There is no radeon kernel. Sleep is an ongoing problem in these
machines. I can try to make another pass at the power management if you
folks want to test another kernel. As far as acceleration, when I had a
TiBook in house, the installer correctly setup accelerated video on it.
The only thing lacking was glx, I believe.

I have the last beta of 8.2 and I was wondering if anyone knew the best way
of updating my install without downloading and burning the ISO's. The only
crux is that while i have a good connection, it isn't on the machine with
Mandrake. So, basically i want to download the updated rpms and copy them
over and then install them. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated,
thanks :)

Network boot problems

2002-04-02 Thread Kener, Andy

Hullo.

I am using a powerbook g4 500 titanium and I'm trying to install 8.2rc2. My
problem is a non-working cd-rom. As such is the case, I am attempting to do
a network boot and install, using dhcpd and tftp. I followed the

assigned an ip address via the dhcp server. My server is a celeron 300

anyone has any suggestions or knows what I am doing wrong, plz let me know.

I'm not so sure the TiBooks can netboot like documented there. I tried
the borrowed one here, and something has changed in OF that the method I
use for the iMac and Powerbook no longer work. I believe Ben gave it a
whirl a while back on his too, with little success.

a) Fix the cdrom.
b) Make a partition on the machine put all the first stage stuff on it.
Reboot into open firmware (Cmd+Option+O+F). boot hd:X,\\:tbxi where X
is your partition number that you put the stuff on. (It needs to be a
HFS partition too). From there you ought to be able to start an FTP
install.

At any rate I haven't tested this but theoretically it should work.

Well there aren't any floppy images made for ppc. Stew might be able to
tell you what to do to make them. However, the real question is will
open firmware let you boot off a floppy.

ok, i feel that I may need to clarify. or maybe not. My dvd-rom drive on

so i can't mix and match. also, i do NOT mind blowing away macos, don't

I meant to do all that from MacOS. You need to prep free drive space
anyway, or Linux will wipe out MacOS.

Your CD is just broken? At a mimimum you need to get a kernel and stage1
in a position to load up, via yaboot or whatever. You might be able to do
this from an hfs partition and OF:

 Make an hfs partition.
Put the contents of /boot of the CD on it. (ftp from another machine?)
Boot from OF using boot hd:X,\\:yaboot (X=partition number you created)

Haven't tried this, but in theory it should work.
