Re: [cwelug] Designing a rack system layout

2010-05-06 Thread N Moon
Depending scope, the big boy is Rackwise http://www.rackwise.com/

Both Dell and HP have incorporated online configuration tools. The draw back
with them is that they're specific to they're proprietary product lines ie. all
Dell devices in a Dell supplied rack, likewise for HP.

Bently Nevada made the 3500 Rack Configuration Software -CAD based

RackTools http://www.racktools.com/ is not Visio dependent, and a free
download. This is from Middle Atlantic Products, a rack manufacturer. Other
manufacturers have similar tools. BR Enclosures' Ausrack ID is an online tool

Many of these tools offer electric load and thermal planning features that
beyond what Visio can do.

I hope this helps.

Yup, Visio is a pretty nice app.

What's funny is that many years ago I used to do CAD (yikes! Years is
turning into decades.) I recall creating specialized tools/objects
within the CAD environment that were unique to specific projects. In
this case I don't really want a full CAD environment, but some kind of
CAD-like application with the special-purpose tools/objects for
servers in a rack.

Should be recycled. Lithium is still toxic, though different from Cadmium.

Could probably take it to any cell-phone dealer, including Radio
Shack, or to the hazardous waste site (whose address I don't have
handy). Also check with ByteWorks and the group they send stuff to
(whose name escapes me at the moment). They're supposed to be licensed
recyclers.

[cwelug] Re: Contact the FCC for rural broadband!!!

2008-11-03 Thread N Moon

I'm not sure how broadband implimented (with encryption) over the lower VHF
spectrum would effect devices like wireless mics. Those mics are usually analog
and would be more easily effected by current TV signals.

Does this take into consideration other existing users of that space, such
as wireless microphone users? Lots of users out there with investments that
are small compared to a broadcaster, but large compared to most individuals.

 Dear Friends:

The TV broadcasters are mounting a furious campaign to block the FCC
vote next week on unlicensed use of the white spaces spectrum to
 solve the rural broadband problem.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!! If the broadcasters succeed in blocking the FCC
vote, now scheduled for Nov. 4, this issue is kicked to the new FCC
under a new administration -- and the process starts all over again!

The broadcasters have delayed this rulemaking for almost SIX YEARS!
We can't let them delay a rural broadband solution any longer!

The FCC's engineers reviewed the wireless technology and recommended
approval for unlicensed use of the white spaces for rural broadband.
This is not rocket science. The following link, for those of you
with a technical bent, amply shows the how cautious the FCC
 was in its technical review.
 http://main.nc.us/whitespaces/files/good-enough-for-the-pentagon.pdf

This isn't about technology. It's about the broadcasters protecting
their turf -- our public airwaves.

Since 1934, radio and TV broadcasters have had free use of the
public airwaves. And now that we, the public, want to use our own
airwaves to solve the rural broadband problem, the broadcasters go
 ballistic!

These huge broadcast companies are the creation of Wall Street, and
the same corruption and greed that we have seen with the financial
meltdown is furiously at work today on Capitol Hill.

Please email and call each Commissioner of the FCC below. Thank
them for their due diligence, and request that they NOT cave-in to
the broadcasters' political muscle. LET THE FCC VOTE!! Please
 email and call.
