there is an option in dt to make local copies, copy locally, of the group
you wish to edit and then copy the xmp file back to the original drive,
resync local copy, which would "greatly" aleviate your slowness.

Re: [darktable-user] import process / workflow

2019-07-20 Thread I. Ivanov

smb is slow and you have quite a large collection being imported. I would
*guess* that dt has not had time to generate the previews yet.

perhaps a better plan would have been to download the images to the smb
drive or via nfs/sshfs first and then to import to dt. but that would
probably still have been much slower than a local drive.

I had considerable issues with DT files stored on USB connected to a
router (make believe server) and shared using SMB (took forever to
import and work).

Oddly enough - if I am to copy the images back and forth using Nautilus
or command line - it would work much faster.

Few months ago I changed the firmware to an open source one and gained
access to NFS shares on the router. Since then - the speed have
increased significantly. I mean specifically when DT r/w from the router.

Few days ago I copied more than 10k directly to the USB (connected to
the router and shared over NFS). I am currently working out of it
directly - on a 8 year old laptop and the speed is okay. I mean - the
bottle neck is not any more the router. If you are on synology - you
*should* be able to have NFS share. For me - the experience with DT
reading images over NFS is much better comparing to the one over SMB.
You may be able  to improve r/w performance on SMB with forcing
different mounting options like smb version but none of it was very
reliable for me.

That was unnecessary. I was asking a question and then answered your
question.

It might in the future investigate the possibility to contribute to the
code.

Serious? And you expect every user to install a PostgreSQL database
server? AFAIK, there is no embedded PostgreSQL server. And last, this
is probably not an SQLite database issue but a bug in the way the
collect module used to record the boolean operations. If this is the
bug I'm talking about a simple delete of darktablerc would have been
sufficient.

I deleted the database again and did the import again. This time I was a
bit more patient - I only imported one year at a time.

Now the default behaviour is back. I do not trust SQLite.

Is there any hope that we would be able to use PostgreSQL in the future -
a proper database?

If the filter you are using is selected as a bookmark - try deleting the
bookmark and select manually. If it works - make a new bookmark.

No. The same happens when I choose "All" or even no star. Then it
changes the collection according to the star rating but the filter in the
left panel is ignored.

[darktable-user] Collect images not working as expected

2019-07-20 Thread Johann Spies
Something went wrong. Since yesterday my filters when using "collect
images" stopped giving the correct result.

As an example: this screenshot >

I took two photo's today (2019:07:20) and imported it. I only could get to
it when I used the date (2006) to get to the imported photo's. Although it
shows in the left pane that there are only two photos in this film roll it
shows 43908 thumbnails.

I initially thought that was as the result of a corrupted database. So I
moved my library.db to another name and reimported all the photo's again
last night. No change in the behaviour.

What is going on?
