I have been trying to compare
it to several species, but I haven't had much luck.

I have an idea that it could be a Nashville Warbler because of the
distinctive eye-ring, white belly, and bright undertail coverts, but I
have no experience with that species. I'd appreciate any ideas as to
its' identity.

[cobirds] Spotted Towhee, Boulder County, CO

2011-03-17 Thread Bill Hoadley
Saw a male Spotted Towhee on the Towhee trail in south Boulder on
Tuesday, March 15th at 3 P.M. It's the first one I've seen this
spring. He was in a treetop, singing loudly. I also saw a mature Bald
Eagle flying overhead while hiking the Homestead trail. The flight
feathers were missing in the same area on both wings. It was very
distinctive. Perhaps they were tags. I took pictures of both birds
which I have not posted. It is too far away to tell if they are
tags. These trails are in the city of Boulder, starting at the S.
Mesa trailhead.
