Bug#304296: Segfault in CppOwnedDeallocPkgSrcRecordsStruct
On Tue, Apr 12, 2005 at 11:41:23PM +0200, Michael Vogt wrote: I tried to reproduce the problem with the latest tla version of python-apt and it seems to work with it (at least I didn't managed to make it segfault). Could you verify this? The source is available via gnu arch (tla) at: http://people.debian.org/~mdz/arch/ as [EMAIL PROTECTED]/python-apt--main--0 it also contains a implementation of many bits of the depcache. Looking over your example code it looks like it contains many bits that you may want (what version is the candidate, is it upgradable etc). See the doc/examples/depcache.py code for example usage. There is some work going on to improve python-apt, if you are interessted in helping/testing, please let me know :) I haven't tried it, but looking at the source the problem is still there. You allocate the object with CppPyObject_NEW, and deallocate it with CppOwnedDealloc. Below is the code. = START = template class T struct CppPyObject : public PyObject { T Object; }; template class T struct CppOwnedPyObject : public CppPyObjectT { PyObject *Owner; }; template class T inline CppPyObjectT *CppPyObject_NEW(PyTypeObject *Type) { CppPyObjectT *New = PyObject_NEW(CppPyObjectT,Type); new (New-Object) T; return New; } template class T void CppOwnedDealloc(PyObject *iObj) { CppOwnedPyObjectT *Obj = (CppOwnedPyObjectT *)iObj; Obj-Object.~T(); if (Obj-Owner != 0) Py_DECREF(Obj-Owner); PyMem_DEL(Obj); } = END = As you can see you're accessing Obj-Owner in CppOwnedDealloc, which was never initialized. Since malloc (used somewhere in PyObject_NEW, depending on some preprocessor defines) doesn't guarantee initialized memory, you are accessing a random pointer, and then you Py_DECREF() it. This may or may not segfault, depending on your luck. So please apply my patch, or some variation thereof. Cheers, Greek0 signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#305923: rsnapshot does not handle new rsync '--timeout' option

The problem is in the html indentation plugin. It has BS in its indentkeys, which causes the indentation of the current line to be recalculated every time BS is pressed. Unfortunately the algorithm walks previous lines searching for tags, which takes ages. My fix was to remove BS from indentkeys, I'm not having problems with it since then. Bug#305971: f2c: segfaults on m68k
Package: f2c Version: 20020621-3.2 Severity: serious Justification: segfaults on m68k which causes r-base build to fail (and probably others as well) On m68k, r-base and a few other packages need f2c to build. The latest release of R fails to build on m68k with f2c segfaulting: http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?pkg=r-basever=2.1.0-1arch=m68kstamp=1114147840file=logas=raw The previous test release of R, however, built just fine: http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?pkg=r-basever=2.0.1.beta.20050410-1arch=m68kstamp=1113451773file=logas=raw I assume this is dues to a bug in f2c, since with the f2c that was installed in the successful built, ch2inv.f can be compiled, whereas with the f2c that is currently in incoming, it can not. Bug#297753: broken glib modules la files
package libglib2.0-dev merge 297741 297753 quit please also fix gmodule, glib and gobject (and the already reported gthread). I really do not understand why the static name is missing from those files the source packages ship with them defined properly. I don't care about the modules, i only need glib though the problem must be related :) The only workaround is to disable libtool in my project (which is a /sbin binary called before /usr is available) and ship with a hardcoded link string of 10 lines. I expect it to break quite often and on most archs . The other way is to recode part of the glib datatypes ... that looks like reinventing the wheel with more holes and security issues ! Well regarding the comment in the debian readme maybe reenabling static for gmodule is a bad idea. Is this the rationale behind the current breakage ? I really need to know if this will be fixed in sarge. If this is not planned please don't pay attention to my request. the project is for ubuntu and debian system. Bug#305854: zope2.7 symlinks, FHS, bug 305854
hi Situation: zope2.7 is compiled with prefix=/usr/lib/zope2.7, but then all .py are installed in /usr/share/zope2.7 and symlinks are created in /usr/lib/zope2.7 Some people do not like this, and I read emails asking why this (expletive deleted) symlinking mess??? The latest such complaint is in bug 305854. Simple: because the policy dictates so, in section 9.1.1 : The location of all installed files and directories must comply with the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS), version 2.1, except where doing so would violate other terms of Debian Policy. file:///usr/share/doc/debian-policy/policy.html/ch-opersys.html#s9.1 The FHS, in turn, says : Miscellaneous architecture-independent application-specific static files and subdirectories should be placed in /usr/share. /usr/share/doc/debian-policy/fhs/fhs.html/fhs-4.4.html Originally , zope2.7 did install all its .py code in /usr/lib : that is ~10Mb of code, and it is too much, and some people complained, so I created the symlinking mess. Please, Martin, do not change zope2.7 installation system. Note that the policy is not saying should. It is saying must. Violating the policy is a seriuos bug: is a severe violation of Debian policy (that is, the problem is a violation of a 'must' or 'required' directive); may or may not affect the usability of the package. Such bug may be tagged release-critical, and would kick zope2.7 out of Debian/sarge. I understand that you were frustrated in losing some hours in fixing bug 305854 (and I thank you for the patch). At the same time, I see that the bug was due to a careless using of a realpath directive in the code. The /usr/lib/zope2.7 is filled with symlinks. These are undistinguishable from real files, unless a call to realpath is used. grep -ri realpath zope2.7 | wc shows that there are 18 calls to realpath around. I will check them all. As the saying goes, shit happens, bugs happen, shitty bugs happen more often than ever. a. -- Andrea Mennucc E' un mondo difficile. Che vita intensa! Bug#305980: keduca: include keduca-shrinker
Package: keduca Version: 4:3.3.2-3 Severity: wishlist Hello, I wrote a small program that take a kdeduca test file (.edu) as input with say 100 question and output a kdeduca test file with 20 questions selected randomly. The project should be short-lived as we can strongly hope that at some point such feature will be directly implemented in keduca. Why not directly contributing to keduca? Because it's beyond my abilities (no c++ and qt knowledge) and we cannot wait until it's done. Why sharing such a trivial program? Because it cost us nothing while, who knows, it may help someone. Until this feature is implemented upstream (I'm about to suggest it), it may be useful to debian users to include this script with keduca. This package has been included in ORBit2 2.8.0 and above and only a few packages remain that depend on it and need to be rebuilt. It makes things a lot easier if you file bugs on packages needing rebuild a bit more in advance, it's now a bit close to release... Giving the maintainers of the depending packages a bit of warning in advance makes transitions like this go smoother. I'm a bit unsure how to proceed, cc'ing -release for opinion. Does the removal from unstable even have an effect on the release? If I see this correctly, the package shouldn't be removed from from testing, since there are still packages depending on it in testing. I have no problems postponing this request to after the release, though. No, but removing from unstable make it harder for an (unlikely) last-minute bugfix in linc, but most importantly, since linc is indeed quite outdated, it'd be *good* to have it removed from testing. I think it'd be best to file important bugs on all depending packages, asking them to rebuild to drop the linc dependency, and NMU those packages shortly after so that linc can get dropped. Whether those please rebuild bugs would be release-critical is an RM decision to make, I'd vote 'yes'. --Jeroen -- Jeroen van Wolffelaar [EMAIL PROTECTED] (also for Jabber MSN; ICQ: 33944357) http://Jeroen.A-Eskwadraat.nl -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#297985: gnat-gps: starting compilation terminates X session
Hi, I stumbled across this bug while scrolling through the list of release-critical bugs... I strace'd the involved processes and found that the X server is behaving fine (the bug on xserver-xfree86 should be closed). I would have attached the full gnat-gps strace, but 113K is a bit too large, I think - and it's easily reproducible (drop me a line if you need exactly _my_ output). - Upon the request to begin compilation, gnat-gps claims a legacy legacy PTY (it should really use the new mechanism and open /dev/ptmx instead) and forks off... stat64(/dev/ptypf, {st_mode=S_IFCHR|0666, st_rdev=makedev(2, 15), ...}) = 0 open(/dev/ptypf, O_RDWR|O_NONBLOCK) = 5 access(/dev/ttypf, R_OK|W_OK) = 0 fcntl64(5, F_SETFL, O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK) = 0 fcntl64(5, F_SETFL, O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK) = 0 rt_sigprocmask(SIG_BLOCK, [CHLD], [], 8) = 0 stat64(/bin/gnatmake, 0xbfffc62c) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) stat64(/usr/bin/gnatmake, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0755, st_size=1067896, ...}) = 0 clone(Process 2797 attached child_stack=0, flags=CLONE_CHILD_CLEARTID|CLONE_CHILD_SETTID|SIGCHLD, child_tidptr=0xb72b0928) = 2797 ... and the subprocess opens the slave device and connects its main fds to it. Bug#305874: smurf needs upgrade path, oops

