2017-05-26 Thread canoemary1
*Cute? Yes. A problem? Maybe. Important? Yes, a critical keystone
species.Brought to you by the Boulder County Nature Association. *

*Little Dogs of the Prairie*
*Heather Swanson*
*Indoor class: Thursday, June 8, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm*
*Field class: Saturday, June 10, 8:30 am - 12 pm, **$60 per person*

Nothing brings out people's passions more than a discussion about prairie
dogs! Whether you love or hate them, we share a long and complicated
history. These fascinating rodents have an intricate social system and
share complex relationships with many other species. Our native prairie,
and many of its plants and animals, depend on these charismatic little
burrowers. Learn about their biology, behavior, and ecological importance,
as well as many species that share close ecological relationships with
them. We will also explore our own complex coexistence with them here along
the urban Front Range. These sessions will take place in and near Boulder.

*Heather* is a Senior Wildlife Ecologist with City of Boulder Open Space
and Mountain Parks. She received her PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary
Biology from the University of Colorado. While she works with a variety of
species, for the last 12 years she's been involved with Boulder County and
City of Boulder OSMP on prairie dog and grassland conservation and
management issues.

[cobirds] 3 Spots Left, David Leatherman, "What Birds Eat"

2017-05-26 Thread canoemary1
*You don't want to miss this revealing class, brought to you by the Boulder
County Nature Association. Take your birding to the next level.*

*What Birds Eat*
*David Leatherman*
*Indoor class: Wednesday, June 14, 6 pm - 9 pm*
*Field class: Saturday, June 17, 8 am - 12 pm*
*Field class: Saturday, June 24, 8 am - 1 pm*

*3 SPOTS LEFT: Limited to 10 participants, $95 per person*

Don't just ask "What is it?" - but "What is it doing" and "Why is it
there?" A knowledge of birds' food habits can not only help you find more
birds, but answer these questions as well. In the evening session, we'll
cover the basics of bird anatomy and physiology as they relate to how birds
acquire food and sustain their activity. We'll also look at some of the
major foods used by area birds. Two weekend field trips provide unrehearsed
"live" attempts to find birds and figure out what they are eating. Bring
your curiosity and your camera. These sessions will take place near
Longmont, Loveland, and Fort Collins.

2017-04-07 Thread canoemary1
Have never attended a CFO convention & would like to. But need to cut
costs. 68 year old, non-smoker, female. Anyone interested in sharing a dorm
room? Thinking of Fri-Sat, but open.
