The newest ipods have talking menus and will even speak the song title. [CGUYS] Copying a tree of folders without the files enclosed in those folders
Is there a process for copying a tree of folders without copying the files that are in those folders? I have a 2008 folder containing a large tree of folders with 2008 data in various categories. I want to create a 2009 folder (easily done), and then copy the folder tree, without data files, from the 2008 folder to the 2009 folder. Yes, I can copy everything (wasteful), but then the process of deleting all of the data files from the destination tree is a tedious one (unless, perhaps, there is an automated process for doing that, but only as a last resort). Depending on the amount of data, you could create a zip archive of the tree, whack the files within the archive, then explode into the new location. Re: [CGUYS] Good Time to Buy Zunes
That's a two year old review comparing the now Classic iPod with essentially the same Zune of today. The points in favor of a iPod still hold for the touch screen version, aside from the issues over screen size (iPod wins) and scroll wheel (now moot). Also, I believe that the Zune can be used with the Mac via Songbird. Re: [CGUYS] MP3 Player for the Visually Handicapped?
As a person who works with individuals with disabilities, I feel that I should weigh in on this. It is important to find out works for the person. Different things work for different people. So as far as a portable MP3 player goes, I'd recommend taking her to a store where she could try different types of them. That way she could tell you what controls she likes and which one she dislikes. If she has a computer she can access the MP3 files through something like Media Player (for windows) or iTunes (for Windows or Mac). What is important if she is using a computer to use the Accessibility Options (in Windows control panel) or the Universal Access (in Mac's System Preferences) both of these can be used to change the size and contrast of the items on the screen. Mac also has a built in screen reader. (I have not used it, so I don't know how good it is.) Windows does not have built in screen reader, however two very good third party screen readers are out there for Windows machines (JAWS and Window-Eyes). They are both rather expensive. I have a client who is blind and accesses a computer using JAWS. He often goes to an Old Time Radio site and listens via his Windows Media Player. I realize this is more of a general answer, but as I stated earlier different things work for different people. If I can be of any help, feel free to contact me off list.
