countrychooser translations broken by iso-codes
I noticed that in many languages, countrychooser's menu item is displayed as a blank line. This includes Chinese, Japanese, Greek, Russian, Norwegian. Some investigation revealed that this is because mktemplates was is not set -e, so when debconf-updatepo failed, it continues and built a broken package. debconf-updatepo failed like this: xgettext: Non-ASCII string at ../templates.tmp:3. Please specify the source encoding through --from-code. WARNING: It seems that none of the files in POTFILES.in contain marked strings This is because /usr/share/iso-codes/iso_3166.tab has added to it the Aland islands, excpet the A is spelled Å. I have put in a nasty hack to deal with this so we can get a working version of the package again, but I wonder if that file should include non-ascii strings? Also, one last problem -- I noticed that even with these fixes, the generated templates file has blank lines for the nl translations. -- see shy jo signature.asc Description: Digital signature

This is the result printed on Dennis page. But it is indeed not accurate, have a look at buildd logs and you will find more fuzzy strings. So the problem here is that apt-all.pot is not up-to-date. Here is an untested patch, but someone should ask apt maintainers to update it. Denis apt-all.pot.bz2 Description: Binary data
Re: sarge-alpha-businesscard: CD-ROM can't be mounted from menu
clone 237604 -1 reassign -1 kernel-image-2.4.24-1-generic retitle -1 devfs creates invalid symlinks for SCSI cdrom devices thanks Hi Ralph, On Wed, Mar 10, 2004 at 09:03:59PM +0100, Ralph Aichinger wrote: I've got a new AlphaServer 1000A 4/266 and wanted to try out the new sarge images (after having successfully installed some i386 machines with it). The image I have downloaded yesterday has file dates from Mar 8 21:15 in the newest files. I will supply a more formal report later, if you wish, but now I am mainly asking if there is an easy workaround for me to continue installing: I boot successfully, I get to the menu, but when I try to mount the cdrom (SCSI, id 4), the installer can't mount it. When I look at /dev/cdroms/cdrom0, it gives a symbolic link to yyyscsi/host0/bus0/target4/lun0/cd with the yyys having dots on them like umlauts or diaresis characters. I tried en_US as well as en_UK or de_DE just to exclude a problem with the locale or charset. Yes, this is a known bug. It appears to be due to a problem in the devfs support in the 2.4.24 kernel, affecting only SCSI CDROM devices. It's possible this may be fixed in 2.4.25, but I have no way to test here. Would you be willing to test a 2.4.25-based d-i image if I build it, to see if this fixes the devfs problems? -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer signature.asc Description: Digital signature

It does, or better, log-changes script does. It can not convert them only if the encoding of the .po-file is not the same as the encoding of the translator's name. BTW, the quoted text looks perfectly encoded, where is the problem? Take a look at partman/partman/debian/changelog, translator names are not UTF-8 encoded. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/i18n/apt/test/apt-0.5.23/po$ yes, that's correct. All strings *in pt_BR.po* are translated. Please run a msgfmt to the .pot-template and compare the results: 455 translated in your .po and about 282(I don't remember) in the template. So, it seems that for some packages seppy's page's right while it's wrong for some others (not sure which ones). In the apt case explained above, which one's correct ? Current apt or seppy's page ? the .po-files are updated before being checked. You can download this updated file in files/lang/ or do it yourself by running msgfmt -U file.po templ.pot (-U only if gettext from testing/unstable) (the po-files in CVS are most-time updated, but the po-files in 2nd-stage aren't) cheers, Dennis -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Re: New discover1 upload needed
[David Nusinow] I've prepared a new discover upload. The translators have been fantastic lately, so there's tons of new translations in there, as well as a few other fixes including the ash/dash dependency. In addition, I've prepared a discover-data upload to along with it, with a few more pcmcia fixes and some other minor bugs. The sources are located at http://www.tufts.edu/~dnusin01/discover/. If someone would please upload them for me, as I'd like to get these updates in before the next release. Thank you! Did you forget to commit it to the alioth CVS? At least I am unable to see the changes. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Yeah, I've committed every change that I've made to CVS for both discover1 and discover-data. You can see them when you browse the archive via the alioth cvsweb interface. - David Nusinow -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? [David Nusinow] Yeah, I've committed every change that I've made to CVS for both discover1 and discover-data. You can see them when you browse the archive via the alioth cvsweb interface. Strange. I looked for the fix for #237706: discover: Lithuanian translation, and am unable to find it. The debian/po/lt.po file is missing in CVS. Yet the BTS entry claim that it should be commited. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It's in the tree now, although not in the build on my site. Do you want me to upload a fixed version, or are you going to pull it down from CVS? - David Nusinow -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
