Re: [CODE4LIB] Scanned PDF to text

The process I've started with -- use imagemagick to convert to tiff and tesseract to pull out the OCR -- is more system intensive than I hoped it would be. I asked around the office and the process seems sensible overall. One suggestion was to use pdfimages instead of imagemagick as that should be faster. However I would guess that most of the processing time is actually spent in tesseract so I don't know how much this suggestion will improve the overall performance. Jessie Keck and I discussed getting together to watch; this thread is as good a place as any to decide where! :-) We are four Danes who are planning on watching the Super Bowl as well. I'm scheduled to get into Indianapolis around 7:15. Then I'll rent a car and drive to Bloomington. Thanks to the bloat added by the extra commercials and extended halftime show, I *might* make it in time to catch some of the 4th quarter. Anyone else planning to watch the game, in whole or in part? Got any specifics on where? I'll be dragging a colleague along to watch it with me. Hopefully we'll be able to watch the game right from the kick off but it all depends on what shuttle bus we manage to catch from Indianapolis. I know absolutely nothing about the sports bars (or anything else for that matter) in Bloomington but Nick's English Hut seems like a nice enough place and it is located pretty close to the IMU Hotel. So is anyone else up for watching the game? [CODE4LIB] Getting added to planet.code4lib.org
I hope this is the right way to go about his. After a couple of us from the State and University Library in Aarhus, Denmark attended code4lib 2009 we thought it would be nice if our development blog was aggregrated on planet.code4lib.org. The feed is here: http://sbdevel.wordpress.com/feed/ So if anyone here can add it (and finds the blog interesting enough) that would be great. Kind regards. Mads Villadsen
