I would suggest starting with XFree86-bin, since this contains all the
libraries, right? Once the libraries are released, other people can
start compiling XFree86 packages for 1.5.x (or their own X apps). The
actual apps can come along piecemeal after that, I think.

 I don't think X apps compiled with 1.5.1 against the old 1.3.x X
 libraries will work.

But, I am not a Cygwin expert (IANACE), so hopefully others on this list
 will correct me if needed.

I Am Not A Cygwin Expert? That's a new one of the OLOCA...

Aaah yes. If the XFree86 packages use other packages' libraries then you will
have to wait until they are updated before updating the XFree86 packages.

I created a cygwindb and gave you full access to it. Hopefully I did this
correctly. I'm not exactly a mysql expert.

Cool. Thanks.

Also, is it cool to commit (under) package-maint?

The only way to get things into the cygwin web page is to commit, so you
have to 'cvs add' package-maint and start checking things in. Don't manipulate
 the web pages directly.

Yeah, that's what I meant by commit (in the cygwin[/htdocs] repo).

Sorry about the mistake. I just wanted to tie the thread started here,

 the main list.

I do understand that problem reports go to the main list, even for apps.

Actually, now that I've generated a fix for the problem, as it turns
out, this *is* an issue for cygwin-apps.

Fixing the problem requires generating a new DLL with a new export --
fdopen64. If there are any packages built which use fdopen they could
conceivably fail in the same manner as patch. Sigh.

This means that we may have to go through the rebuild packages exercise
again for cygwin 1.5.1. I will release a 1.5.1 version of cygwin shortly
 after generating a snapshot.

I'll also rebuild patch, in Corinna's absence, fwiw.

Sigh.

David, I am very glad that you took the time to track this problem down.
If I had stuck with my original plan and let Corinna deal with it when she
got back, then there is a possibility that more packages would have been
ported and more people would conceivably have to duplicate some effort.

Very good catch David!

This talk of adhering the FHS made me remember Chuck's proposal for an

in ~ftp/pub/cygwin .

Chris raised some concerns about the cygwin mailing list filling up with lot's
of musings about the 'unsupported' packages, but I think there's a way we can
have an unsupported range of packages without the noise: integrate these
'unsupported' offerings with the Software list on the cygwin home page.

Any thoughts?

I'm still working on understing how you are handling the 64 bit exports,
   but that's my problem.

newlib provides _fdopen and _fdopen64. winsup/cygwin/Makefile.in
adds an indirect reference to libcygwin.a that redirects fdopen to
_fdopen64. Ditto for other 64 bit exports. Search for
 OBSOLETE_FUNCTIONS and NEW_FUNCTIONS in winsup/cygwin/Makefile.in.

In the meantime, if we want to apply your newlib
patch locally, how are you planning to export fdopen64() and
fdopen64_r() from cygwin.din? Are the any further modifications needed
to the winsup/cygwin source to support your implimentation?

I have made the necessary changes in winsup/cygwin in my CVS copy
after applying the newlib patch from Chris. I can post the patches
to this list if that's an appropriate thing to do. Chris?

It's in CVS, so a `cvs up' will pick up the patch.

You can confirm this by doing a default installation,

  zlib-1.1.4-1 (for example).

 Can you confirm this:
 delete your setup.log and setup.log.full.
run with the latest snapshot, and then post:
 your setup.log
 setup.log.full
the setup.ini's that setup placed in the directory cache with the
 mistmatched tarballs..

I've been downloading 'src' packages for (nearly) all test packages that have
been released and haven't come accross this (with latest stable setup) version
mismatch. Just for clarity, I tried with the latest snapshot (2.364) too, and
I get the same behaviour...it works as it should.

ccdoc is now part of the Cygwin net release

2003-07-20 Thread Elfyn McBratney
Hi Joe,

I wasn't too sure whether you are or still are watching the cygwin-apps mailing
list, so I'm mailing you directly just in case.

I uploaded ccdoc to the Cygwin mirror system (11th July) and it's now available
via setup.exe . If you're still interested in maintaining it for us, could you
send an announcement for it to cygwin-announce? If you don't have the time or are
under some other time restrictions I'll see if myself or someone else can pick
it up.

Regards,
Elfyn

This is how many, if not most, standard Windows installers do this, along with
 things like Read README etc.

I like the idea. The Create icons page is the final step, the goodbye, last

one will do.

Well, you can cross these off your list...

 bzip2 + libbz2_1
 gdbm + libgdbm-devel, libgdbm3

Note that the following do not have any compiled portions, and are
 therefore ready for 1.5.0

 autoconf
 automake
 libtool
 autoconf-devel
 automake-devel
 keychain

BTW, I think you *should* include the lower namespaces. Even though some
will NOT be ported to 1.5.0. For instance, libbz2_0 contains
/usr/bin/cygbz21.0.dll. But, cygbz21.0.dll is provided only for
backwards compatibility for any programs that might be around to use it.
However, there is no import library for it.

