What is your experience with SVG images, good, bad ? Is is the only 
format that will scale vector images beautifully.

I'm not one to judge a person's design sense.

I gathered the tiles are not part of the background. It still will be 
a problem to get those background images to work in a responsive 
design unless you swap them at certain breakpoints or stretch them .
