[cobirds] Dr. Joe Roller

2020-11-26 Thread Janet Justice-Waddington
As Robert Raker just said, I also first met Joe Roller as Dr. Joseph
Roller as he did a tracheotomy on my husband. It wasn't until after he
retired that I found out he was also a birder. What a guy - it's obvious
that he never, ever used Dr. to impress birders, that was his "other life".

Re: [cobirds] Question about song of Colorado white-throated sparrows

2020-07-05 Thread Janet Justice-Waddington
I don't know about white-throated sparrows, but I remember that
Stanford, or Cal Tech (?) was doing experiments in the 1980s, on the song
sharing, changing, of white-crowned sparrows.
   Very interesting.

And, Bob Spencer kept us entertained. "Oh, there's a crane", "Where?"
"Right over there!" (It was a construction crane.)

[cobirds] Cassin's Finches

2020-04-17 Thread Janet Justice-Waddington
I have a thought about the invasion of Cassin's Finches. Remember the huge
forest fire in SW Colorado last fall, near Durango? That certainly burned
areas and areas of suitable habitat for the Cassin's.