Therefore, any NEWly compiled apps that link against -lbz2 will use
/usr/lib/libbz2.dll.a which points to cygbz2_1.dll. Thus, I updated
 cygbz2_1.dll (libbz2_1 package) but not cygbz21.0.dll (libbz2_0 package).

So, there are really five classes of packages:

 1) already recompiled for 1.5.0
 2) non-binary
 3) binary, but not for new use (e.g. could be recompiled, but why?)
 4) empty compatibility packages (newlib-man, texmf?)
 5) need to be recompiled 1.5.0

Of these 5 classes, only those packages in #5 need anything done.
 Everything else is fine.

 So, for instance,
   ncurses ncurses-demo libncurses7 libncurses-devel
 are all #1's. But
   libncurses6 libncurses5
 are both #3's.

And, base-files is #2, while cvs is #5.

Here's my first cut at a list. I know I've probably miscategorized some
things, but I tried to err on the side of putting stuff into #5
(recompile me now!) -- but we want #5 to get real small :-)

Thanks for doing this Chuck! I didn't have the time to traul through release/
but now you've done the leg work... :-)

the regex package entirely from the distro. There's no package in the

the regex package provided a shared lib was pretty small.

I was thinking the same thing. Now's a perfect time to depreciate packages we

OK, can you re-create the tarballs without the options you stated and send me an

Jari,

I've reviewed cabextract; following are some observations:

  1) The source package has the build script named `cygbuild.sh', but as source
packages are extracted by setup to /usr/src , this might get overwritten.
Please rename the script to something like `package-ver-rel.sh'.

Also, when I envoked the script as `./cygbuild.sh all' but got the
 following

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] tmp]$ ./cygbuild.sh all
 -- cygbuild.sh 1.134 http://tierra.dyndns.org:81/cygwin/cygbuild/
-- Wait, reading and preparing variables based on current directory
./cygbuild.sh.DefineGlobalsRoot: [ERROR] Cannot determine VERSION from
/home/elfyn/tmp.
./cygbuild.sh.DefineGlobalsRoot: [ERROR] Are you inside directory package-NN.NN/ ?
 ./cygbuild.sh.SrcDirCheck: [FATAL] dir is empty

 Can you fix that?

OK, it was merely one point. :-) Apart from that it works well and builds OOTB
(by hand). So, once the above is fixed it's ready to be uploaded.

I've given naim a lengthy review. It works very well on freenode :-)

So, it works, the packaging is OK par one minor nit: the setup.hint* file lists
Communication as one of the categories; which doesn't exist. I think Net Web
will suffice.

Apart from that, it's ready to go.. I just need one more vote.

*I'll fix this when I upload it, but you might want to change your Makefile.

OK, I've been reviewing jgraph. I tried out the examples, they all worked,

Got the announce written up, went to verify the install procedure and ran
into a problem. If I run setup, http://mirrors.rcn.net/ mirror, go to Net,
and install naim, it downloads the .tar.bz2, makes like it's installing,
then exits with a message: Nothing needed to be installed. None of the files
in the package seem to appear in /usr/bin, /usr/doc/Cygwin, or elsewhere. If
 I cd / and manually
 tar -jxvf .../release/naim/naim-0.11.5.9.cyg11-1.tar.bz2
it does appear to install successfully, so I'm not sure what might be up. I
have tried deltree'ing C:\cygwin\ and reinstalling from scratch, just in
case I had broken something in my own install, but no dice.

OK, I have an incling that this is because of the package file names. I've
renamed the files, to see if setup will grok them.

If I can I'll run upset, too.

Hmmm...

  naim-0.11.5.9.cyg11-1.tar.bz2

these cause a problem like this?

OK, I have an incling that this is because of the package file names. I've

It's not the names. That didn't seem right, and testing confirmed - same
failure mode when the version number is changed to 0.11.5-1 in file names
 and setup.ini.

Nothing else looks odd with the package files, either.

I'll see if I can add some extra logging to the relevant place in setup.

Well that worked.

  naim-0.11.5.9{.,-}cyg11-1.tar.bz2
  naim-0.11.5.9{.,-}cyg11-1-src.tar.bz2

mirrors.rcn.net updated at 21:52 (GMT) and it's looking fine.

 Hi,

I've sent an announcement for jgraph a while ago, and it's in the
cygwin-announce archives, but it didn't seem to get through to the cygwin

 cygwin-announce)?

Igor,

I replied to the moderation mail and action'ed it accordingly. Don't know why it
wasn't gated, though.

I'll see if I can see, excuse pun, anything...

No substantive changes from 1.1.4-1, simply recompiled against

 Enjoy.

I will upload your many, many, many... packages in a few. :-)

Yes, I believe so. Can't find the thread, though..
