[cobirds] RMBO CBR banding Thursday
Hi COBirders, More like normal numbers today. We were closed by the wet yesterday, and today it threatened all morning, but we had about half out nets open for most of the morning. After seeing dozens of Wilson's Warblers in the woods and desert brush yesterday, most were gone today. Looks like THEY departed, and others were prevented from arriving by the heavy rain here, and to the North. Only 20 birds banded today, about 1/2 Wilson's and Yellow Warblers, a few Swainson's Thrush, and a few Pewees and Willow and Cordilleran Flycatchers. What is remarkable is that there were ZERO Spizella sparrows today! Full report to follow. [cobirds] RMBO CBR Banding- Thursday
Hi COBirders, RMBO Banding report for Chico Basin Ranch (El Paso Co), Thursday 5/10/2012 Cool and calm start, and many birds were moving, but appeared to be moving OUT at sunrise. A small wave of new warblers arrived about 830, and they moved out too. A third small wave occurred about 11am. The bird-of-the-day of course, was the second Worm-eating Warbler of the spring, aged SY, that I banded. It was first seen by Brandon Percival, John Drummond, et. al. about 830, near the damper area, then caught 20 minutes later on the N edge of the grove. Maybe it was on its way out, as well. It didn't have much fat, so it MIGHT stay around, but I didn't hear of anyone seeing it later. Many MacGillivrays's Warblers arrived today, and several FEMALE warblers today (mostly we've been seeing males). New Birds Banded today: 36 Least Flycatcher 1 Western Kingbird 1 (FOS, ASY (After Second Year) m) House Wren 2 Swainson's Thrush 1 (a major departure from the last two days) Hermit Thrush 5 Orange-crowned Warbler 1 Yellow Warbler 2 (both f) Audubon's Yellow-rumped Warbler 3 (2 m, f) Worm-eating Warbler 1 (SY) MacGillivray's Warbler 6 (1 ASY m, 4 SY m, 1 f) Common Yellowthroat 1 (m) Wilson's Warbler 1 (ASY m) Western Tanager 1 (FOS, ASY m) Spotted Towhee 1 (m) Chipping Sparrow 6 Lincoln's Sparrow 2 Common Grackle 1 (FOS, ASY m) Not sure what others saw beyond these. Still haven't netted an oriole although they have been around for a week.
