[darktable-user] Missing Preferences icon.

Hello All,
I've had this issue previously, and did a quick search for info on it, which
turned up Redmine issue 11953, but I can't get there to as my browsers tell me
the site is not secure...probably a lapsed certificate.
Any advice on whether there is a trick to making that icon visible?

So, the "secret sauce" might be:
- first thing is you need to duplicate one of the presets you want to base
your new module layout on. eg. If you want to use the "scene-referred"
preset as your starting point, select "manage presets" from the preset menu
next to the module group icons, and this will pop up a "manage module
layouts" window. On the left, find the preset you want to copy, and click
on the "copy" icon next to its name. Trying to edit a built-in preset is no
bueno. You can also just create a new empty preset if you want to start
from scratch.
- on the right, towards the top, click on the "+" sign next to the heading
"module groups". This will add a new module group on the far right (you may
need to scroll over to the right to see the new group).
- click on the icon to set a "star", and change the name to "favorites".
Use the "<" next to the module group name to move it over to the left if
you want.
- add whatever modules you like to the new group by clicking on the "+"
sign below the new module group, and you'll get a complete list of all
modules that can be added.

You now have a "favorites" module group. But I would question why you would
really want to do this. Just put your favorite modules under the other
groups, so that they are sorted into some sensible logical order. Favorites
was only interesting what the module groups were fixed and couldn't be
edited, it was a way to add modules to the interface without having to go
search for them.

I think this new feature might be a good topic for one of Bruce's videos :-)

do not "rename" a module group, create a new one.  And populate it with
what you desire by adding modules to it, rather than trying to "move"
modules from one group to another.  You are making something simple,
difficult.

It's because the favorites tab is made redundant having the ability to
fully customise your groups. if for some reason you want a favorites tab,
then no worries, just create a module group called "favourites" (you can
even use a "star" icon for it, like we used to have), and assign whatever
favourite modules you want to your new custom favourites group.

I am still finding problems in establishing a 'custom' module layout now

approach and some apparent problems that have resulted.


a. I started with a 'scene referred' module set and then deleted all 
modules that I would not generally use. That module grouping was then saved.


b. Then I opened an image and turned on the most common modules and 
saved each 'on' module as a named preset.


c. Then I was able to see my module selection correctly shown in the 
'active module' column.


d. Next I saved all of the active modules (with check marks) in a new style.

My hope was that this style would place only my common modules (in the 
correct order) in the active column for other images. To my surprise 
modules from other groups not only appeared but were turned on. For 
instance filmic-rgb and base-curve were both showing as being active!!


I do understand that this is under development but I wonder if others 
are having similar problems and have found a way around the difficulties.
