[datameet] Shapefiles of 2024 parliamentary constituencies

2024-03-21 Thread Jin Wu
Hi everyone!

Appreciate all the great work you all have contributed to the group. Cannot
say enough how helpful these questions & conversations have been.

Does anyone in this group knows whether ECI publishes shapefiles for the
latest parliamentary constituencies? Have been looking at the pdf they
shared for the 2024 general election and noticed some constituency
boundaries seem to have changed.

Any tip on where we could possibly find it would be super helpful.

Thank you so much!
Jin

Due to its decentralized nature, it will be surprising if there exists any
single data source for it.

A good start would be https://github.com/datameet/Municipal_Spatial_Data
for the major cities, although not sure if they are current.

[datameet] Shapefiles for 5th schedule areas

2023-06-18 Thread Mila Samdub

Hello everyone,

My first request in this group!

Does anyone have access to or know where one can find shapefiles for all 5th
schedule areas (i.e. tribal areas) in India? One can easily put together a map
of all districts which contain 5th schedule areas. But since areas can be
notified at the subdistrict level, I'm looking for more granular shapefiles.

Thank you so much,

Mila

 Hi Bharath,

Consider creating an issue/ticket for each wanted city in the issues
 section of https://github.com/datameet/Municipal_Spatial_Data .

It will be better tracked and resolved there. On this mailing list your
post will get buried in a few days time, and there are several request
posts just like yours (search here
 ) so it'll be lost
in a crowd and may not get noticed later on.

On github, it will stay visible in long term. Others who have that data
in some other form like PDF will share it. Someone else will come, take up
the geotracing task and share the shapefile (like I did for Pune). So in
case you don't get immediate response here, you'll have higher chances of
 success there.

Note: if you do create a ticket/issue, please make a separate one for
each city. That way they can be tracked individually

Re: [datameet] Shapefiles of Ward Maps for the following Cities

2018-09-11 Thread Nikhil VJ
Hi Bharath,

Consider creating an issue/ticket for each wanted city in the issues
section of https://github.com/datameet/Municipal_Spatial_Data .

It will be better tracked and resolved there. On this mailing list your
post will get buried in a few days time, and there are several request
posts just like yours (search here
) so it'll be lost in a
crowd and may not get noticed later on.

On github, it will stay visible in long term. Others who have that data in
some other form like PDF will share it. Someone else will come, take up the
geotracing task and share the shapefile (like I did for Pune). So in case
you don't get immediate response here, you'll have higher chances of
success there.

Note: if you do create a ticket/issue, please make a separate one for each
city. That way they can be tracked individually

This is mostly our (DataMeet's) problem than users. Eventhough Google owns
groups, some how Google group posts don't appear that significantly on
generic Google search. Today what doesn't appear on Google search doesn't
exist. So i do understand.

May be we need to have a post on how to search on Google groups effectively?

Or

I have the script for scraping the Google groups conversations for backup.
May be i can update it to generate some of the most popular discussions as
static htmls at

http://projects.datameet.org/discussions

That way Google can index better or we can link better.

Looking at how useful
https://projects.datameet.org/maps has been. I don't think its a bad idea.

What do you guys think?

Let me know. I have a day or two work on this end of this month. Also if

Re: [datameet] Shapefiles of Villages of Tamil Nadu

2018-08-23 Thread Nikhil VJ
Hi Nitin, Partha,

Can you raise one ticket/issue for each of your states to work on village
boundaries here:
*

And in that can you put in whatever details you already have about the
matter? For example, before coming to this group and posting your question
you surely must have checked at other places and found at least something
if not the whole thing. Maybe PDF maps of sub-districts, for example. That
is something a GIS/planning student can turn into a shapefile in a day for
you. Maybe you know exactly which office/department in that state is in
charge of officially maintaining the maps. These are all vital leads. so
please put them in your posting so that you maximise the chances of your
success.

The folks from datameet community who CAN help you, who have *succeeded* in
getting together village shapefiles of many other states so far, will be
better reached at that github repo, and more constructive things can happen
over there, like different leads can come in. On the mailing list I've seen
over a dozen separate requests for village boundaries for the same states
being made by now. The requesters should consider allying together to
achieve their common aims.

Q : "I've only joined just now so I have no clue about others who have also
requested for the same"
A : This is not a whatsapp group. It's an openly readable public forum on
the internet. You can search through all the past postings on this mailing
list going back almost a decade, over here:
 *. One simple search
might fetch you a lot of resources.

Re: [datameet] Shapefiles of Villages of Tamil Nadu

2018-08-22 Thread Nikhil VJ
Hello Partha,

This email is about plan B (seeing that your original request was made an
year ago).

In the event that you have PDF/image maps of what you need but no
shapefile, you can make your own shapefiles. I did that for latest
municipal wards for Pune, MH, gave all the official source links and
disclaimers in documentation (that this is volunteer traced, no guarantees,
for accuracy go to officials, etc etc), and some orgs here have been happy
to take and use the shapefile in their work.

See *this guide I've made for non-GIS folks
*, and
there are many others on the net, videos even. Search for "geo-referencing"
or "digitising maps". There are also students, freshers around looking for
such work so they can add to their cv's.

And if shapes are too cumbersome and the end requirement is just to show
locations on map, then getting single lat-long point of each place is an
easier task.

[datameet] Shapefiles for Hyderabad

2014-06-05 Thread Si
Dear all,

Would really appreciate if someone provides shape files for Hyderabad.
These could be either for the municipal ward boundaries or Hyderabad
metropolitan region (both would be brilliant). If it is not available here,
any advice on where I could get it will be very helpful.

This is to be used solely for academic purposes.

Thanks

Si
