Re: [CGUYS] generic laser printer cartridges?
Usually has to do with quality of rebuilds and parts changed/refurbished. Plus quality of toner, and if they leak. Some of the cheaper ones have a tendency to leak which will gunk up the interior. A good quality refurb/generic will be not cause problems. But Canon cannot guarantee the quality of a refurb/generic so they will not guarantee the life of the printer with those in it. I have not bought a printer cartridge from Dell since we bought it over three years ago. I have been using refurbs/generic from a number of sources. The ones from LD are refurbs. Which means they get used carts. Strip them down and rebuild them. Not just refill. This gives you much better life and use. Stewart At 04:55 PM 1/9/2010, you wrote: *He uses the OEM toner catridges? Re: [CGUYS] generic laser printer cartridges?
Would be hard to prove it. Secondly with the short warranties on these things you are usually just past the warranty when you change out your first toner. When we got ours I got extended warranty plus ordered a hi yield cart. The first one lasted about 6 mos. The hi yields last about 9-10 mos. Nothing was ever said when we had to swap ours out twice with the toner carts. Matter of fact they want you to take it out before you ship the old one back. The only guarantee the OEM toners give you is that it will work with your machine. Same one the generic folks give you. Like I said with both of the ones I mentioned they will ship you out a replacement for any bad one you get. No questions asked. My caveat with any generic seller, check out their reviews with someone. Some of these companies sell junk. Also you want rebuilds at a bare minimum. Not refills. Rebuilds replace wearable parts. Your printer will be obsolete and unsupported by then-current software long before it actually dies. Or they just won't sell toner cartridges for it any more because the market is too small. (for home / home office use) We are getting more and more paperless as time goes bye. You obviously have never dealt with the clientele I deal with. If we could install two flat screens I would be able to print less. Folks not interested. They want printed material in front of them. Churches (smaller ones less than 200+ membership) will be the last bastions of printed material. Our church body just published (within the last two years) a new printed hymnal. A lot of us questioned the usefulness of publishing an expensive and useless piece of material when they could have pushed all of it to use electronically. Instead they want us to pay thousands for the new hymnal and then if we want electronic one spends Hundreds more!!! Institutions do not always follow technological trends, and tend to be quite behind the times. Re: [CGUYS] generic laser printer cartridges?
In some places they are getting that way. In some areas local churches are branch offices/satellite buildings of a big main campus. The sermon etc. is broadcast there. I have done Bible Studies using nothing but power point etc. Within my faith group however that will not be the case as we do not believe in hands off ministry or worship etc. There are certain aspects of our doctrine that requires a live body to be present and do things. Don't need tablets for worship, many places have large screens mounted up front and they work well. My buildings architecture dictates against those. That is why I said two large screen LCD panels. 50 panels mounted properly one on each side would cover 100% of the congregation. (My church is a round church, so we sit in an arc.) Easier seen as far as I am concerned. Also larger print for those with eye site problems. We are probably talking about 5K easily and, well (this is my church) the folks tend to be skin flints especially about technology. I keep a lot of my resources on my work laptop so this is technologically possible. (Bibles, study notes dictionaries, etc.) Stewart At 08:04 PM 1/9/2010, you wrote: *Do you ever see the day when each person coming to a service will be handed an Apple tablet, with all the prayers, hymns, etc. on them? [CGUYS] generic laser printer cartridges?
Time (already, after 8 months of fairly light use) to replace black and white toner cartridge for Canon 4-in-1 laser printer. Regular cartridge runs around $80. I see there are compatible generic cartridges for as low as around $25. Questions are: a) are these likely to work (had bad experiences with generic ink jet cartridges which didn't work at all with Dell ink jet) b) are they likely to work, but work less well as far as quantity and/or quality and c) are they likely to damage the printer and reduce its life, as Canon's literature suggests? Re: [CGUYS] generic laser printer cartridges?
Quality and life of them varies by vendor. I have had some give me all they can give and last just as long as OEM. I have had others that last half as long. Quality of cartridge is varied also. They are generally recycled OEM cartridges recycled by a company. The quality of the recycling is key. Some just refill. Others clean, strip and redo the cartridge. I like to stick to two vendors for my generic laser cartridges and ink catridges. LD Products and Inksmiles www.ldproducts.com (have a couple of alternate sites, but still the main one.) www.inksmile.com Our church collects empty cartridges and sends them in to empties for cash which is tied in with inksmiles.
