Anyway big thanks to those who did it. Navit was the most lacking app
 for me on QtMoko.

I have ported it - it was quite easy. It does not use X server. I uses qt
painter that is drawing to framebuffer as all other qtmoko apps.

A really big thanks for this. Navit seems much more reactive on qtmoko
than on SHR.

But, the topic seems to need some more work for a better integration.
When I start navit, nothing occurs on GPS device part: nor power on,
nor GPSd launch. Did I missed something? Currently I imagine the
following solutions:
- use a script shell wrapper around navit to activate device, start
gpsd and fire navit (and undo all these when navit terminate)
- insert some specific code in navit for qtmoko, like NeronGPS does
(directly power on or off from code via
/sys/devices/platform/gta02-pm-gps.0/power_on)

This topic brings me an other question: what design for GPS related
tools? Raw device (like NeronGPS) or GPSd (like currently
pre-configured navit-qtmoko)?

Note: I'm still using qtMoko v35.

About two weeks ago, my GTA02 stopped sending SMS messages. I was
running QtMoko v35 at the time, on a Kingston uSD card. Running dmesg
while trying to send messages revealed this error:

 [ 4171.93] mmc0:0001: error -110 reading SDIO_CCCR_INTx

Thinking that my uSD card had failed (I'd had it for just over a year),
I bought another one (A-Ram), set up a fresh install of QtMoko, upgraded
to v37, tried to send another message, and see the same error in dmesg.

At this point I'm assuming it's not a fault of the uSD card. Is it
hardware? There doesn't seem to be any problem writing to the uSD
card... On fail of sending message, the message is moved into Drafts,
which works nicely. Is it a problem with my SIM card? It's only about 5
 months old.

Are there any other logs I can look at to find out what's happening? Is
this something I can fix in the software, or should I just get another
phone for use until the GTA04 is released?

Hi, have you tried running QtMoko from NAND? You can try various Settings-
Logging-Categories and check /var/log/messages if something interesting
shows up.

I think you can configure gpsd to automatically run script which is executed

FR UMTS

2011-12-18 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hello,

For my netbook I use an USB stick to connect via UMTS to
Internet; ATI2 says about itself:

Manufacturer: huawei
Model: E1750
Revision: 11.126.08.01.00

The FreeBSD u3g driver presents it as a device /dev/cuaU0.0 and one can
chat to it with AT cmds or do PPP. Works for years now as it should.

Before buying an USB interface changer from the USB-big to USB-small,
will the (SHR) Linux kernel in the FR, bring up a serial device too?

Thanks

Replicant for GTA04? (Was WebOS for GTA04?)

2011-12-18 Thread Denis 'GNUtoo' Carikli
After HP announced to open source WebOS I wonder
what we need to get it onto a GTA04 device?

And is there already a clear picture how completely
the source will be opened? Under which licence?
And which limitations? Which timeframe?

Questions over questions... Let's discuss answers...
Why not porting Replicant to it too?

Replicant is a fully free android version:
 * The non-free low level libraries are replaced by free equivalents
 * The market is replaced by FDroid

When I was involved in it we freed some devices like the htc dream and the
nexus one but we then realized that the devices themselves were the problem:
The modem in theses device had too much power(it controlled the sound card,
the GPS and could read/write on RAM of the main CPU).

So then the current main developer ported the nexus S to it which is way
better:
* The audio codec is attached to the main CPU
* the GPS is attached to the main CPU
* The modem can't read/write the RAM of the main CPU and cannot read/write the
NAND either
however it suffer from a proprietary and partially signed bootloader.

The GTA04 has none of theses freedom problems...

Denis.

This probably won't be too helpful since I'm not using ubifs but I've
experienced a couple of kernel panics recently. Albeit with far less
verbose results than yours, perhaps ubifs is more verbose(?), but I get
similar results as in not being able to mount the FS; jffs2 on
NAND(qtmoko v31) and ext3 on sd(AoF Froyo [ran sd card build]).

I blame that particular sd card for the AoF failure since it's the
original that shipped with the phone and this isn't the first time it's
given me trouble. I was at least able to backup what was left of the
data after attempting to repair the FS. It booted afterwards but too
much was missing to make it usable.

It's been quite frustrating dealing with the NAND failure as I loved
that install (~1yr old) and spent quite a bit of time tweaking it. So
far I can't figure out a way to copy what's left of the data I haven't
backed up. Even after using the latest dfu-util, compiled from source,
uploading from the phone to another machine is *sigh* still broken.

Using neocon via the U-boot prompt hasn't been too much help either
(great tool though). There apparently are bad blocks on NAND but only 4
if I recall correctly. I copied that session to another box so I can't
share the info from it right now. Perhaps you might fare better
checking your NAND partitions.

Actually my problem started long time ago.

Yes there is a lot of room for multiple OS ports for the GTA04.

A good starting point could also be the Rowboat project

On this list I find e.g. Android 4.0 for BeagleBoard XM.

As usual the best way could be to mix both...

 Hi,

please wait some time for new version, there are some major changes, that
make current release not compatible. I'm working on coastlines generation
and it seems to be a little complicated.

Is there some public repository where we can see the development and
send patches against?

Do you have any estimate when new version will be finished or do you
have patch for older version to support newer gpsd-2.96? There is few
API changes:
