[cobirds] white ibis, Riverbend Ponds, Fort Collins

2022-07-17 Thread Jay Breidt
Last Tuesday, Dilka Murtazina found and photographed a white ibis at
Riverbend Ponds in Fort Collins. To my knowledge, no one else was able to
get on this bird in spite of diligent searching until this morning, when
Mike and Libby Edwards relocated the bird in the same spot Dilka had
originally found it. It was still present just after 2PM today, at the
following location:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/40%C2%B034'21.4%22N+105%C2%B001'45.2%22W/@40.572611,-105.029212,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x7b949191bab8b42!8m2!3d40.572611!4d-105.029212

The map will make it look as if the site is in the northwest lobe of one
giant pond, but the water is now shallow enough to make the site a separate
pond.

Riverbend Ponds has three parking areas: north parking area off Timberline
Road, south parking area off Prospect Road, and northeast parking area off
Cherly Street. Prospect might be the most convenient. From there, head
north and west until the river stops you, and turn north. Hope it sticks
around!

Not sure if this has been reported here yet, but starting yesterday a handful
of reports started coming in for a White Ibis at Belmar. It continues today on
the island in the middle of the lake. Seems possible that this is the same one

I presume this is the same bird that’s been hanging out in Fountain Creek

This morning just before 8am I found a WHITE IBIS in South Rice's Pond in
Fountain Creek Regional Park. It has since been observed by many birders
moving around the pond.

I answered David on this, but I should have hit "reply all." I could not
find it this morning. It was the first day of dove hunting season, and
there were gunshots going off constantly. I did not go down the two-track
road, because there was a lot of gunfire coming from there. There was also
someone actually hunting in the marsh.

Re: [cobirds] White Ibis yes

2018-08-29 Thread Duane Nelson

All,

I saw the adult White Ibis at 4 p.m. today, but it took a little work.
Shut out at Bent County Road JJ at Gageby Creek, I tried an option. I
drove a little bit west to Van's Grove. I took a two-track road exactly
south of the entrance to Van's Grove. I cautiously drove 1/4 mile south,
and reached a clearing. Just before the two-track hit a sandy spot, I
parked. I was a couple of hundred yards closer to the mud flat where
herons, egrets and pelicans roost. Since this location is so far west,
silt from the Arkansas River accumulates at high water levels, and
walking very far is impossible. But. . ., a lot more of the mud flat is
visible than at Road JJ. In a few minutes, the White Ibis flew in, and I
was able to see it well and photograph it poorly.

A word of caution. Trying to drive too far may result in a costly towing
bill. Proceed with prudence.

This was my second adult White Ibis in Bent County. The first was in the
1990s, at the exact same spot. That bird was north of Road JJ at the
Gageby Marsh, close enough that binoculars weren't necessary.

It's where the road dips a bit to cross a bay of John Martin Reservoir.

2017-06-21 Thread Luke Pheneger
Hi all,

At 7:07 pm while stuck in traffic my mom and I had the luxury of having the
White Ibis fly about 100 feet over our car while merging onto I-70 luckily
we had our binoculars ready and were able to get as good of looks as we
would hope from sitting in the car. The bird was heading South East, and
talking to the other birders at the ponds they said that it flew off just a
bit earlier. If it doesn't show up back at the ponds later today or
tommorow, checking those lakes and ponds South East from Clear Creek Valley
Park might be a good idea. We checked the other ponds around Clear Creek
such as Lake Sangraco and Jim Baxter Reservoir but it hadn't shown up
there. But there were a few Cattle Egrets roosting at Lake Sangraco.

White Ibis is still present at 10:50. To clarify location further, at the
intersection of Tennyson and W 58th Ave (address is Arvada), there is a
park called "Clear Creek Valley Park". This is a very new park, and only
recently open to the public. There is good parking here, and the ponds
discussed are to the south of the parking lot. Ibis is presently on the
far west side of the pond, clearly visible from the main sidewalk. Great
look at a bird that's tough to find here! Best of luck to everybody!

[cobirds] White Ibis records for CO

2017-06-20 Thread Brandon
Make sure to document the White Ibis for the Colorado Birds Records
Committee (CBRC) (http://coloradobirdrecords.org). There are only nine
accepted records of this species in Colorado. First one back was back in
1985 in Kiowa County. The last one was in 2014 in Larimer County, a one
day wonder it appears. I believe the first one was an immature bird, and
all the other eight accepted records have been adults. I've seen three
White Ibis in Colorado, and doubt I will be chasing this one up north, so I
won't be able to document this one.

Re: [cobirds] White Ibis new location in Adams County

2017-06-19 Thread Douglas Kibbe
To clarify Nick's location description just a bit for those not familiar with
the Lowell Ponds area, the "pond with a swim beach and heronry" is Lake
Sangraco.

To view the island with the heronry you should approach up Lowell Blvd. from
the south . There is room to pull completely off the boulevard on the east
side.

Whether this is strictly legal depends upon where you are relative to the "no
parking " signs.

The white ibis is sleeping among over 60 Snowy Egrets but can, with patience,
be picked out (red bill and feet are a clue).

It is likely that it will return to Lowell Ponds tomorrow morning.

Colorado Facebook page today of a White Ibis he saw in Alamosa at 10:30 this
morning. It was seen about a mile north of the golf course in a group of
White-faced Ibis.

Looks to be the 5th state record of White Ibis in Colorado on ebird!

Re: [cobirds] White Ibis! Alamosa, Alamosa County

2013-07-26 Thread CloverLane

Brian Harmon originally saw the ibis a mile or so north of the golf course
on the north river road. He just saw it again but it was about 2 miles
from the original location. If you'd like to call Brian, he'll be happy to
assist in locating the bird. His number is 719-937-1584.
