-Caveat Lector- Excellent information Dave, thank you. Have you read Suppressed Inventions Other Discoveries by Jonathan Eisen? A very good book which covers suppressed cancer treatments (amongst other things) and documents the appalling harrassment and persecution handed out to some doctors/researchers/philanthropists who try to make these treatments available to the people suffering from cancer. Re: [CTRL] Alternative medicine
-Caveat Lector- One of the interesting things I was reading in a medical article was that for most common diseases for which people seek a cure(not ebola or aids or such like), the placebo effect accounts for about 30% of the cuarive effect. when the companies measue an effect, they meaure the difference between the old medicine and the placebo effect. Hence if the placebo effect is 30% and the old is say 35 % if the new medicine is 40% curative , they talk about the drug being twice as effective. However I speak under correction as this is not my field of knowledge. As an aside I listened once to a prof at medicine talking with a naturopath about the Hays diet. He called it nonsense but admitted that it had never been tested in controlled experiments. The drug companies had no incentive to investigate and the work had never been done. John (and'm not on the hays diet either) -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 28 September 1999 10:04 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [CTRL] Alternative medicine -Caveat Lector- I suspect there is no money (profit) in botanicals or homeopathic preparations for llarge firms.
