[Coworking] Re: looking for software to administer and book desk in a coworking location

2011-09-07 Thread Alexander Lang
hi dominik,

for managing desks/coworking spaces there is http://cobot.me
(commercial, i created it) and there is nadine (http://
wiki.coworking.info/w/page/31359618/NadineProject, open source). cobot
is more polished and can do more things, free support and an API.
nadine on the other hand allows you to customize anything you want if
you are willing to put in some programming effort.

for finding/booking desks there are:
* http://deskwanted.com
* http://loosecubes.com
* http://liquidspace.com

and a few others.

cheers,
alex

[Coworking] Re: Member Management Program

2011-04-11 Thread Alexander Lang
Hi Felena,

here's a link to cobot: http://cobot.me (disclaimer: I work at cobot).

From what I have seen Mindbody is more about booking appointments/
classes than it is about managing a coworking space. Their target
group are gyms and yoga studios. While there certainly are overlapping
areas between gyms and coworking spaces, in the long term Mindbody
won't be able to offer you the same level of specialization as cobot
does. Feel free to try us out :)

[Coworking] Re: Management Software

2011-04-05 Thread Alexander Lang
just to make the list complete, there's also http://cobot.me, which is
not open source but a saas. it handles payments/invoicing, attendance
tracking, member management, booking of resources and much more.
(disclaimer: i work on it).

we have thought about open sourcing at least parts of it, but haven't
found too much value in doing that. you can't really save any money by
setting it up on your own box (need to pay an admin + hosting). the
only upside would be that you could completely customize it (given the
programming resources) and you wouldn't depend on a 3rd party anymore.
then again we have an API, and with a saas solution you get free
updates and support, which is especially important with non-trivial
software like that.

cheers,
alex

coworking centers use something that's more enterprise level (like a
Cisco system or something)? We're at 2400 square feet.

 2. Scheduling - we have a couple of conf. rooms that can be
scheduled. I've seen some several coworking centers using Wufoo or
Genbook.com but was wondering if someone was actually really happy
with a system for scheduling conf. rooms for members and for
scheduling hot desk spaces for drop ins?

 3. Payment systems - Simply billing through PayPal is what we're
thinking today, but is there something better? We'd use PayPal
virtual terminal if someone wants to use their card to pay that day,
in the office, but again, we're wondering if there's something that
people are really happy with that we're missing.

That's what's top of mind today... What else should we be considering
 from an operations perspective?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

 hi everyone,

for those of you you've never heard of it: cobot is a web based software i
developed that helps you run a coworking space. it does membership
management, collects payments, allows people to book resources and other
things as well (in short: it does a lot of the time consuming management
 work for you).

9 months into development we're now at a stage where we need to decide where
to go next. for that we really need some more input from the coworking
spaces. we want to know what your pain points are, how your spaces work etc.

the way it works is that i have set up a small landing page
(https://www.cobot.me/help_us) where you can enter your email. i will then
contact you to schedule an interview over skype or phone.

i would really appreciate if some of you would take the time to talk to us.
it will only take 15 minutes. the more input i get the better i can make
cobot to support your work as coworking space managers.

 cheers,
 alex

I was wondering if people would be interested in creating an
individual quick 30 second or less description of why they enjoy
coworking. The goal is to edit the video togethers so we can use the
video as promotional material on our sites. This will help show the
global movement of coworking and help describe the benefits of
coworking from different perspectives.I would gladly clip these clips
together and make the raw material available in the Google Files for
the group so people with a true skill in video editing may improve on
 it later.

If you speak a foreign language it would be helpful if you could add
captions. This will also give a neat international flavor.

Let me know what you think.

Hi Shaun,

what you're doing sounds great. To make your life as a prospective coworking
space manager easier you might want to check out http://cobot.me (disclaimer: i
wrote it - first for my own coworking space, now we're offering it to everyone).

There seems to be a lack of coworking facilities in Glasgow, and
hopefully our project will help towards filling this gap. Any advice

Re: [Coworking] Interested in learning more about coworking

2010-09-21 Thread Alexander Lang
Hi Ron,

any specific questions? in our space we've had a lot of students who were
working on their thesis on coworking handing out surveys. Maybe you want to set
up a survey on the web (?)

Alex

coworking for a while now and it seems like a really interesting
idea. Particularly one of the reoccuring themes to come out of these
discussions is that people feel more creative when they are working
around other people (even if they are not working on the same stuff).
Additionally, it seems that people who cowork, love it. I want to
show that when people work alone, they are less creative than with
other people and coworking groups seem like a perfect sample. If
anyone is interested in helping me learn more about coworking that
 would be greatly appreciated.

 Thank you,

Re: [Coworking] Coworking IRC Channel

The German coworking scene uses a public skype chat - it's not ideal but it

at wiki.coworking.com and have been keeping an eye on the channel on
irc.freenode.net. I'm excited to see IRC isn't dead. Let's talk coworking!

[Coworking] Numbers published

2010-09-05 Thread Alexander Lang
Hi list,

sorry to spam you again with another blog post, but once again I think
this might be interesting. I have blogged our development of
coworkers, revenue and attendance: http://co-up.de/2010/09/05/annual-report.html

I'm hoping others will do that, too. I'm not aware of any spaces who
have published their numbers - if there are any please let me know.

Alex

[Coworking] hi there

2010-05-13 Thread Alexander Lang
Hi list,

I'm Alex from Germany (but currently living in Sweden).

I run a coworking space called co.up (http://co-up.de) in Berlin and
spamI'm also the creator of a website that helps coworking space
owners to manage their space: http://cobot.me /spam.

I earn my living mainly with programming, but am hoping to make
coworking and other things play a bigger role in that in the future.

I hope I can share some of my knowledge and experience as a space
owner here (and maybe also spread the word on cobot a little bit :) )

Cheers,
Alex
