[cobirds] Townsend's Warbler at Ken Caryl, JeffCo
Maybe there is a Townsend's trend, as I enjoyed one, too, this evening. An adult male appeared with a neat little warbler flock in my backyard, with 11 Yellow-rumpeds (Myrtle, Audubon's and Myrtlebon's) and my first Orange-crowned Warbler of the season. By the way, here is a neat Ken Caryl Ranch field trip opportunity that just was added with DFO for May 17 : https://dfobirds.org/FieldTrips/Register.aspx?TripID=13925 There are still a few spots open for this trip that will be a *hike *of up to 7 miles, with great bird song potential. [cobirds] Townsend's warbler
Hello, the Townsend's warbler is one of my favorite birds and I have heard that it is a bumper year for them. Does anyone have any recommendations on where I should go to see them and to get decent photography opportunities with them in Larimer county? Thanks! [cobirds] Townsend's Warbler, El Paso
Just now (15 minutes ago) had a Townsend Warbler in the back yard, contemplating our "bubbling boulder" fountain from an ornamental cherry above. Both a new yard bird and yes (!) a new life bird for me. Marty WolfNW Colorado Springs -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group. [cobirds] Townsend's Warbler at Lamar Community College Woods (Prowers) 4/21
Hi Everyone, On my way home from Kansas this weekend, I stopped at the Lamar Community College Woods this morning 4/21. At the north end, I saw a male Townsends Warbler and a male Orange-crowned Warbler (he kindly showed me his orange crown; it was one of the brighter subspecies) among the many Yellow-rumps. A Hermit Thrush was in the middle part of the woods, and a House Wren was busy in the big brush pile at the south end. [cobirds] Townsend's Warbler, RN Sapsucker, CSR, El Paso Co, Thur
Hi COBirders, There was a good migrant arrival at dawn this morning, at Clear Spring Ranch. Frenetically feeding in a couple of tamarisks were several Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Audubon’s Yellow-rumped Warblers, and a male Townsend’s Warbler (FOS). Later the snag was visited by a male Red-naped Sapsucker. Of course, all of these stayed ABOVE my nets, but I had a good morning of banding sparrows and a male Com Yellowthroat, nonetheless. [cobirds] Townsend's Warbler Male
At the cemetery at the Veterans Center at Home Lake (Rio Grande County), Lisa and I found a male Townsend’s Warbler. This represents one of just a few spring records for the species in the San Luis Valley. At our home, we counted 32 species of birds today as birds were on the move throughout the day. Best birds were BG Gnatcatcher, GT Towhee, and 4 species of sparrows. John Rawinski Monte Vista, CO -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Colorado Birds group. [cobirds] Townsend's Warbler -- Pueblo 5/6
Not even close as exciting, as the Swainson's Warbler seen in Bent County yesterday (Great find!). I saw a male Townsend's Warbler in the Osprey Picnic Area, in Rock Canyon, below Pueblo Reservoir dam, before 8am this morning. It was with a flock of Yellow-rumpeds, and a Plumbeous Vireo. All three normal species of kingbirds, were present as well this morning. [cobirds] Townsend's Warbler
We had a total of 15 birders participate in our Alamosa bird trip. The day started out sunny and not too breezy. Immediately, at the Alamosa Cemetery, we found the bird of the day...A male Townsend’s Warbler (Alamosa County), amongst an Orange-crowned and a Yellow-rumped Warbler. Townsend’s Warbler is fairly common during fall migration but very unusual in spring with only a handful of springtime observations for the Valley. Ruby-cr Kinglets and their nervous actions gave us a challenge. Downy Woodpecker and White-breasted Nuthatch were also nice finds. South River Road was exciting as well. Lesser Yellowlegs, American Avocets, Blue-winged Teal, Redheads, Swainson’s Hawk, Western Kingbird, and Great Horned Owls were highlites. A dead bobcat carcass in a tree raised some curiosity as well! How did it get there??? But then the winds came. We birded Blanca Vista Wetlands (Alamosa Ranch) and saw Ring-billed Gulls and Western Grebe. In all, 53 species of birds were recorded for the half day event. Very good morning. [cobirds] Townsend's Warbler -- Pueblo 4/27
While birding with the DFO Field Trip this morning in Pueblo, we saw a male Townsend's Warbler. It was in the tall cottonwood trees, along the paved bike trail, below Pueblo City Park, and east of the footbridge, along the north side of the Arkansas River. The pair of Eastern Phoebes continue near this footbridge as well. One Green Heron was in Pueblo City Park at the pond, then flew north west toward the Arkansas River. [cobirds] Townsend's Warbler - Erie, Weld Co.
A lucky brake from my bike ride produced a spankin' Townsend's Warbler along the Coal Creek trail between Vista Pointe and old town Erie. The bird was in a couple of cottonwoods right next to the creek, just west of the gas well next to the trail. Bullock's and Western Kingbirds back in full force. [cobirds] Townsend's Warbler Migration, Larimer County
I just returned from a 4-day backpack patrol as a Poudre Wilderness Volunteer for the USFS in the Rawah Wilderness. There was a major migration of Townsend's Warbler through the Medicine Bow Range on Friday and Saturday, but I saw nary a one on Sunday or today. They were seen between 9500 and 11000 feet of altitude, and had some Audubon's Warblers mixed in with them. It was hard to get any kind of an estimate on how many, but my guess is that I saw at least 3 dozen Townsend's. I also had a Northern Goshawk speed through the krumholz at 11000 feet in pursuit of a small flock of juvenile White-crowned Sparrows, just below Island and Carey Lakes at the top of the West Branch Trail. [cobirds] Townsend's Warbler- Larimer
I took a hike through Lory State Park today and had a lot of bird activity with all the juveniles out. I had one male Townsend's Warbler in with a group of nuthatches and chickadees. I know this isn't an early date for them, but it is the earliest for me. Just a quick note to keep an eye out for them! I also had one juvenile Northern Goshawk flying through the west valley and three Orange-crowned Warblers near Arthur's Rock trailhead! Best, Mike Freiberg Nikon Birding Market Specialist 1225 W.
