so far GM foods have not proved to be INHERENTLY harmful, i.e. harmful in
all possible cases. People who dont want a particular type of treatment dont
have to have it, but they shouldn't deny it to others.

debilitating and deadly diseases

one of the few positive uses for a govt. IS funding helpful science.

It is a battle between rational science, and religious dogma.

Drug companies do not like cures unless they have the cure. Drug
companies have made most of their money in the past by treating chronic
conditions, not curing disease.

Private companies do not make their results available to their competitors so
their reseach usually serves their profit motives, not necessarily the best way
for science to progress in the most efficient manner.

These are separate issues and should not be confused with embryonic stem
cell research.

It is a bit more complex than just "Christian Extremists."

The 'Christian extremists' are the main group opposing embryonic stem cell
research.

I guess it depends on the reason for the research.

Correction: There is *potentially* plenty of fetal stem cell
tissue, much more
than the 60 lines Bush is limiting the research to. The problem is
that in order
to create stem cells from fetal tissue the fetus has to be
destroyed. Of course
most are destroyed anyway unless they are implanted into a woman's
womb
or kept frozen forever. But that does not make it right according
to the
Christian extremists, and unfortunatly they have an inordinate

-Caveat Lector-

Adult stem cells are not as promising as the stem cells derived from the
fetus. Federal funding helps advance science. Eventually more lines will be
added when results are forthcoming and we the people demand that
religious influence over our goverment to the detriment of science must stop.

Why are some against progress especially when it can help so many *living*
people? What is wrong with sacrificing a few frozen cells in order to help so
many who are much more developed and actually have a brain?
