Re: [transaction] AbstractXAResource throws exception on TMJOIN
Oliver Zeigermann oliver.zeigermann at gmail.com writes: But even more, may understanding is that the user will never see an XAResource and will never try to get an instance of it. It simply is an interface between the transaction manager of your container and your resource manager. Ok, this might be the reason for my different views up to now. Is an XAResource always supposed to be accessed through JCA, i.e. the resource adapter is an implementation of JCA? I got the impression when having again a look on your transactional Map implementation. Unfortunately the JTA spec does not speak about this point (JCA), only mentions JDBC and JMS, which might be an analogy here. Yet another spec/API I have to look at ... and maybe the JTA spec makes more sense with this changed view. feature addition proposal: disconnected jdbc statement
Hi, I've developed a class library to allow use of jdbc statements (Statement, PreparedStatement, CallableStatement) in a disconnected environment (i.e. a situation where a jdbc connection is not available). This library can be thought as the counterpart of the CachedResultSet class. I believe this library (about 6 classes) could be hosted in the common-dbutils project. Please let me know if you are interested. More in detpth: Why this library can be useful: I think this library is enough general to be used is projects outside mine. In my project (an ESB like very customized for a customer) I have a situation where a mapping between messages occur faraway from the connection handling. For managing the case when the connection is of jdbc type I had to develop this library. The usage pattern is like the following: Disconnected phase: DisconnectedPreparedStatement statement=DisconnectedStatementFactory.prepareDisconnectedStatement(select * from SYS.SYSTABLES where TABLETYPE=?); statement.setString(1,S); connected phase: statement.setConnection(conn); statement.setConnected(true); ResultSet resultset=statement.executeQuery(); statement.setConnected(false); conn.close(); disconnected phase: log.info(resultset: +resultset.toString()); It's not possible to call all the statement methods' during the disconnected phase. Basically callable methods are the ones returning void. The inner working is that called methods are memorized and called in the correct sequence when setConnected() is invoked. Result set returned during the connected phase are all of CachedResultSet type and thus can be used in a disconnected environment. Also out parameter of callable statement are handled. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[all] Commons Metadata (revisited)...
I have been looking through Commons Attributes trying to figure out if there was a way to have it do what I want to do with Commons Metadata, but I haven't had any luck. Basically, I want to come up with something like Commons Logging, which would be a wrapper around different metadata APIs (JDK5 annotations, commons attributes, etc.). There needs to be a way to provide metadata/annotation information for a class without necessarily having the source code (which JDK5 and commons attributes require). - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[scxml] processing multiple events
I'm puzzled by the behavior of the scxml engine when I enter multiple events (separated by spaces) at one time. For example, when running the Standalone version with test script transitions-01.xml, and in state 'ten', I would expect to be able to enter events 'ten.done twenty_one.done twenty_two.done' and have the machine process all of them and go to state 'thirty'. However, the system only takes the first transition, to state twenty/twenty_one. Looking at the code, I think that there is a problem in triggerEvents in SCXMLExecutor.java. The method consists of a do loop, with each iteration through the loop processing a single event. However at the bottom of the loop, we have: if (superStep) { evs.clear(); } } while(superStep currentStatus.getEvents().size() 0); so if 'superStep' is true, the event list is cleared (via 'evs.clear'). However, if 'superStep' is false, the 'while' condition will cause the loop to exit after the first iteration. So multiple events will never get processed. I find that if I comment out both conditions mentioning superStep, the multiple events do get processed and the system transitions to state 'thirty'. These complications may arise from the semantics of superStep and its interaction with the Standalone environment. The simplest change would be to change the upper condition to 'if (! superStep)...', but I would think that in that case the events should not be thrown away, but rather left in the queue for further processing. Or am I completely off base? - Jim P.S. I have been able to compile the code, thanks to the previous pointers to the commons-build area. Many thanks. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: feature addition proposal: disconnected jdbc statement
The library is in effect an implementation of the statemets interface that become a wrap in the connected phase. This is obtained using the java.lang.reflect.Proxy API. I didn't wanted to write a proxy for the entire JDBC API, starting from connection. This also because a lot of objects can't be useful without a live connection. For the statements things instead are different. The problem I had with the jdbc API is that I can't do anything with statements without a connection. So first you must connect, then build and prepare the statement. I want to do this two things in the inverse order: first build and prepare and then connect and execute. bye Raffaele On Fri, 2005-11-18 at 16:45 +0100, Thomas Dudziak wrote: On 11/18/05, Raffaele Spazzoli [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, I've developed a class library to allow use of jdbc statements (Statement, PreparedStatement, CallableStatement) in a disconnected environment (i.e. a situation where a jdbc connection is not available). Re: [scxml] processing multiple events
