Re: Results of the porter roll call (Was: Roll call for porters of architectures in sid and testing)
Hi Niels, I don't know upto what point you are familiar with my history and its link to the powerpc port, but it pains me to see that the powerpc port is left with so few porters, and that it may mean the port being dropped. I also have not really followed the mailing lists since a long time, and don't know who is actually managing the powerpc port, but giving the (1) and 0.5 remark, i guess there is not a full porter. So given that, and provided debian may not see a problem again in me becoming active, i may be interested in becoming active again as powerpc maintainer. Not sure what category you can include me in though, and what the formalities would be should i become active (and welcome) in debian again. Also, i am not really sure of the amount of time i will be able to devote to debian, and i will have to take my powerpc hardware out of the storage area i put it in, but i guess it should be enough to do powerpc porting work, provided other folk help me out. That said, i am also interested in the powerpcspe port, as i am (slowly) working on a open-hardware Freescale P1010 based board. Anyway, please let me know if there is anything i can do. I'm interesting in helping on ia64. I'm not fluent in ia64 assembly, but I can get around pretty well. I'm very experienced in C/C++/Java and debugging. I've got a fully functional system running Xorg/Mesa3D/sound, so I can reproduce, test, and fix issues as time permits. Hi, Nothing motivates like a deadline... I am an active porter for the following architectures and I intend to continue this for the lifetime of the jessie release: For kfreebsd-amd64 and kfreebsd-i386, I - test many packages on this architecture - triage arch-specific bugs - fix arch-related bugs - keep an eye on buildds - stay current with debian-bsd@lists.d.o - help with wheezy security support for arch-specific packages Furthermore I run kfreebsd-amd64 on a development machine, and on a number of production servers. I use kfreebsd-i386 on some embedded systems in a production environment. I am not a DD/DM, but maybe someday... Thanks! I'm the most recent person to report that bug. Unfortunately I run a sole ia64 box in a production setting and I only have physical access to it during business hours (and no management card) which makes experimenting with kernels difficult. I would be more than happy to sign up as a porter for ia64 however I would need to obtain more hardware. Hi, Although I'm not a DD/DM, I currently do the majority of the Debian unstable package builds for parisc. As noted by Helge, these are available at www.parisc-linux.org . While not fully complete, the archive contains several thousand packages that are constantly being updated. We are close to restarting a parisc buildd... I perform a small amount of porting (e.g., webkitgtk, qt4-x11, ...) and bug reporting. This has reduced the number of packages which need changes to build on parisc. I'm also a parisc GCC and binutils maintainer. In the past year or so, I spent a significant amount of time working on parisc cache related issues in the linux kernel. I support this activity with three parisc servers and one workstation. In my spare time, I do embedded software and electronic design. I am not a DD/DM but would like to become one. At last, I would be happy if parisc could become again a supported platform in the debian-ports repositories for the lifetime of Jessie. parisc was dropped with debian squeeze, because there were quite some stability issues with the Linux kernel at that time. Re: Roll call for porters of architectures in sid and testing (Status update)
FWIW, I am a porter of the Alpha architecture in the following ways: - run a buildd - kernel support - work with upstreams for toolchain support - general porting work including filing bugs and patches I doubt if I will continue that for the life cycle of Jessie given that many of the former faithful seem to be deserting alpha and I don't fancy being the last one left to turn off the lights. But possibly of interest is that I seem to be finding myself using arm based hardware more and more and I anticipate that I might soon be doing arm porting work. Whether that is for all or just a subset of arm ports is yet to be seen. I am subscribed to the debian-alpha and debian-arm mail lists. I am not a DD. Hi! I'm not a DD or DM, but an upstream contributor and maintainer for the toolchain, both for different things at work, and in my free time for the Hurd. I have no plans to stop this, so this will cover the jessie lifetime. As time permits, I also work on the Hurd itself, and advise contributors in porting issues as well as work on porting issues myself. My involvement for debian-parisc so far: - - I was one of the initiators of parisc-linux port back in 1999. - - I have continuous worked on the ports since then. - - I'm currently one of the two official linux kernel maintainers for the parisc port at kernel.org. - - I've fixed quite some debian bugs reported for parisc in the past, including locking functions in gcc, KDE fixes, udev fixes and many more. - - I do have a strong linux developer background (C/C++, Assembler) and was formerly a developer at a major linux distributor. - - I'm maintaining the parisc-linux website and wikis. I am not a DD/DM but would like to become one. At last, I would be happy if parisc could become again a supported platform in the debian-ports repositories for the lifetime of Jessie. parisc was dropped with debian squeeze, because there were quite some stability issues with the Linux kernel at that time. Roll call for porters of architectures in sid and testing
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 Hi, As we announced in [LAST-BITS], we would like to get a better idea of that status of the ports, to make an informed decision about which port can be released with jessie. One of the steps is to get an overview of which of the porters are (still) active for each port. Once the results from the role-call are in, we will request other information about the status of the ports. In the meantime, feel free to update and collect info about the ports in the Debian wiki[WIKI]. If you are (or intend to become) an active porter for the lifetime of jessie, then please send a signed email explaining your involvement in the port to the Release Team debian-rele...@lists.debian.org before 1st of October 2013. Hi, sorry I'm not a skilled programmer, I just have a historic SGI O2 to play around with a bit. If the hardware dies, I won't really have any reaspn to stay involved with this port. -Adam On Sun, Sep 1, 2013 at 3:33 AM, Niels Thykier ni...@thykier.net wrote: -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 Hi, As we announced in [LAST-BITS], we would like to get a better idea of that status of the ports, to make an informed decision about which port can be released with jessie.
