You have netbeans_jdkhome pointing here:

netbeans_jdkhome="C:\Program Files\Java\jdk-12.0.2"

Make sure that that is correct.

Change these:

netbeans_default_userdir="${DEFAULT_USERDIR_ROOT}/11.1"
netbeans_default_cachedir="${DEFAULT_CACHEDIR_ROOT}/11.1"

...to these:

netbeans_default_userdir="${DEFAULT_USERDIR_ROOT}/11.1a"
netbeans_default_cachedir="${DEFAULT_CACHEDIR_ROOT}/11.1a"

Then save the file. Then restart.

So you need to have permissions on the file to change it. Sending it to me will
not change that. Right-click the file, go to Properties, and look at the

No one has said you should go to Users->MyName.

Please go to where you have installed NetBeans IDE.

There you will find a folder named 'etc'.

In that folder you will find a file named 'netbeans.conf'.

Can you send that file to geertjan.wiele...@oracle.com or change the
netbeans_default_userdir and netbeans_default_cachedir settings inside that
file to point to non-existing folders?

> The pom.xml for new Java EE projects targets JDK 1.8. Most servers already

> projects.

If you haven't opened it, you're not inside of it. :-)

netbeans_default_userdir="/Users/geertjanwielenga/netbeans/11.1"
netbeans_default_cachedir="/Users/geertjanwielenga/netbeans/11.1"

The above is something like what you should see near the top, just change it to
something different, save, and then restart, e.g.:

netbeans_default_userdir="/Users/geertjanwielenga/netbeans/11.1a"
netbeans_default_cachedir="/Users/geertjanwielenga/netbeans/11.1a"

Or go to those two locations and delete those two folders and they'll be
recreated.

Basically this resets NetBeans to its default configuration.

Good call!

I hadn't even noticed that the shell and the platform are completely different
from each other (derp)

C:\Program Files\NetBeans-11.1\netbeans\etc\netbeans.conf
netbeans_jdkhome="C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_201"

JShell doesn't work anymore, but my shortcuts are back, and that's all I really
needed. Thanks!

Just tested to try this out, switched Netbeans 11.1 to use the same JDK that
I'm using in 8.0.2 (jdk1.8.0_201) but the issue persists.

Left Alt works fine, but the Right Alt cannot be used for shortcuts

Confirmed. I can reproduce similar problems with 11.1 on Mac on JDK 12, but
when I use JDK 8 with 11.1 I cannot reproduce it.

Geertjan Wielenga commented on NETBEANS-639:

Are you running 11.1 on the same JDK as 8.2? If not, can you use the JDK with
the IDE where this does not work from the one where it does? I.e., this could
be a JDK issue.

Jacob commented on NETBEANS-639:

This issue is still present in 11.1 - Shortcuts cannot be defined or used with
the Right-Alt key.

Is there any chance that this can be addressed?

This is a major usability issue for me, and I've switched back to using 8.0.2
for now.

[~patton73] as it is not a misbehaving code, but a non-existing/needs-to-be
implemented one, I treat that an improvement. I know it is convenient to type
feedback of multiple issues in one place, and I'm really glad to have those
feedback, though the second part of your comment covers: NETBEANS-2832 which
has a PR in review.
 This one would be eventually solved as well sometime in the future.

This is a bug to me not an improvement. Old pluging had it. And if we canno see
tests output in netbeans consolle is a real problem.

We are stuck with netbeans 10 version since test output are not shown anymore.

More if with gradle we use interactive commands, now we cannot launch tasks
anymore because the interactive output is not shown in the consolle

and gradle does not accept user input.

> I have a multi-project gradle build with a settings.gradle implementation
> that auto-detects the subprojects.  So whenever a subproject gets
> added/removed/renamed (either directly, or as the result of a git branch
> checkout), the root project build.gradle and settings.gradle do not need to
> be modified at all.
> Currently, the gradle support assumes that projects only need to be reloaded
> when build.gradle or settings.gradle change, but my build breaks this
> assumption.
> So the behavior in my case is that I am not even able to manually browse to a
> new subproject and open it, until after I make a meaningless edit to
> build.gradle or settings.gradle.  The new subproject folder is not even
> recognized as a gradle project in the "open project" dialog until I have
> touched one of those files.
> This behavior is broken.  Ideally, projects that come and go would
> automatically get noticed, and the IDE would update immediately.  But
> assuming that's non-trivial to implement, it would be acceptable to simply
> add a manually-triggerable "force project reload" action somewhere in the

[jira] [Commented] (NETBEANS-2735) Gradle - Custom tasks (in gradle.properties) do not propagate to sub-projects

Right now that is by design. Do you have a use case, how would you use it if
these actions were kind of "inheritable" from the root project?

Geertjan Wielenga updated NETBEANS-3027:

Description:
Proposal: To help the user understand what they see in the Samples category in
the New Project dialog, distinguish between Ant-based and Maven-based samples
in the same way as done earlier for project templates:

1. Put all Ant-based Java samples in 'Java with Ant'.
2. Put all Maven-based Java samples in 'Java with Maven'.
3. Put Maven above Ant to indicate this is more likely to be the preferred
approach.
