Re: [darktable-user] Setting up darktable newly from scratch
Hallo Peter, a new setup and a new import will take long time and maybe the result is nearly the same as before because database and xmp-files "should have" the same content. But you will loose your preferences, styles, preview-cache, ... > some things were .. not copyed You can use "preferences / storage / look for updated xmp files on startup" to synchronize the database with the xmp's. Changes on pictures, done with a second system (laptop/desktop) will be imported. Switch to "on", restart darktable, switch "off" after sync for a quicker start. > a lot of unnecessary things have accumulated in the database. Have a look at "history stack" / "compress history". This will delete all iterations and attempts and reduce the stack to the final result. (This compression will not happen with a re-import.) To clean up you can manually delete unused styles or unused tags (assigned to 0 pictures). Re: [darktable-user] Setting up darktable newly from scratch
Ciao Peter, I am really curious about this but cannot understand what kind of "unnecessary things" can clutter the database. Can you be more precise? [darktable-user] Setting up darktable newly from scratch
Hello everybody I am with darktable since three years, in this time a lot of unnecessary things have accumulated in the database. For this reason I am thinking about setting up the program completely new an I think the new darktable 4.0 woul be a good time to do this.. My data are on a external ssd drive. Of course I woul make a saving of these data before deleting the existing application. I am aware, that I would have to import all the pictures again, now my questions: * Is this a good idea? * As the xmp files are also stored on the external drive with the files, do they automatically fit in the new import? * Do I have to delete the config and cache folders manually? * Off course I can then only import, what I want to have in the new setup. * Does anyone have a recommenation?
