Re: [PATCH,RFC] Fetch c-s translations from xkeyboard-config.

Or we decide to not care about having a 1MB console-setup.config (maybe we can manage to ship it compressed and extract it on the fly) A Pre-Depends doesn't win you anything there either, since by the time apt runs dpkg-preconfigure your pre-dependencies aren't unpacked afaik. troubles install debian on nslu2
I'm having troubles installing debian on the NSLU2. I've tried both the automatic and manual instalation methods. http://www.cyrius.com/debian/nslu2/install.html http://www.cyrius.com/debian/nslu2/unpack.html When using the automatic mode I configured dhcp in the web interface before flashing the NSLU2. For the automatic mode I wasn't sure when to plug the usb drive in and should it be formatted. Generally I just tried plugging the usb drive in after the upslug2 finished. It was probably formatted with 1 FAT partition. For the manual mode I formatted the drive as specified and inserted it right after the upslug2 finished. I'm using a 1G flash device as the storage medium. In both cases after flashing and plugin in the usb the leds flash green for a while (sort of a 1,11,111,,,1,1 pattern) and finally they stay (2,1,1,1,1) for well over 15 minutes. 2=orange 1=green 0=off Has anyone else seen similar issues or have any idea how I can fix this? Thanks, andy -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
First tests with console-setup replacing kbd-config
I've finally been able to test D-I with consoel-setup replacing kbd-config. That was a crude test: - build c-s - put udebs in installer/build/localudebs - installer/build/pkg-lists/netboot/i386.cfg: - comment kbd-config - add console-setup-udeb, console-setup-pc-ekmap, console-setup-fonts-udeb - rebuilt D-I netboot - boot D-I (expert mode) - choose French Then, I was prompted for many keyboard/font related things, in French. Keymap names *were translated* (at least partly), so Samuel changes are appareently working as expected. However, even though nothing apparently failed in c-s, the keymap in D-I remained unchanged Then, later trying to come back in Keyboard configuration just did nothing... Still, that gives good hope that we can manage to solve these issues and move on and switch from kbd-config to console-setup. I really encourage D-I contributors to test all this and report problems...or send patches..:-) -- signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#528489: tasksel: kde-desktop neeeds adjusting for KDE4
Quoting Ana Guerrero (a...@debian.org): Will the kde-standard meta package fit that requirement? Yes, I think it will do. Currently kde-standard is exactly the same than kde-minimal. The goal in the very close future is that kde-standard become something between kde-minimal and kde-full; this a similar to what the old task does, it contains kde-core and some modules. (Actually I think the current list of key packages is too big, but that does not matter anymore) .../... I think that Ana's answer is well suited to answer Frans' concerns. So, applying the patcjh *and uploading tasksel* would be OK, IMHO. Any objections to this ? (please note that I'm OK to apply the patch but, while I could certainly upload tasksel as well, I'd prefer the regular maintainers to do so (looking for the recent past, that would mean Joey or Otavio). signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Problem: Not found last installers initrds and kernels.
Hi everyone! I've working on an custom installer. Now, we're using the lenny installer, but due to some problems, we want to change the d-i to sid or squeed for uuid supoort. I got the installer udebs from the daily build (sid), but i don't find the initrd and kernels for net or cdrom installation (wich are the methods that we use). I usually downloaded them from: ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/sid/main/installer-i386/current/, but there is not updated with the last kernel version (2.6.29), and it fails. ¿Where can i found those components without compile the entire debian installer? Bug#528351: similar bug
I believe this may be the same bug experienced in bug #526525 which I'm also seeing on a Dell R610. If this helps, the R610 I'm seeing this on sees it's disk under Lenny running an i686 kernel, but I'm unable to either change to the amd64 kernel or complete the amd64 lenny installer as the disks aren't detected. I'm in the proceess of diagnosing the problem and have five R610s at my disposal for testing if that's any help. Are there any particularly useful diagnostics to aid this bug? Bug#529307: installation report
Hello, Thank you for the response. When using knoppix, I can see several wireless networks available in the area. I just chose the one that says wireless (it is the free one in our building) The reason I used 802.11b as a ESSID is because I read it off the wireless network card. (I just took a shot in the dark) More background info: I did a HD install of knoppix When I went to install debian, I could see the lights on my wireless network card were lit during the Detect Network part, then one of the lights goes out during the Configure Network part. Where do I type in the iwlist eth1 scan ? I am a beginner. I just want a nice stable GUI OS that I can use for basic home office tasks. This is a fairly uncommon name for a wireless network. Knoppix might be using any found network if the mentioned one is not responding. As you have apparently a working Knoppix boot, could you try: iwlist eth1 scan (replace eth1 by the name of your wireless interface) It will show you wireless networks in the neighbourhood: pick the ESSID from yours.

Bug#529343: debian-installer: physical volume for encryption: doesnt care if already encrypted and kills data
Package: debian-installer Version: testing Netinstall CD AMD64 2009-03 Severity: critical Justification: causes serious data loss When having to reinstall a system with an encrypted root-partition, the installer gives no means to reuse a physical colume for encryption which has already been set up in a previous install. The user isn't warned and the data contained in the encrypted volume will be killed without notice, even if the same password is supplied. I suggest to give the user the option of reusing the encrypted device or at least give a big fat warning that his data will be killed, if he proceeds one step further. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.ISO-8859-15, LC_CTYPE=en_US.ISO-8859-15 (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Hi There were some commits related to this AFAIR, though it's unclear what the exact status is. Is it time to start testing or are there still some issues left? please allow ltsp 5.1.73-1 into testing
ltsp is blocked from migrating into testing, due to the ltsp-client-builder udeb, though this udeb is not used by debian-installer by default, and has no changes since the previous version. it has been in unstable for 6 days without introducing new problems, and includes several updated translations, new manpages, updated manpages, and updated documentation. thanks! live well, vagrant -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#529363: grub-installer: make sure grub-pc gets used when ext4 is chosen
tags 529363 - wontfix thanks Hi all, this is a proposed patch to make grub-installer use grub-pc if bootfstype is ext4. For grub-of and grub-efi, I assume they can handle ext4 just as well as grub-pc since they are also built from grub2? This change just covers cases in which we would use GRUB Legacy but found ext4. Mmm, I guess you missed my mails reporting that some time ago. Another issue is then that the `which` tool is not available in d-i, while postinst used to provide it as a function before sourcing console-setup.config.
