[cwelug] computer adventures

I have recently completed two projects.
Upgrade of my mac system: I needed a computer that would take the new mac os. I 
bought a used mac pro 5.1 . It took all of my old hard drives and everything 
seems to work.
I bought a broken 3 year old hp chromebook for $50. the sad drive was bad. I 
replaced it with a 64 gb ssd drive for $35. I reinstalled the default chrome os 
and installed gallium os. this allowed me to dual boot. i like the modified 
version of umbutu that gallium uses. i particularly like being able to print 
without going through cloud print. gallium is as fast as chrome. Thomas Kirk

modified debian dist. i do the install and then the initial screen doesn't come 
up. i have tried to follw the directions on the website and utune. nothing

[cwelug] Charter price increase

My charter internet jut went up by $13 a month because my contract expired. I 
can change to a different billing and save $3 and use their modem. Any

[cwelug] chromos in virtualbox

I was able to save an image and use the .ovf file to load  the image in osx.
So I was able to use the same image on three machines.
The chrome os seems to require 1024 meg of memory to run properly. I will
bring a copy of the image with me to the meeting tomorrow.  Thomas Kirk

I just ran netflix player on a OS X 10.5 box running parralls with xp. The
machine is a quad core with 8 gigs of ram. The VM is using 2 cores and 4

I'm not sure if this has any relation to your problem, but: I have  
noticed that my dsl service seems to chock down when my son is using  
skype. In fact it caused my daughter to be kicked off her online class  
when he was using it. Is it possible to use another port so that my

I downloaded the trail version of parallels for mac ver 4.0. It installed
without a problem on osx 10.5.8. i installed win xp pro sp2 and upgraded to
sp3 without any problems. I now have a canidate for my version of wp office

Scott: I would check it with a live version of ubuntu or knoppix to  
see if the network connection will work. When I have had this problem  
in the past, it is because a virus  disabled part of the windows ini

Why don't you try a different router. I looks like the router is not  
negotiating with the modem for your ip address properly.
