Getting a 3D fix is taking over 20 minutes on average using the built-in GPS antenna. When using an external GPS antenna, the issue goes away and an unaided GPS cold start can be achieved in about 41 to 44 seconds. I suspect that the use of unshielded cabling between the GTA02 is a likely cause. Being in the Avionics business, I am familiar with the use of shielded twisted pair wiring, but generally in large 22AWG (will have to figure out where to source very thin STP cabling). The wires we use to perform this mod is solid core, probably 30 AWG. In avionics, when it is desired to keep a signal from radiating outside a cable (such as Headphone/Microphone wiring), then the shield of only a single side of the cable is terminated to a good grounding point. When instead it is desired that the signal inside a cable be protected from EMI/RFI from the outside, then the shields on both sides of the cable will be terminated to ground We are usually trying to refrain from connecting shileding to ground on both sides as a prevention of grounding loop. . I theorize that only the SCL/SDA would need to be shielded (together in a shielded twisted pair cable ?), Power and Ground may not need to be shielded. We have never twisted two differnet signals together. What about cross-talks? The only type of signal we are twisting together are for example positive and negative leg of RS422 bus. Or A429 (you may be familliar with). This issue seems very similar to the SD Card access/GPS issue of the earlier GTA02s, so I also wonder if a capacitor fix should be looked at in this case as well. -Pascal http://www.wi-flight.net/ Zbynek ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

These problems can be hopefully fixed when we can use FSO. It would be nice if someone could fix this also in qtopiacomm. * As usual it is not possible to write SMS with the integrated keyboard as it misses many characters (non-English locale). I prepared months ago an ugly patch for this but could never test it as I always fail to compile QtMoko (configure requires days, some stuff (such as Qt) is build without need, ...). Maybe it's now easier using the Debian packages but I really doubt that I will try it again, maybe with the new GTA04. I am quite sure some people had luck and compiled it. I think best way is according to this: https://github.com/radekp/qtmoko/blob/master/README I can cross compile or even compile natively. My last QtMoko installation died some days after the installation (v31 or v32) with an ubifs related error. Is there anything known about this or should I expect it again? We had problems with ubifs too. Gennady talked to ubifs devs and they would like to see the kernel message and nandump so they could try too look into it. It seems that ubifs is not as stable as jffs2 which was 100% perfect. Only problem is that jffs2 cant do mmap and apt-get does not work without mmap. Jffs2 will never do mmap (according to the main devel it's a lot of complex work because of compression) so we have these options now: * live with bugged ubifs * patch apt-get so that it works without mmap * use the old trick with /var/cache/apt on tmpfs, but this has problems with limited memory and bigger upates/upgrades might not work * use some other flash filesystem - yaffs seems but does not support compression, i havent looked at logfs yet So any suggestions? Most of the effort was to package everything with debian package system. This should be done now except for kernel which is on the list for next release. For installing qtmoko with apt there is new line now in /etc/apt/sources.list: deb http://qtmoko.sourceforge.net/debian/ / Applications and themes are right now not in that repo. They can be installed from web browser from url below [4]. Applications are put in categories, they have tags and screenshots for easy searching and navigation. Please let me know if you have ideas or patches for improving this. The application web is generated from .xml files with xsltproc and bash scripts so it should be quite easy to change look or improve it. Btw .deb packages for most of the apps are still building right now so please be patient - i will upload them as soon as the build is finished. Applications in this version can be still installed with old qtopia package system, but i am going to disable this for next release if new packaging will be ok for you. My plan for next version is to fix regression if you find any, package properly also kernel and release it as stable. Plans for future is FSO framework in qtmoko. I'm going to write more about this soon, with the scope pictures included (taken by my camera, I don't have DSO at home :-/ ) That would be interesting to see, but your summary seems wrong or perhaps oversimplified. Distortion is inevitable if you overload an amp, and oscillation isn't unusual immediately after overload. It isn't a function of the overall path gain though. The wolfson has a chain of amps and volume controls, and it only needs overload at one of them to introduce distortion. Stick the gain too high on the first stage (mic input) and the distortion won't go away no matter how far you turn down the gain on later stages. This has been a long standing problem with the default volume settings. Yes, it is oversimplified. It is obvious that you can't fix distortion by lowering the gain of next-in-chain amplifier. You are just controlling the volume of already distorted signal. I put that picture from my scope with a short description to my web page, here: http://hnet.endofinternet.net/elektro/Freerunner/ALSA/sound_setting.html I was very surprised how LOW I had to set the audio controls to get rid of distortion: Mic2: 0 Sidetone: 1 Strange ... You can do this in the kernel parameters