I was the one who told swami's maintainer to add the Conflicts line. Oops. What's the correct way to handle the upgrade? Make a dummy smurf package that depends on swami? Hm, quoting developers reference: | 5.9.3 Replacing or renaming packages | | When you make a mistake naming your package, you should follow a | two-step process to rename it. First, set your debian/control file to | replace and conflict with the obsolete name of the package (see the | Debian Policy Manual for details). Do | not forget to properly reassign the package's bugs at the same time. That's exactly what you did. I admit I'm not sure how apt, aptitude, etc etc are going to handle this, the only time I did a package rename, was via a dummy package, with Replaces:, and certainly not Conflicts:. This isn't discussed at all in the developers reference, and atm I don't intend to dive into how to do this properly. It's even not impossible I was wrong and this way will have the intended effect, but I'm not at all convinced that this way will indeed provide a proper upgrade path. I think you'd best search the archives, and if that fails, ask debian-devel@lists.debian.org, so that more eyes than just my own can look into it. I can be wrong too, it'd be silly to solely rely on my advice, when you can ask the advice of dozens of extra people :). --Jeroen -- Jeroen van Wolffelaar [EMAIL PROTECTED] (also for Jabber MSN; ICQ: 33944357) http://Jeroen.A-Eskwadraat.nl -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. If so, we could produce a new IPS patch from the already-patched ROM he provides). If you are interested in the already-patched ROM, I can send that to you. Since you have added full IPS support to openMSX, this bug report can be closed when the new openMSX package with full IPS support is uploaded. Bug#305991: openmsx: please write SRAM files in synchronous mode (no buffering)
Package: openmsx Version: 0.5.1-2 Severity: wishlist Tags: upstream It would be nice if the SRAM files (especially stuff like the Konami Gamemaster-II SRAM files) were always kept current on disk. As it is, the files do not always reflect the contents of the SRAM while openMSX is running (and I just lost a few hours worth of KnightMare III progress because of it :-P ). If writing to the SRAM on-disk backup in syncronous mode is not feasible, flushing it out every second (only when the contents were modified) would do just fine. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.11.7-debian2+libata6dev1+bluesmoke Locale: LANG=pt_BR.ISO-8859-1, LC_CTYPE=pt_BR.ISO-8859-1 (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages openmsx depends on: ii cbios 0.20-1 open source MSX BIOS roms ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-21 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libgcc1 1:3.4.3-12 GCC support library ii libpng12-01.2.8rel-1 PNG library - runtime ii libsdl-image1 1.2.4-1image loading library for Simple D ii libsdl1.2debi 1.2.7+1.2.8cvs20041007-4.1 Simple DirectMedia Layer ii libstdc++51:3.3.5-12 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libxml2 2.6.16-7 GNOME XML library ii tcl8.48.4.9-1Tcl (the Tool Command Language) v8 ii xlibmesa-gl [ 4.3.0.dfsg.1-12.0.1Mesa 3D graphics library [XFree86] ii zlib1g1:1.2.2-4 compression library - runtime -- no debconf information -- One disk to rule them all, One disk to find them. On Saturday 23 April 2005 12:41 am, Ivan Nestlerode wrote: Package: aptitude Version: 0.2.15.9-2 Followup-For: Bug #304748 This bug is worse than it sounds. I've used aptitude for over a year with no major problems to speak of, but in the past couple of hours I've wasted a decent chunk of it due to this bug and a key-binding related to it. For whatever reason, shift-downArrow seems to have recently been mapped to bring up reportbug (which as mentioned here causes all of your pending work to be forgotten). Shift-downarrow isn't mapped to anything; xterm appears to hand the sequence ESC];2B to the client program, and it seems like ncurses just passes the raw key sequence along. This is a hazard of being a terminal-based program... 1. setting lots of stuff to autoinstalled On a machine that hasn't had aptitude run on it before, I'll often go into libs and mark all of the libraries as auto-installed. The keystroke sequence is downArrow, shift-M, downArrow, shift-M, etc. If I accidentally keep shift held down while hitting downArrow, I suddenly lose all of my work by getting thrown into reportbug. 2. purging lots of stuff When I go to purge a package that autoinstalled a lot of stuff, I then go to mark all of the autoinstalled stuff as purge (instead of just delete). Again the sequence looks like down, shift-dash, down, shift-dash. Again, holding down shift too long results in lost work. You could make this easier by temporary turning on the advance to the next item option. Unfortunately, aptitude is frozen in sarge, so I can't make many changes to it right now. Bug#305992: libsdl1.2debian: Mouse jumps to side of screen with xinerama