On 11/18/05, Barnett, James [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I'm puzzled by the behavior of the scxml engine when I enter multiple events (separated by spaces) at one time. However, the system only takes the first transition, to state twenty/twenty_one. snip/ Jim - Thanks for asking. The space separated list is the list of events received between the last trigger and the current one (this is the asynchronous time model for state charts, where the engine reacts whenever an external event is received -- as against the synchronous model where one step is executed per unit time/clock tick). In fact, this does not imply any temporal associations between the events being fired based on the sequence in which they appear in the space separated list. Moreover, all the events in the space separated list operate over the set of candidate transitions that result from the ancestor closure of the states that were active when the trigger was received i.e. all events in a space separated list operate over the *same* ancestor closure. The correct way to imply the temporal sequence that you refer to for this SCXML example [1], therefore, is to fire events separately as ten.done, twenty_one.done and twenty_two.done, in that order, rather than a space separated list. Note this does not mean the engine disregards multiple events when fired at a time. You can verify that multiple events are accounted for by specifying this list foo.bar ten.done bar.foo when in state ten, and observing that the appropriate transition for event ten.done is indeed followed. A better example might be the trigger thirty_one_child_one.done thirty_two_child_one.done thirty_three_child_one.done right after entering the parallel and noting that *each* of the orthogonal states follow their transitions. Looking at the code, I think that there is a problem in triggerEvents in SCXMLExecutor.java. The method consists of a do loop, with each iteration through the loop processing a single event. However at the bottom of the loop, we have: snap/ Each iteration is not processing one event, rather all events in that trigger. Note that the constructor for Step takes the entire list of events, not just the first one. if (superStep) { evs.clear(); } } while(superStep currentStatus.getEvents().size() 0); so if 'superStep' is true, the event list is cleared (via 'evs.clear'). However, if 'superStep' is false, the 'while' condition will cause the loop to exit after the first iteration. So multiple events will never get processed. I find that if I comment out both conditions mentioning superStep, the multiple events do get processed and the system transitions to state 'thirty'. snip/ The superStep concept, and that bit of code, is orthogonal to the space separated event list question you ask above. That bit of code merely ensures that if the external triggers have caused any internal events fired by the SCXML engine to be enqueued for processing, the external trigger list be cleared so the external triggers are not considered to have been fired once again when the engine takes a stab at processing the internal events. Ofcourse: a) One only needs to continue iterating if the engine is processing triggers as a superstep, and b) One needs to continue iterating until the state machine reaches a stable configuration, whereby all internal events have been processed and the event queue has been exhausted. These complications may arise from the semantics of superStep and its interaction with the Standalone environment. The simplest change would be to change the upper condition to 'if (! superStep)...', but I would think that in that case the events should not be thrown away, but rather left in the queue for further processing. snap/ Indeed, if events were thrown away that'd lead to extremely undesirable behavior. But, as pointed above, that is not the case. Or am I completely off base? - Jim P.S. I have been able to compile the code, thanks to the previous pointers to the commons-build area. Many thanks. snip/ Thanks for the nudge :-) In addition, if you update your local SCXML root from the Commons Sandbox repository, you won't need commons-build anymore. I'm tempted not to include this, though. Getting a release out is probably the highest priority. IMHO i need to be certain that everything's exactly right before i'm willing to commit it. i was trying to work through the issues and making sure i understood them but this went a bit quiet. either of the two Joerg's around to advocate it's inclusion? My original proposal was to add getName to the Log interface, but I used it to create a getChildLogger functionality. Joerg Howiller added a new LogFactory interface extending Log to ensure backward compatibility, where this new functionality and other things have been added. To use the new functionality I have to cast every Log instance, but since I might also have to deal with an implementation of another party, I cannot rely on it. So for my personal use case, this solution is also not appropriate, since in such a case I still have no valid fallback. I understand now, that my naive first proposal would backward break compatibility I would rather wait for a 2.0 version of JCL to add this. That version might break compatibility anyway (and might therefore also need new package names). - Jörg Hi there, am still a little busy on other projects and private stuff but I am still on it. I am very keen on the issue (my proposal) but I definitivly agree that small steps (first a release without such new stuff and then take some time to think where we are definitvily going for the long run) makes sense. To say it once again and clearly now: My vision is an alternative usage of log4j. I do not like the LogFactory and all the CCL stuff that causes so much trouble. But alternative also means for me that the current way JCL is used will of cause remain, be supported and may still be the suggested one (not suggested by me but maybe by the majority). I simply imagine of a way to get an initial instance of the new Logger interface in a software-component. To create sub-loggers I would use the getChildLogger method. The software-component itself does not know and matter where the Logger instance comes from. It will automatically be injected by a IoC-Container-Framework or in a JUnitTest, The Framework may decide if it only creates an initial Root-logger and itself uses the getChildLogger or wheter it has a LogFactory to create every instance by its name. The important fact is that currently IoC Frameworks force me to use their own propritary logging API (best example is/was avalon) or to do wired configuration stuff (best example is spingframework) just to get a logger for the component. I see a future of programming where all the various open-source projects out there produce software components that can be integrated easily. Currently I end up with various logger implementations and also various logfiles for one huge open-source application build out of many libraries and glue-code. That sucks! In business administrators say in such cases that open-source software is more expensive than commercial software that is integrated by design. We need a standard logging API! For me this can potentially only be commons-logging. But as we have seen me and many others (also many people not names Jörg) require a little extended API. I am willing to keep on the discussion if someone has questions about or other (better) suggestions than my proposed Logger interface. Just to let you know: I know projects in open-source and in business that decided not to settle on JCL because of the wired CCL stuff in LogFactory. With my proposal JCL will also increase focus on being used/seen as an API and not as a library. The API!
