[cobirds] Pink-footed Goose on New Years Day

2019-01-01 Thread Joyce Takamine
Maggie Boswell, my sister Connie and I decided to try for the Pink-footed
Goose.
We arrived around 8:30 and started scanning. We found the Long-tailed Duck
several times but did not see the goose before the Bald Eagle scattered the
mass of
geese. We continued scanning and more and more geese were arriving. We
decided
to take a break to warm up. When we returned we continued scanning from
the north end.
Soon Connie spotted the goose who was on the shore just feet from us. We
saw the Pink-foot around 10:30.

2018-12-19 Thread Ajit Antony
The Pink-footed Goose was at the northwest corner of Milavec Reservoir at 10:45
a.m. We saw it for about 10 minutes and it flew off with the Cackling Geese to
west of the pond on the golf course which is north of the reservoir.
There were also a juvenile Greater White-fronted Goose and another but adult
GWFG which may have been a hybrid with Snow Goose as it had a white front just
behind the bill but also a lot of white on the side of the face.

Re: [cobirds] Pink-footed Goose?

2018-12-19 Thread Wayne Wathen
Laura and I saw the bird I think about the same time some of you from the
Boulder Bird Club saw it around 9:45 on the edges of all the Canada Geese.
Then waves more of geese flying in plus the wind and the Pink-footed was
somewhere in the masses but difficult to hold binoculars steady and not get
blown over looking for more sightings of the bird.

We then headed over to try to find the Gyrfalcon but no luck this time. The
land fill was closed because of the high winds and the falcon likely was
hunkered down out of the wind somewhere. We made several slow passes up and
down both Trilby Road and primarily Taft Hill Road to no avail. But it was
still a good outing with if approved a new ABA bird.

Re: [cobirds] Pink-footed Goose, Weld County

2018-12-13 Thread elena
Thanks to Michael for finding the Pink-footed Goose at this lovely reservoir,
and thanks to the birders who kept eyes on him/her. What a treat! The goose
took off close to sunset with thousands of white cheeked (looked like mostly
Cackling) geese who flushed when a juvenile bald eagle flew over, but it looked
like the flock might settle back on the reservoir. That reservoir is a
treasure.
