Re: [CGUYS] Silly but important question...

2009-03-21 Thread Marcio
Oops... I changed the computers... Was able to reinstall the Favorites, have
connected Excell and Word with the D: Data drive. Will struggle now with the
addresses in Palm and the Splash ID Data. What a pain. To make my week end more
stressful (fun?), Windows XP Home is not allowing me to enter as
administrator... I have not much experience with Windows Home (I used to have
Professional). I can predict hours in the computer and troubles with the wife...

Disappointed that now I have 4 giga memory, a very good mother board and I keep
still having the sign that I am not having enough resources... Very
disappointed...

Thank you you all! Any help is appreciated.

The Firefox, Mozilla, SeaMonkey bookmarks are stored in a file:
bookmarks.html.

There are several of them, and the important one to back up is the largest one.
It's the one that opens in the browser when you Manage Bookmarks in Mozilla

I am not sure why we make this stuff all so hard.

For Friefox etc. I find the Bookmark.html file and copy it to a memory stick.

I then copy it to the new computer and stick it where it is supposed to go.

When I start the program it finds the file and it has my bookmarks.

For IE I go to the favorites directory and copy it to a memory stick
and again copy them to the new system in the favorites location there
and when Is tart up IE it finds all my books marks.

Works for me!

Do a search for it, and make sure the results are set to tell you details.

If I remember correctly you are moving from an older version to XP.

Also do a search for Bookmark.html it should find it for you.

Usually the firefox/mozilla ones are in the working directory of the

If you are running XP, it should be C:\ Documents and
Settings\username\Favorites. For Vista, it's C:\Users\username\Favorites.
(Actually, in Vista you can just type Favorites in the Windows Explorer
address bar--I don't remember if this works in XP.)

Or you can use one of the other methods that were mentioned in the replies. It
might be easiest to use Import and Export (under the File menu) in Internet
Explorer. You would export Favorites (as a file) from your old system and then
import the file on your new system.

You do not need to screw with manually saving your favorites. Just get
any bookmark synchronizer like the freeware Foxmarks

automatically sync'ed among all your devices, be it a new computer or

I am changing computers. Finally will retire my old Compaq. I like to
save the Favorites file to use it in the IE in the new computer.
Where do I find the file to save it? How to install in the new IE?
 Many, many thanks

Favorites isn't a file, it's a folder. Look for it under your user folder
(same place as My Documents). Just transfer its contents to the Favorites
folder on your new system.

If you are running XP the files are found under C:\ Documents and
Settings\username\Favorites. Copy the folder to a USB thumb drive or
whatever media suits your fancy. Next (no matter what Windows OS you are
running) open IE and use keystrokes ALT F then I and follow the
prompts to import the files from whatever media you saved it to.

You can also export them into an interchange format. Details vary between
different versions.
