Re: [courier-users] Curious Permissions Error
Michael writes: [snip] A463 NO Access denied for SELECT/EXAMINE on INBOX.Sent Items (ACL r required) Of course, when I check the user, I find that their permissions are fine. And what exactly did you check? I'll explain in a second. You do realize that this diagnostic refers to IMAP ACLs. Yes, I do. Which is why this is so weird. It's funny, one of those errors just got thrown right when I started to reply. I checked the user immediately: - Error gets thrown A201 NO Access denied for SELECT/EXAMINE on INBOX.Sent Items (ACL r required) - I check the courierimapacl file in Maildir/.Sent Items [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/Accounts/d.sub/m.sub/361143.macnt# cat .Sent\ Items/courierimapacl user=postmaster aceilrstwx owner aceilrstwx Of course, I do the following and it works fine: a1 login dmstevens3331 her password! A1 OK LOGIN Ok. A2 SELECT INBOX.Sent Items * FLAGS (NoAttachment \Draft \Answered \Flagged \Deleted \Seen \Recent) * OK [PERMANENTFLAGS (NoAttachment \* \Draft \Answered \Flagged \Deleted \Seen)] Limited * 5 EXISTS * 0 RECENT * OK [UIDVALIDITY 981705] Ok * OK [MYRIGHTS acdilrsw] ACL A2 OK [READ-WRITE] Ok Hmm... The user, basically, messed up the ACLs on the Sent folder, and is paying the price for it. While this is possible, the errors are getting thrown from the web servers and the user can't change their ACLs from the web server. Now, it's completely possible that the user is say, opening up their account using Outlook Express, changing the ACLs, logging into the website, throwing this ACL, then changing the ACLs back before I can react fast enough to connect via VPN, log into the server, find that user's maildir, and check the ACL filebut I doubt it. David Gomillion wrote: If these two offices interact a lot, it might make sense to look into using a VPN tunnel. Besides the security, the VPN devices will abstract all of the hops and retain your original IP. Then, as long as SOME data is flowing, your ADSL router should keep the connection open. Our T1 routers have the built-in VPN tunneling, as well as little Linksys boxes we use on xDSL and cable connections. They seem to work pretty well, and we have the added security of tunneling everything. It makes our Wide Area Network much cheaper than the days of frame relay to everywhere. That would also fix the MAXPERIP issue you're seeing... May I plug OpenVPN here? Snap to setup, works like a charm and it's ping facility can keep firewalls open. Re: [courier-users] Re: Thunderbird - courier-IMAP interaction problems
Im between two Borderware firewalls myself. But another thing then: what is the option about that one can set in Thunderbird which is called Use IDLE command if the server supports it? Courier supports it, but this won't help you infact worse. If you want it to send more packets down to get client to poll for messages disable IDLE in client. [courier-users] Mailing list with Courier and authmysql
Hi all,i'm having a problem with Courier 0.44 with authmysql.Everything works fine with pop3, imap and esmtp but now i've had to stopworking with mail server because of a problem defining a mailing list ...Here's the scenario ...I've changed the MYSQL_SELECT_CLAUSE to fit my need (creating virtualdomains), now i want to create an alias "sample" which must betranslated into "| /usr/bin/mailing-list sample" but nothing seems towork ...makealiases creates ".courier-:xalias" in configuration dir, there's a[EMAIL PROTECTED] file inside. But sending a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] will result in "User Unknown"error, i'm not able to understand what's going wrong with maildelivery to mailing-list.pl program ...Thanks a lot ...DAvide

[courier-users] courier-imap nonresponsive to BC Select Inbox - what to do?
Hello, I've been a happy user of courier-imap for several years now - first on Debian, now on Ubuntu. I'm running the latest Ubuntu packaging of courier-imap which is reported as 3.0.8-3ubuntu1. I have (or, had) about 1100 messages in my Inbox. One day recently, imap simply stopped working. I was unable to view my inbox via Thunderbird or pine. I tried a telnet sessoin to debug (see listing below). It locked up on the BC Select Inbox and I had to kill telnet. Restarting imap did not help. I've tried emptying out my new and cur directories of my Maildir. Any suggestions what to try next? I miss my email! [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ telnet localhost 143 Trying 127.0.0.1...
