Re: [cobirds] Mute Swans

2021-02-09 Thread Cinnamon Bergeron
I saw the Broadmoor Mute Swans years ago and have never reported them on
eBird. I have been seeing so many report them lately and have been tempted
to report them, but have not. I know they belong to the Broadmoor.

Re: [cobirds] Mute Swans

2021-02-09 Thread 'Jim Nelson' via Colorado Birds
The Broadmoor has had resident Mute Swans for many years, their birds,
not wild.  For those who use eBird, if you "Explore Species" for Mute
Swan in El Paso County, you won't see any sightings, though many of us
have reported the Broadmoor birds, because they are not wild and,
therefore, correctly not accepted by the eBird reviewers.  If you scan
north from El Paso County, you will see many sightings from Arapahoe
County north and then also some to the west that have been accepted.

[cobirds] Mute Swans - Boulder CO

2019-12-08 Thread Ira Sanders
Birders
Yesterday while doing our raptor routes in Boulder CO, Tammy and I had 2
Mute Swans on the pond just north of Lagerman Res. and west of the entrance
to Lagerman. Does anyone know anything about these birds? We've never seen
them at this location before.

[cobirds] Mute Swans attacking

For a change of pace, read the news about a Mute Swan that is attacking and
destroying model boats in England, where model boat clubs take their expensive
hobby as seriously as model train clubs take theirs in this country. I’m not
sure whether this swan is owned by QE2, , as some are, but they are a protected
species.

[cobirds] Mute Swans-Weld County

2009-04-30 Thread Rachel Hopper

COBirders,

Checked out Lower Latham and Beebe Draw this afternoon. Most interesting
find was a pair of Mute Swans in one of the large ponds on County Rd. 48
between 43 and 47 roads (photographed.) Another flooded field along 48 held
a couple of Long-billed Dowitchers plus the usual suspects.

A marshy pond on Rd. 45 near the intersection of 45 46 roads had the best
variety of birds including a rather large flock of ibis (75+). The ones I
could see were all White-faced but there were many in the deeper grass
outside of the water that were not clearly visible. This pond also had
Semipalmated, Least and Western Sandpipers (plus the usual).

Most numerous birds in the general area (in addition to the ibis), were
Cattle Egrets and Yellow-headed Blackbirds.

I have not seen this much water in this area for years. Should be good for a
while yet.
