[datameet] Suggestions required regarding Web Based Editable GIS system

2018-10-09 Thread Naraina aka Dilip Damle
Hello to everyone,

I have a requirement where a small, single town level GIS system consisting
of only Vector features is being developed.

The Data creation will be done offline on a local computer.

After the GIS data is ready it needs to be hosted on Web based server where
1) It can be viewed by Only Authorised users. One a desktop based computer
as well as a handheld device with GPS capability.

2) It should be possible to edit the Attribute data of the features
remotely and save/independently export to a change log file or something
similar.

3) Creating/Deleting features or Features Geometry is not Important / May
not be needed. But good to have.

What are the suggestions for a Opensource/ Economical Paid Servers capable
of doing this

I looked at MapGuide https://mapguide.osgeo.org/

and

https://mapserver.org/introduction.html

Would like to hear from Anyone having experience with these or other
technologies.

Thanks in advance

Dilip Damle

Hi,

population is available at village/ Ward level from Census of India

You could also use the various sources for the polygons of villages. Since
there are more than one search on this group.

Group search works fine.

There are many posts already about Village Boundaries and the entire set
For 2001 and 2011 is available from Columbia University which is also

Hi,

have a look at this http://gaia.geosci.unc.edu/rivers/

It does not have names but it has Width and Depth data which is more
valuable. IMO

You can find the names Yourself by superimposing on Google Earth or
something.

[datameet] Re: Sharing : Census 1991 _Village/Town Level PCA Data

2018-08-30 Thread Naraina aka Dilip Damle
Hi sumit,

I did download the data and have it with me.

I rechecked your link again

It is the same file I have.

But in the data you shared the 1991 data is not at Village / Town
level.

The data I have shared now is at the village/town level.

HI,

The PCA 2001 and 2011 are available in STATA format and there is a link
somewhere on this group.
I have got it from there.

I am not sure but it may be in the Group repository. Please check.

Hello,

I think The Census 1991 PCA ... Primary Census Abstract data was not
available in a collated form anywhere.

hence started working on this and have created combined files in csv format
using Data downloaded from Census website.

Hers is the copy of the readme file that accompanies the data.

==
Reademe file for Census_1991_PCA Village/Town level data

Source : Census of India Website : Digital Library

Compiled by : Naraina Damle AKA Dilip Damle email : cadvis...@gmail.com

Files Included : 4

All_India.csv
All_states.csv
PCA_URBAN.csv
PCA_Rural.csv

Process done
The individual files were downloaded and cleaned for missing Codes/ Names
etc. and combined.
The Total population was checked and verified at all the levels

Changes done to data :

1. The state codes in individual files did not match the All India and
state level file. Changed them according to all india.
2. Some states do not have Block and Nyaya Panchayat code. Added blank/0
value filed there.
3. All codes except Location code changed to numeric format from padded
text format.
4. Added ISO state codes for easier identification.
5. Created Unique record_ID using ISO State codes and Locationcode
6. No change done to any Data beyond and including the place name

Possible errors :

There could still be some missing Names of Districts/Tehsils etc.

Further improvments will be done later.

Released this Version on 28August2018

May edit this file later with more specific cleaning done.

Hers is the googeldrive link to the data

I request interested people to have a look at it and we will rectify any
shortcomings and then load it in the repository.

[datameet] Re: Population Density per pincode

2018-08-15 Thread Naraina aka Dilip Damle
Hello,
>From first principles

Population density means Population Divided Geographical Area.

To compute area we need boundaries or the areas directly.

I feel the Area or the boundary of a Pincode number is not available. May
not be reliable.

Population is also not available Pincodewise.

But you have Population and area of villages Precisely in census Data.

There are about 6.5 lakh Villages and Data for them is available.

Latest Pincode directory has about 1.5 Lakh entries containing about 19000
Pincodes from Data.gov.in

If you really want to work at Pincode Level then you will need to figure
out how to link these to Data sets.

I am not mentioning any specific source because it is confusing.

-

If you are going by District Data then you are not going at Pincode level.
My guess ...

-

To the Best of my knowledge Census of India Villagewise areas are available
only for 2001 census. Same data for 2011 is not released yet.

[datameet] Found a bigger directory of India - Villages

2018-08-13 Thread Naraina aka Dilip Damle
Hello,

In the process of trying to combine and study the other sources of a
comprehensive directory of Indian villages I stumbled in to this.

https://www.dbtdacfw.gov.in/

On this website go to DOWNLOAD _ MASTERS and you can directly download A
masyer at every level from State to Village.

The village list contains 7,10,319 Entries .. at least about 50,000 more
than other single source.

Downloading is easy .. no scraping required.

For the benefit of New People the other Known sources were

1. Census
2. Local Government Directory
3. Rural Ministry data
4. Water ministry habitation data.

---

Update as I am writing this

Ran "Remove Duplicates" On that file and found about 8000 absolute
duplicates after removal

7,02,068 Villages Remain .. Still substantially more than other
sources.

Note : I have not yet studied the masters for Veracity.

Regards

Dilip Damle

Re: [datameet] India Map

2018-05-27 Thread Naraina aka Dilip Damle
HI,

Thanks

saw the link.

It says "As per government of India"

What exactly does that mean?

Because it can get complicated is someone wants to REUSE it.

Though copyrights allow it. Survey Of India Rules may make you a criminal
if you republish it.

The last rules that I know of is a smaller than A4 map of India outline
printed on tracing paper and bought from SOI is the only map that can be
reproduced without a specific permisssion.

Can someone through some light on this.

If I publish maps on Internet where the out matches with this map Vertex by
Vertex then am I allowed to do it without any specific permission.

To the best of my knowledge SOI has not published any boundary in Digital
format for open usage.

MY KNOWLEDGE MAY BE OLD, I WOULD LOVE TO BE CORRECTED.
