The free and open Anti-iPhone rhetoric surrounding the FIC phone is therefore marketing drivel to sell a Chinese Windows Mobile device as a hobbyist kit for phone hackers. Hardiness of the Neo1973?
Hi. I've been following this project for a couple years with great interest but I have a few questions (for those with gen1 and just those with some knowledge of the possibilities/limitations of the hardware) How hardy is the unit? I realize it has no moving parts but could it take repeated jarring up and down? Also, is it too heavy or too big for an armband strap? I'm a marathon runner and words cannot describe how astounding it would be for me to be able to find a waterproofed armband case for this unit to take on runs. Not only could it provide cell service in case of emergencies and act as my portable music player but with the gps and accelerometers I could (with a little help) get some useful runners' apps in place to track important numbers on runs -- not just times on terrains but even stride data (assuming the accelerometers are sensitive enough to track arm swing + impact). Assuming the unit is up to these tasks I fully intend (with a gen2 in hand) to try to get an app up and running for logging this type of info ... anyone who thinks this is a good idea or has any additional thoughts, I'd love to hear them! So there is definetly something wrong with the neo sucking up it's power when it's supposedly off. There is. It's not there yet, it will be fixed in time. Re: Convince me NOT to cancel my order.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] IMHO, Your response here to Joe was uncalled for and frankly, rude. I also resent the implication that I and others are disgruntled whiners. While gentleman may agree or disagree, there is little to no call for this kind response to such a minor observation or suggestion. My point is starting this topic was to bring attention to the fact that probably 500 to 1000 potential developers were likely to get saddled with GTA01 phones right before the GTA02s were released and that FIC staff were not providing sufficient information about likely delivery dates. We are volunteers TRYING to put up our time and money to move this along, but due to understandable circumstances many of us are being left out. FIC should be more open about the schedules if they expect volunteers to contribute time and effort. It would also be quite understandable for a potential developer to be annoyed that he just payed for a GTA01 and the GTA02 come out within days. FIC should proactivly mitigate this possible scenario. More on the future shape of the Neo... Another reason to square off the bottom is to make it stand up on a flat surface or MORE IMPORTANTLY, sit upright in an off-the-shelf bluetooth mini keyboard. You should not be restricted to landscape mode useage when off device keyboarding. Remember, were not just talking about a PHONE here, but portable microcomputing.
