The opkg.org repository has some issues so don't rely on it too much.

PDU Decoding

2009-05-22 Thread KaZeR

Hello list,

I've been facing an issue since a few days : i can't access my messagebook
under shr :

After some tests it seems to be related to an encoded sms which isn't well
handled by FSO. I've open a bug on their tracker
(http://trac.freesmartphone.org/ticket/439), but i'd like to be able to
decode the messages i have in PDU mode, so that i can 1) isolate the right
one and report it for the issue to be fixed and 2) be able to answer my 1
week old messages (i can access the messagebook using mickeyterm and
AT+CMGL).

I've tried various pdu decoder i found on the net (mainly python-based) but
none has succedeed (i've tried several of my messages).

Can anyone help me decoding thoses messages?

Thanks in advance.

Re: [shr] feature request - power

2009-05-22 Thread Leonardo de Virgilio
I'm totally agree: a more simple on/off (big) button should be more:

- quick
- stable during moving/walking
- power-safing

Yes, sliding buttons are cool, but not really functional using Neo as daily
phone.

2009/5/22 William Kenworthy bi...@iinet.net.au

I think the point is that sliders suck:

 1. they are very hard to use - unless you have fingers as thin as a
stylus. Especially the ones that go close to the screen edge.
 2. They are impossible to use whilst walking.
 4. They take too long to operate - seem to use a lot of processing as
they hang for a few seconds part way until the display settles.

Basicly, sliders are inappropriate for digital (on/off) values - thats
 what radio buttons are for.

And yes I would love to have the time to figure out how the opaque mess
that is e works so I can fix these HCI disasters, at least for
 myself ...

Good to hear!

Why not join to irc.freenode.net #paroli ?

Im in the middle of redesign the default gui

I also created some graphics too. So if you/he want to help

we can talk about it. (how can he try the new gui, how it like, etc).

Or the other possibility is to design a completely new look,

Im focusing on the default look right now. I expect to release it

[SHR] A7 alsa state

2009-05-22 Thread David Garabana Barro
Hi, everyone

I have recently got my Neo buuzfixed.

Based on #2121 [1] I have tried two alsa states:

- [2] gsmhandset.state.new (supposed to be the correct one): I got echo and the
voice heard on the other side is very distorted
- [3] gsmhandset-a7.state: I got good sound, no echo at all, but volume is
lower than gsmhandset.state.new (but higher than before buzzfix, of course)

Starting with gsmhandset.state.new I have lowered 'Mic2 Capture Volume' to 0,
and that way, I have no echo, and voice is crisper and louder than -a7.

Does someone has the same problems?
Is it possible to let Mic2 gain on 3 and control echo with any stronger AT
command?

Sure. :-) Well, since I don't use debian - I don't remember to create deb

Anyway, since this will be my only second effort - please help me test the

Hi Arne,

I tried some time ago to use FSO DBUS with QT-4.5, as i'm a new comer
to qt, i've learned the basics with their online doc[1] and
tutorials[2] and did googling a lot! Then i took a look at telepathy
as a serious QT/DBUS real-life example.

I tried to use their (telepathy) dbus proxy generator, but finally i
gave up more by lack of time. The FSO XML specs has to be enhanced to
ease the work of the generator...
Anyway i will have to go back to this in few month as we will use FSO
DBUS interface likely with QT in some incoming project within my company.

If you find anything interesting about QT/DBUS/FSO, please share it!

Have fun!
Chris

Re: Om2009 testing release 4

2009-05-22 Thread Ben Wong
Thanks for the update. Unfortunately Om2009 is still not a usable
phone out of the box for me. I realize that this is probably my fault
for not persevering, but I will be reverting to SHR since this is my
only phone.

Here are my issues, in order of importance:

1) Horrible audio distortion during calls. People tell me that I
sound like I'm being played back over a blown-out speaker. I tried
calling +1800GOOG411 (google's speech recognition phone directory) and
it was unable to understand me. I bet this is something tweakable
with the ALSA settings, but I'm surprised that Om2009t4 gets the
default wrong when SHR-testing works fine. I don't know if it's
relevant but I have an A6 model of the Freerunner.

2) There should be immediate feedback during all operations.

2a) When searching for a GSM signal, the Paroli interface is presented
but frozen and there is no notification which is quite frustrating.
Even just the simple word searching... would have helped.

2b) The suspend button should blink the LED immediately when waking up
or suspending. Two seconds is too long to wait for feedback that a
button has been pressed.

2c) From the contacts menu, when clicking on a phone number, a call is
made but there is no visual indication of this until the Dialer
program appears. The number should at least light up when clicked.

2d) There is too much latency between pressing the AUX button during a
call and any indication that the system is working on changing the
volume. Ideally, what I'd like the GUI to show me is not what the
current volume is, but what it will be once it has finished processing
all the button presses.

2e) When ending a call, pressing END CALL does light up the button,
but then it unlights before the call is actually ended making one
think it needs to be pressed again. I suggest changing the text to
ENDING after the button has been pressed.

3) There is no way to reset Paroli if it gets wedged. At one point,
it refused to allow me to make a call because it thought there was
already one in progress. Not only was there not one, but the Dialer
program didn't have the red END CALL button so I had no recourse but
to reboot.

I should mention that there are many things that I rather like about
Om2009t4. I hope you find my comments constructive. I look forward
to trying the next release of Om2009.

P.S. A quick message on interface design from Douglas Adams: It's
the wild colour scheme that freaks me, said Zaphod whose love affair
with this ship had lasted almost three minutes into the flight, Every
time you try to operate one of these weird black controls that are
labelled in black on a black background, a little black light lights
up black to let you know you've done it. What is this? Some kind of
galactic hyperhearse? The walls of the swaying cabin were also black,
the ceiling was black, the seats -- which were rudimentary since the
only important trip this ship was designed for was supposed to be
unmanned -- were black, the control panel was black, the instruments
were black, the little screws that held them in place were black, the
thin tufted nylon floor covering was black, and when they had lifted
up a corner of it they had discovered that the foam underlay also was
black. Perhaps whoever designed it had eyes that responded to
different wavelengths, offered Trillian. Or didn't have much
imagination, muttered Arthur. Perhaps, said Marvin, he was feeling
very depressed.
