[cobirds] Lake Loveland, Larimer County

2011-01-24 Thread WARNER K REESER

On Monday Lake Loveland had a tightly knit group of 18 Cackling Geese on the
ground area around the Lake. The Lake was frozen over but many Canada Geese
and Ring-Billed Gulls were hanging out on the grassy area. Some Mallards were
resting in the shade of a tree - guess the sun was too hot for them?

Boyd Lake was frozen completely - only ice fishermen there, plus one Robin

[cobirds] Boyd Lake - Larimer County

2010-06-25 Thread WARNER K REESER

June 25th:

Boyd Lake State Park:

Killdeer in abundance - high percentage young of the year.

2 Horned Grebes and one Gadwall Duck.

Western Grebes feeding their "Grebelings." A New Word? I could be tossed
out of the Bird Watchers World for that!

I meant to write Boyd Lake not Barr Lake where I saw the Inca Doves.

Sorry if I misled anyone.

[cobirds] Larimer Inca Dove

2010-05-07 Thread WARNER K REESER

May 7 = 2 Inca Doves at Boyd Lake State Park. Take the first road south -
drive past the camp ground to end of the road. They were in the parking lot at
road end. They were not skittish. Also saw 2 Swainsons Hawks north end of
same road.

Hello!

The first sign of spring for us in Loveland is when the resident Says Phoebe

2009-09-10 Thread WARNER K REESER

Sone more signs suggesting migration is moving through at Boyd Lake State Park.

Snowy Egret (1)

Osprey (1)

Franklin's Gulls (4)

The ever present Ring-billed Gulls (many)

California Gulls (3)

Common Tern (3) I hope someone else gives a look -they appeared to have more
white on the forehead than Forster's Terns.

LEAST TERN (1) Ruth saw it first with a group of the Franklin's - It is tiny!!

[cobirds] Boyd Lake, Larimer County

2009-09-01 Thread WARNER K REESER

We visited Boyd Lake State Park on Sept. l and did not see much migration
activitie there so far. however today gave a lttle increase in some areas -
Red-winged Blackbirds and Grackles are forming in large flocks. I showed one
of the Park staff an Osprey flying - she said she had seen two there earlier.
Some Pelicans showing signs of migrational intents - one Vesper Sparrow but no
Sparrow groups observed by us. Almost no waterfowl - a Lonesome George Mallard
here and there, 2 Pied Bill Grebes and a few Killdeer, probably in migration.
No big rafts of ducks on the reservoir which we expected to see. We keep
watching so we might see big numbers anytime now.

[cobirds] Rocky Mtn. National Park-Estes Park

2009-07-09 Thread WARNER K REESER

On our trip Wednesday to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park we didn't
see any Wolverines.

However we saw lots of the usual at the refuge in Estes Park, and an American
Goldfinch. At the northwest end of Bear Lake RMNP. we saw the regulars ,
White=crowned Sparrows, Broadtail Hummingbird, Mountain Bluebirds, etc..

There were two MacGillvray's Warblers chipping at the west end of Endo Valley
Picnic grounds about 100 yards up the trail toward Chasm falls..
