Bug#593013: installation-reports: No common CD-ROM drive detected

2010-08-15 Thread James B
Package: installation-reports
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

-- Package-specific info:

Boot method: CD
Image version: debian-testing-sparc-CD-1.iso, 8-9-10 build
Date: 08-14-10

Machine: Sun Ultra 10
Partitions: df -Tl will do; the raw partition table is preferred

Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Initial boot: [0]
Detect network card:[ ]
Configure network: [ ]
Detect CD: [E]

Detect hard drives: [ ]
Partition hard drives: [ ]
Install base system:[ ]
Clock/timezone setup: [ ]
User/password setup:[ ]
Install tasks: [ ]
Install boot loader:[ ]
Overall install:[ ]

Comments/Problems:

At the “Detect and mount CD-ROM” stage the installation failed.
The error message was “No common CD_ROM drive was detected.”
It suggested loading additional drivers from removable media.
Actually, in ”/dev”, no IDE or ATAPI devices showed up. So the Hard disk was
also not recognized.
The last “testing” build that I was able to install was 07-05-10, which also
had problems,
but at least the IDE devices were detected.

Bug#593054: installation-reports: Inconsistent partition naming during boot

Comments/Problems:

linux-image-2.6.32-5-sparc64 was selected for installation.

System would not reboot. It ended up in openboot at the “ok” prompt.
Last message was “Fast Data Access MMU Miss”
(WOW. This STILL has not been fixed).
I assumed this was the same problem as with the 02-08-2010 build.
The problem was ameliorated then in terms of “fixing” bugs(569719, related =
565639 562594).
Did so again:
Did rescue into an installer shell within hda2.
chroot /target
mount /dev/hda1 /boot
silo -u -f

Then attempted to reboot.
The boot process could not find “/dev/hda2” for root. It had been renamed
“/dev/sda2” in the boot environment.
But it was still /dev/hda2 on the disk. I changed hda2 to sda2 in
/boot/silo.conf . This allowed the boot sequence to complete.
Now I am left with disk partitions named sda* instead of hda*.
What is up with this? Are we changing naming conventions?
Will this inconsistency be fixed?
Thanks.

Bug#593105: tasksel: Please add a Smartphone task

2010-08-15 Thread Thibaut GIRKA
Package: tasksel
Version: 2.82
Severity: wishlist
Tags: d-i patch

Hi,
A Smartphone task providing a lightweight and small-screen-optimized dekstop
environment (e17 might be a good candidate) as well as smartphone specific
software (FreeSmartphone.org task, for instance) would be a good thing to have
in tasksel.

Here is a patch providing such a task, although its content and the way it is
implemented might be discussable.

Bug#593108: hw-detect: Install mmc-modules automatically if needed

2010-08-15 Thread Thibaut GIRKA
Package: hw-detect
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Some devices don't have a hard drive.
Instead of manually specifying modules for each device, it might be possible to
guess which device needs additional modules.

This patch implements one way to do this, by installing mmc-modules if no disk
are found.

Bug#593109: hw-detect: Register g_ether after loading it

2010-08-15 Thread Thibaut GIRKA
Package: hw-detect
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

For some (well, probably only the Neo FreeRunner), g_ether is automatically
loaded by the installer, but it isn't loaded by the installed system.
This patch registers g_ether, so that we can ssh to the device after
installation.

Bug#512546: Ethernet card not found

2010-08-15 Thread 李健秋
Package: installation-reports
Severity: importand

Hi kernel team,

I am promoting Debian edu to one of the schools in my region. And found
their machines are all has a built-in intel 82567LM-3 e1000e NIC which
effected by this bug.

I can confirmed the patch provided by Holger solved the problem. But it
would be much better to support this network card by default for our
users especially the school teachers and students in my region.

May I know what's current status for this bug?

Best regards,

-Andrew

otavio acked the unblocking of 160-1 on IRC, which migrated a few days

Bug#593097: Telugu (te) translation for win32-loader/l10n/po/te.po

This is part of D-I level 3.

Hi, and thanks for your contribution,

unfortunately, there are two problems with the actual situation:

1) You used an old .po version (the actual can be downloaded there [0]), so it
is not complete for the sid version. Now, I committed your actual translation
into the d-i svn, in order to acknowledge the actual work. :-) And I intend to
close this bug when win32-loader gets uploaded.

2) [and this is actually worse] nsis is not translated into Telegu yet, which
makes it impossible for win32-loader to actually use your translation on
Windows
hosts. Other languages are in the same situation: Asturian, Dzongkha, Kazakh, …
See e.g. bugs #587208, #511625, #578501 for details.

Now the actual strategy is to include the .po files in the hope that nsis gets
translated once into said languages.

How does that sound to you ?

Cheers,

OdyX

For some (well, probably only the Neo FreeRunner), g_ether is automatically
loaded by the installer, but it isn't loaded by the installed system.
This patch registers g_ether, so that we can ssh to the device after
 installation.

Seems OK to commit, too.

Many thanks for your report.

You should try using something else than alpha1 netinst. GRUB was
changed deeply since alpha1 was released and the netinst image
includes grub packages as they were by the time of that release.

Could you try using either the businesscard alpha1 (GRUB ad
grub-installer packages will then be those currently in testing) or,
even better, the current daily builds and particularly the *netboot*
daily build.

If that solves your issue, then I suggest you close this bug report

Bug#593108: hw-detect: Install mmc-modules automatically if needed

Some devices don't have a hard drive.
Instead of manually specifying modules for each device, it might be possible
 to
guess which device needs additional modules.

This patch implements one way to do this, by installing mmc-modules if no disk
 are found.

That seems simple, straightforward and I don't see any risk in
committing this. Let's wait for Otavio's comment but I'd say GO for
committing.

Bug#593146: installation-reports: Grub Config/Install gives prompts in wrong order -

2010-08-15 Thread Keith Ward
 Christian,

Thanks for that, I tried running the daily netinst just now , in a
virtual machine to see what results I could get the previous reported
oddities have disapeared, however with this netinst I can't complete the
install as it fails to install grub on /dev/sda.

netinst build: *Sun Aug 15 21:16:41 UTC 2010*.

Checking tty4, it states grub-probe error - no such disk
Auto-detection of a filesystem module failed, specify the module
explicitly Running 'grub-install --no-floppy --force /dev/sda' failed

Do you want me to file a new installation report for this, and close
this bug?

Regards,

Keith

Hi, and thanks for your contribution,

is not complete for the sid version. Now, I committed your actual translation
into the d-i svn, in order to acknowledge the actual work. :-) And I intend to

I created a new .po from the POT file found here:
http://d-i.debian.org/l10n-stats/level3/POT/win32-loader_l10n_po.pot
Please find the attached.

 2) [and this is actually worse] nsis is not translated into Telegu yet, which

Now the actual strategy is to include the .po files in the hope that nsis gets
 translated once into said languages.

How does that sound to you ?

That is OK. I'll try to contribute to nsis whenever possible.

Thanks,
Veeven.
