is already in the opkg conf file icluded!

I did that and the way I understand it, I should be able to boot by
selecting the SD card without having a FAT partition on it!
Namely:

Having a OM2008.9 jffs on FR, I did run 'install.sh all'. I did shutdown the
device and when rebooted I choose the SD card to boot. That should do the
trick!

I think the wiki isn't very clear in that point. That was also the reason
asking that question in the list!

How other people did perform the debian installation? I shouldn't be the
only one following that wiki!

Re: [debian] installation

2008-12-12 Thread Tony Berth
indeed in the first partition is a uImage.bin file, but doesn't boot! It
claims that can't find that uImage.bin! When I do fdsk on the card, both
partions are Linux formatted. I don't think that I have to hae the first one
in FAT!

Thanks

tried to install debian, followed http://wiki.debian.org/DebianOnFreeRunner,
but when booted from the SD card I get an error cause it can't find

Postal service in general is A PROBLEM! I have bad experience with the
German, the French and the Dutch Post! Once (in Germany!) it took them 3
weeks to find the package (not an Openmoko one!). Finally I got it but ...
what a trouble!

microsSD doesn't mount any more!

2008-12-05 Thread Tony Berth
Dear Group,

I know that this topic isn't new to that list but after spending a lot of
time searching the archives, I decided to re-initiate it cause didn't find a
solution and got rather confused :(

I recently installed a new Transcend microSD 8GB card and FR did recognize
it without any problem! I then tried debian on FR, and the card was
partitioned accordingly! After that, needed the card for soemthing else, did
re-partition it on a debian box (fdisk, mkfs) and when I re-inserted in FR
it doesn't get recognised any more!

When in BootLoader, shows that there is a card of 3MB and when I boot
with the latest 2008.9 jffs I get following dmesg output:

[ 30.365000] Buffer I/O error on device mmcblk0, logical block 8
[ 34.83] FAT: bogus logical sector size 65535
[ 34.83] VFS: Can't find a valid FAT filesystem on dev mmcblk0.
[ 34.84] FAT: bogus logical sector size 65535
[ 34.84] VFS: Can't find a valid FAT filesystem on dev mmcblk0.

I know that other people had similar or exactly the same problem but
couldn't figure out if they found a solution to that.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

is that the solution and how can I add that module?

In the meantime I did the following:

I re-installed the previous kernel (Om2008.9-gta02-20080916.uImage.bin) and
I was able to establish USB networking. Does this mean that the
current/latest kernel is rather 'dodgy'? Am I the only one experiencing that
problem?

is not a distro? But following:

http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/FDOM_-_a_Fat_and_Dirty_OM_based_distribution

claims that this is a distro!

I just installed the 2008.9 kernel and the latest FDOM jffs2 as in:

http://files.tdobson.net/openmoko/freerunner/fdom/Fat_and_Dirty_OM.200809_20081023.rootfs.jffs2

I just checked and the 2008.9 is no longer available! About 2 weeks ago I
downloaded from:

http://downloads.openmoko.org/releases/Om2008.9/

a file named:

Om2008.9.uImage.bin

I think this is due to that recent license issue?

2008.9 repositories

2008-11-07 Thread Tony Berth
Dear Group,

I'm not very clear which repository I should use when having the 2008.9
image installed. The current opkg conf files point to the 2008.8 repository
and when I try to upgrade nothing occurs. Probably everything is alredy up
to date!

On the other hand, I tried to install minimo. Followed the stpes as
described in:
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Getting_Started_with_your_Neo_FreeRunner but
got following error:

--

 Installing minimo (1:0.02+cvs20070626-r0) to root...
Collected errors:
 * ERROR: Cannot satisfy the following dependencies for minimo:
 *  libfreetype6 (>= 2.3.6) *  libxt6 (>= 1.0.5) *

---

these requested versions can be found either in 'testing' or 'unstable'
repositories! Which one is advisable to use?

In some e-mails in that list, I saw people were referring to the 'testing'
one and would like to verify before doing so.

Thanks for your help

Cheers

Tony

Indeed that was the problem. 'allow-hotplug' instead of 'auto' is the
solution! PLEASE correct the WIKI asap!

Thanks for your prompt support

USB Networking

2008-11-05 Thread Tony Berth
Dear group,

I just installed (following the wiki) 2008.9 on my FR and tried to connect
from a debian box. Applied the following:

---
 Debian, Ubuntu and others

Edit /etc/network/interfaces and add:

auto usb0
iface usb0 inet static
address 192.168.0.200
netmask 255.255.255.0
network 192.168.0.0
up iptables -A POSTROUTING -t nat -j MASQUERADE -s 192.168.0.0/24 &
up echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward &
up iptables -P FORWARD ACCEPT &
down iptables -D POSTROUTING -t nat -j MASQUERADE -s 192.168.0.0/24 &
---

as mentioned in: http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/USB_Networking

After re-booting the debian box and connected my FR via USB, ifconfig -a shows:

---
usb0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 9A:99:92:BD:1A:34
  BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
  RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
  RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
---

and ping to 192.168.0.202 returns nothing!

Your help is much appreciated!

Thanks

Tony
