Re: [darktable-user] input color profile

2019-04-25 Thread Jean-Luc CECCOLI
Hello,

I could get an explanation to my problem, and I felt very confused.
When starting using my D4s, I did not create any profile for it, used a neutral
basecurve instead.
Then updated to DT 2.6 *and* in the same time created the profile the (I
thought) same way I did for the D700 some years ago (see
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1nS3URVSYA=youtu.be).
Well, in fact, it was not identical : ViewNX had become ViewNX-i, and the
profile generated was not RGB but (how could I have known it ?) ycbcr, which dt
does not handle.
At this point, 2 possibilities for me :
1- use the same profile as for the D700,
2- create a specific profile for the D4s, using one of the multiple tutorials
on the subject (for instance :
https://pixls.us/articles/profiling-a-camera-with-darktable-chart/).

You should be able to workaround the issue by shortening the name of the icc
profile. If this does not work for you then you face a different issue and need
to file a separate regression report.

Exactly, those extracted Nikon camera profiles

I have been using those with my D300-images for some years now, but since the
DT2.6 updates they are not recognized/used, alltough I see them in the input
color profile's picklist

I use the 'old- darktable'-snap which handles the profiles as it should...

What can be a solution?

Just put the icc files in $HOME/.config/darktable/color/in/ directory
(create it if not exists).

Restart dt and they should appear ine the "input color profile" module.

Cheers.

There's also a base curve based on the default E-PL6 output, as a
dtstyle. You may want to try that, too, in combination with either
my color profiles or the standard ones.

Using these profiles with any substantial base curve gives rather
strong saturation, so I also usually auto-apply the color
correction module with saturation set to something like 0.85, for
something pretty close to out-of-camera rendering.

I used the method outlined here to create the profiles:

Good luck!

The following links give some insight into how a lighting-independent (within
reason) color profile is prepared:

[darktable-user] Input color profile

2016-08-17 Thread ternaryd
Hi,

I was just wondering how an input profile for a
camera works in darktable.

If I understood right, an ICC profile also
includes the white point, but the lighting
conditions can yield a different white point,
and darktable allows me to change that. Does
this mean, I would need a different profile for
each lighting condition?

Aren't the base curves as distributed with
darktable basically like a profile? What white
point do they assume? If they yield a maximum
intensity per color channel, some white point
is implied, right?

Thanks,

note that our input colour profile module has a `BGR linear infrared'
profile for this purpose (so you can work on your swapped channels
early on in the pipe, channel mixer comes in quite late).
