OK, I tried reading thru T.D. 9375 from the link, but it is heavy
reading. Could someone who is concerned about these changes, explain
which items bother them and why? I.e., in what way would my tax return
be made public without my consent?

[CGUYS] Webhosting options?

2008-02-20 Thread Randall
I have 3 domain names through Go Daddy and have begun to set up 2 of the free,
basic websites that come with the purchase of the domain name. Have found it a
pretty user-unfriendly experience so far and takes forever to load, though may
be having slow loading problems beyond this site. At last Saturdays PC
Computer Users meeting someone from this list (whose name I will keep
confidential) heard me ask about webhosting alternatives and came up and
suggested Bluehost. I checked it out and it seems to be better than Go Daddy,
though you have to pay a fair amount up front rather than on a monthly basis as
Go Daddy lets you. Also, I now get a free, albeit very basic, minimal site (5
pages) with the domain name. I'm tempted to try Bluehost but just wondering if
anyone else has had experience with it and in comparison with Go Daddy, or any
other sites. BlueHost appears less expensive than the one Tom once
recommended, A1A or something like that.

Also, my current site gives me 1 GB bandwidth, so wondering if this might have
to do with the slow loading speed. I can upgrade to a better deal on Go Daddy
but it would be a little more than BlueHost and looks like you would still get
less. And am I write in thinking, after playing around with site awhile, that
I'll probably need or want more than 50 MB of disk space?

Thanks,

Randall

I googled a few times with varying keywords, all containing at least 'tax
return made public'. The only article I could find on it is the one David
got his link from. The site is a far left one...which of course isn't to
say it's wrong but it's odd that the philly article they site doesn't exist
it seems. Something this big you'd think would have other stories on the
web. Perhaps someone else can find more info.

Re: [CGUYS] gmail inbox

2008-02-20 Thread John DeCarlo
I guess I wasn't clear.

I meant that if you use a filter today with your mail client, it moves the
message out of the Inbox and into a message folder, say the CGUYS folder.

You can make it seem like the exact same thing in Gmail by setting up a
filter to put a label of CGUYS on the messages and take off the Inbox
label. Now it isn't showing up in your Inbox, only under the CGUYS label.

And yes, if you simply take off the Inbox label, you can't easily browse
through the list of messages. You then have to search to find it.

Re: [CGUYS] Do Not Call Lists

2008-02-20 Thread MrMike6by9
I meant to add. Many of those services that use these 800's numbers appear
to be using "boiler rooms" from which multiple numbers are dialed
simulatanously. You will often pick up and hear nothing since another line
answered first and that "child of God" spilled his/her spam on that
unfortunate person before he got your call. Call backs to these
numbers often go to a non-working number or to a line that says it cannot
accept incoming calls. How about that?

You can find out about a lot of this by reading the comments people post at
"whocalled.us" and at "800notes.com". A couple of weeks back, for example, I
got a call from "123-456-7890" according to the caller id. Sheesh!

Re: [CGUYS] Stopping shortcuts from being automatically added to the start menu

2008-02-20 Thread Michael S. Altus
I think you're seeing WinXP being helpful. In particular, the "Start menu
contains shortcuts to the programs you use most often." To change the number
of
shortcuts displayed, try this:
1. Right-click on the "start" button and select Properties.
2. Select the "Start Menu" tab.
3. Assuming the (not Classic) Start Menu button is selected, click Customize.
4. Under Programs, try lowering the number to 0. Then OK your way out.

I thought that I had tried this and it didn't work. For example, I had the
number at 0 and would open Adobe Reader, not already on the start menu. Then
I'd
open Adobe Reader and find it on the start menu. I'll try again, and thanks.
