[cobirds] Boyd Lake - Larimer County
Boyd Lake: Near the north end of the Park we saw a Nothern Goshawk. It lit on a tree branch facing us about 20 feet away and sat there for about 5 minutes. No mistaken a Goshawk - very long red tail, verti cal bars on breast , hawk sized, and bared tail. Also later on the North end of Long Lake, among all the gulls and Mallards was one Marbled Godwit. June 25th: Boyd Lake State Park: Killdeer in abundance - high percentage young of the year. 2 Horned Grebes and one Gadwall Duck. Western Grebes feeding their Grebelings. A New Word? I could be tossed out of the Bird Watchers World for that! Warner Reeser Loveland, Co. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Colorado Birds group. We visited Boyd Lake State Park on Sept. l and did not see much migration activitie there so far. however today gave a lttle increase in some areas - Red-winged Blackbirds and Grackles are forming in large flocks. I showed one of the Park staff an Osprey flying - she said she had seen two there earlier. Some Pelicans showing signs of migrational intents - one Vesper Sparrow but no Sparrow groups observed by us. Almost no waterfowl - a Lonesome George Mallard here and there, 2 Pied Bill Grebes and a few Killdeer, probably in migration. No big rafts of ducks on the reservoir which we expected to see. We keep watching so we might see big numbers anytime now.
