[cobirds] Golden-winged Warbler

2016-05-25 Thread Mary France

Tom and Mary France went to Lory State Park near Bellevue, CO, this
morning. We stopped at the Timber Trail/Waterfall Trail and Tom found a
Golden-winged Warbler around 10 AM. It was in the shrubs at eye level
north of the restroom and west of the parking lot. He did get a bad
picture of it but it is identifiable. It flew before he could get a
better picture.

We stopped by the same area later and no trace of it was found.

Last year a Golden-winged Warbler was in Lion's Open Space Area in
Bellvue. If you're bird watching anywhere in that area, be on the
lookout. Beautiful Bird!

In reporting the Whimbrel at Woods Lake near Eaton yesterday, I
listed the county as Larimer but it is actually *WELD*. I got so
excited to share the info, I neglected to check the proper county.

2015-05-06 Thread Mary France

Tom and Mary France just saw 2 Whimbrel at Woods Lake, Larimer Co,

We love to check for birds there but it is very dangerous because
there's no place to pull off the road.

Tom and Mary France saw their 1st of season Burrowing Owl today in
Weld Co. From Hwy 85 in Nunn, CO, turn east onto Co Rd 100, go to Weld

They have been there in years past but it's always great to see
them return.

[cobirds] Mountain Bluebirds, Lory State Park, Larimer county

2014-02-27 Thread Mary France

Tom and Mary France were in Lory State Park, west of Fort Collins,
this morning , 2/27/14, and saw Mountain Bluebirds. I counted 25 in 2
trees with more flying about. Most were male but we did see a couple of
female. We found them at the more southern most part of the park closer
to Arthur's Rock Trail.

Maybe Spring will get here this year!

Does anyone know why the Osprey Tower at the highway 287 cutoff in
LaPorte, Co, north of Fort Collins, was taken down?

[cobirds] Dead Finches-Larimer Co.

2013-08-31 Thread Mary France
I wanted to add that the dead Finches started showing up weeks before
the mosquito spraying in our area and continued after. I wash my
feeders with a bleach solution but, if others don't do that, diseases
could be spread in that manner.

I thank everyone for their info. If I find another dead bird, I'll get
it to Nick Komar.

[cobirds] Dead House Finches, Larimer Co.

2013-08-29 Thread Mary France

Hi,

Tom and Mary France live in SE Fort Collins and have just
discovered our 5th dead House Finch in our yard today - 3 males, 2
females, none appeared to be juveniles.
I wondered if this has occurred elsewhere and what might be causing it.
I did notice a couple acting ill - puffy feathers, not moving much.
We've never had this happen before. Could it be West Nile? Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tom and Mary France

[cobirds] Help with ID, Beebe Draw, Weld CO, possible Dunlin

Tom and Mary France were at Beebe Draw in Weld CO around noon today

2) http://www.pbase.com/canon_clicker/image/149676398
3) http://www.pbase.com/canon_clicker/image/149676401

We're thinking it's a Dunlin due to the black legs, black beak with
slight downturn and black smudge on it's breast.

Please give us your opinion.

Thank You.

[cobirds] Re: Mississippi Kite, Glenmere Park, Greeley CO., Weld County

2012-07-17 Thread Mary France

To answer the questions we are getting regarding the Mississippi Kite
we saw on Monday at Glenmere Park in Greeley CO, Weld county:

We have gone through all the pictures we took and have decided the eye
color of the 3 in the tree is inconclusive due to a lack of light.
Sorry we couldn't be more helpful.

We saw them at 10:15 AM on the south side of the lake. They were in
many trees but only deciduous trees.

Hopefully that answers all the questions.

[cobirds] Juvenile Swan, Dixon Dam Reservoir, Larimer CO, Fort Collins, CO

2011-11-20 Thread Mary France

Tom and Mary France also viewed and photographed the juvenile Swan at Dixon

stand to be corrected by the experts. We both heard one call and, to us, it
sounded like a Trumpeter.

Please feel free to view photos at:

2011-11-16 Thread Mary France
Yesterday, 11/15/2011, Dave Leatherman found 2 Black Brant in Sheldon Lake
at City Park in Fort Collins, CO (Larimer County).

Tom and Mary France went over, found the birds right away, and got pictures
of them. They were very skittish of people and stayed in the middle of a few
Cackling Geese.
They both got upset with a Gull that was invading their territory.

Tanager. If you wish to view photos, go to:

(near the community BBQ Grill area) and relocated further west near the big
tree with the branch that hangs over the trail.

[cobirds] Re: Ross's Gull

2010-11-26 Thread Mary France
On 11/25 around 2 PM, Tom and Mary France found the Ross's Gull on the
south side of the lake - directly opposite the dam. We parked in a semi-circle
area near a sign saying Wetlands Preserve, walked directly north on a trail
that led to a Bird Watching Observation Area on the water. The bird was still
a ways out there fishing with a Bonaparte's Gull. Thanks to all who have
reported it!