in /boot/append or in QI just press the power button after the second flash of the aux button Hrabosh: I pressed the power button (a have v31 on the NAND memory, thus not able to use /boot/append because Qi is not reading UBI FS .. right?) and saw kernel messages scrolling down the screen- simmilar to what I can see when my Linux computer is booting. USB device (ethernet mode) works fine. If i switch the phone to USB host mode (by running the script in dev tools), message in kernel log appears: [131.66] s3c2410: changing USB to host [131.90] hub 1-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 2 - last line is repeated cca 10 times. Ethernet mode is then not working (unless I run USB device mode from dev tools), but FR is charging the battery if plugged to the computer/charger. Devices, connected to FR's USB port, are not working and seem not to be powered at all. 3/ Where am I to copy MP3 files to make MediaPlayer see them? I copied them to /media/card/Documents/audio/mpeg and /home/root/Documents/audio/mpeg but still didn't see in MP. QMplayer was able to find them on first scan, but only if there were no further directories in /home/root/Documents/audio/mpeg. Is there a way how to tell these programs where are my MP3s stored? Go to software packages and download the mp3 codec, then execute the file that shows up in applications. Suddenly media player will read mp3s in ~/Documents (qtmokos ~/ which is /home/root not the debian /root) Hrabosh: It works! Thanks! But media player seems not to be able to play music fluently when phone is in use (reading SMS, using Arora... ) - QMplayer is playing fluently no matter what you do with the phone. 4/ Does anyone know how to set FreeRunner to play music over bluetooth audio stream? AFAIR it is called A2DP. Radio in my car is able to play such stream so I'd like to use it. You can add debian unstabled repos and see if there is anything there, I would be very surprised if not... Hrabosh: There was such option in some player I had in SHR distribution. You could choose whether to play using spekares or BT headset. I'll try to google something more ... 5/ I'm going to replace 2.5 audio socket in FR by 3.5 socket - so I could connect my headphones directly to FR. Did anyone try so? Please document if you do this! I've lost the second earphones I got for this (kindly given to me by my friend Brolin) and it's a real pain to find 2.5mm headphones here. Hrabosh: OK, I'll let you know. 7/ Can I use MP3 files as ringtones? Yes, see my re to 3 8/ Can I install ipk packages to QtMoko? Not the ones built for SHR qtmokos got every debian package so something should do what you're looking for. 9/ People I call with are complaining about bad sound quality. Re: QtMoko v31
Well done ! As to the keyboard: I really appreciate having arrow keys there (because of command history in Terminal). If you hit the very left key in the second row, another keys (end,home,arrows..) shows up - but the same keys ale already in the default keyboard, so now they are present twice. What about replacing these by F1-F10 keys? BTW ... I§m the only one having difficulties using USB host mode in v31? Zb. Sylvain Paré píše v Pá 31. 12. 2010 v 12:58 +0100: Thanks to every one behind this! Happy new year too! Sylvain 2010/12/30 Radek Polak pson...@seznam.cz Hi, new stable qtmoko release v31 is now out. You can download images for SD card and NAND flash from sourceforge [1] and sources from github [2]. QtMoko is distribution for Freerunner based on debian rootfs and qtopia phone stack and GUI. For more info please see [3] and [4]. Changes since previous version: - fixed invisible call button in finximod theme (Joif) - translated to French (Gregoire Juge) - updated Danish translation (Ole Carlsen) - better layout in docked keyboard - commented completion strip in docked keyboard - VT not switch to graphics which fixes X hang in VT_WAITACTIVE (Gennady+Me) - fix QX crash after pause/resume - using openssh-server instead of dropbear again This is first stable release based on kernel 2.6.34. I think nearly all regressions to andy-tracking 2.6.29 are fixed so i will tag last commit with 2.6.29 support and will merge 2.6.34 support in master. Docked keyboard (the one suitable for terminal) is now much better. It has same layout as in SHR, which means you will have cursor keys on main screen. The completion strip was IMO quite useless and wasted only space so it's now disabled. As for the VT fix (or hack ;-) it's now possible to use any X server with QX. So you can install full xserver and use it instead of Xglamo which is default. So happy new year! Good evening to everyone
Hello guys, I got my FreeRunner few weeks ago and since that I'm having fun discovering it :-) I had been trying OM, SHR, Debian, Android, QtMoko and decided to stay with Qtmoko. I have v26,v30 and now v31 installed on several uSD cards (v31 is in NAND memory). Although QtMoko seems quite usable for Freerunner, there are still some points where I'd like to ask you for help. But I'm already using FR with QtMoko as my primary phone and its doing well :-) 1/ USB Host is not working in v30, v31 (in v26 is). Dmesg says unable to enumerate device. I was trying to connect USB flash drive, BT dongle and USBtoRS232 converter (With PL2??something chip) - all these were working on v26. 2/ GPRS is working on v30 and v31, great job !! Did anyone try so? 6/ IS there a way how to enter Czech letters using FR keyboard ? ... at least in Navit? Street names in Navit are using czech letters and I'm not able to enter their names without having such letters on the keyboard. 7/ Can I use MP3 files as ringtones? 8/ Can I install ipk packages to QtMoko? 9/ People I call with are complaining about bad sound quality.