Package: libsdl1.2debian Version: 1.2.7+1.2.8cvs20041007-4.1 Severity: important If using SDL, and going into fullscreen mode, the mouse is rendered unusable with my setup. The mouse will move to the right side of the screen when you try to move it (not before), and will stay there no matter what. The problem causing this is my xinerama setup: my right monitor is the one i mostly use, and also for most of the fullscreen applications. On my left screen it was working alright last time i checked (a few weeks ago). Due to a debugging session when doing beta testing for Darwinia i discovered that the problem is related to some xrel value (not sure if that's of SDL or of Darwinia) being 1280 too large (my right screen starts at 1280x0, since my left screen is 1280x960, like my right one). It has been fixed in Darwinia by making a guess on the xinerama resolution and substracting that from the xrel/yrel values already found. Most, if not all, other programs i tried still suffer from this bug thought. I've found it to only happen in programs using SDL, so i'm quite sure it's a bug in SDL. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.10 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages libsdl1.2debian depends on: ii libsdl1.2debi 1.2.7+1.2.8cvs20041007-4.1 Simple DirectMedia Layer (with all -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#304855: termios

AFAIK, the modern, portable interface for doing this is termios, which we do provide in Glibc. Including asm/termios.h is Linux-specific because its using the wrong path. Would a #include termios.h do the job? This file is already included, but gtkterm also need asm/termios.h or sys/ttycom.h for TIOCM_* defines, as it gives the possibility to get or set control lines (ie CTS, RTS, DTR, etc.). Oh, I didn't know about these. I assume there aren't any libc to calls to wrap them around? Actually this asm/termios.h doesn't contain any functions, they are in the portable part of termios, ie in termios.h. asm/termios.h or sys/ttycom.h almost contains bit masks that are kernel dependent, and maybe (not sure) arch dependent. -- .''`. Bug#305981: Theme problem?
Hey, I am also not able to reproduce the problem. Would you mind trying to reproduce it with a different theme? My theory is your theme engine could be the problem or at least trigger it. I think I found the bug. Do you specified samples as 0? Because then yacpi does a division with 0 and thats wrong. Bug#294908: shared-mime-info breaks xsl transformation for browsers
I'm included Roland's complete reply so that it is recorded int the bts. I've also attached his example files to this mail. On Sat, 2005-04-23 at 14:02 +0200, Roland Schuble wrote: Hi, Thank you for the quick response. After applying th patch, I got the same error in my browser I had before: - Error loading stylesheet: (null) file:///home/sro/rankinglist.xsl - I'm using Mozilla Firefox 1.0.2 but the error is the same on all mozilla based browsers. I'm working on a gentoo linux system but also experienced the problem on debian. As soon, as I replace the line mime-type type=application/xslt+xml with mime-type type=text/xml or even mime-type type=application/xml everything works fine. I think Mathias has not checked with local xml/xsl files so this could be the difference. I attached the two files (xml and xsl) I used for my test so you can check the behavior in your own environment. Copy them in the same directory and open the xml file with the browser. A Ranking list should appear, if everything is ok. Ok. I've just used your files on my machine and agree that the current upstream fix does not work with firefox 1.0.2. I also agree that changing the mime type to application/xml makes the xsl file work in firefox. As a side note in my user account firefox will quite happily process the xsl file EVEN with the original debian supplied mime type of text/x-xslt. I've tried creating a new user profile for firefox in my home directory but it still insists on processing the file. It is only when I create a completely new linux user account that I see this bug at all. ?xml version=1.0 encoding=iso8859-1? ?xml-stylesheet type=text/xsl href=rankinglist.xsl? rankinglist contest=31. I got out this subtle error: Conflict in /usr/lib/kde3/plugins/designer/kdewidgets.so: Plugin uses incompatible Qt library! expected build key i586 Linux g++-3.* full-config, got i686 Linux g++-3.* full-config I inspected kdelibs source, found many i686 references. I changed them to i586, recompiled kdelibs and all errors dissapeared now. What are you referring to here? I see no references to i686 in the kdelibs source that could cause what you're referring to. When KDE is built, it is built as if the system were a 386. config.guess and config.sub are standard files that help the build system determine what your system is, and they shouldn't be tampered with. I have a suspicion about what's happening, though. Did you rebuild Qt on your own machine prior to rebuilding kdebase? Did you make any changes to Qt, or was it a simple download-and-build? Also, did you rebuild kdelibs _before_ this error popped up? If you did rebuild Qt, then it might have become i586 Linux g++-3.* full-config, whereas the stock kdelibs package was built against a Qt that had i686 Linux g++-3.* full-config. The mismatch was exposed when you tried to build kdebase (against the stock kdelibs and your own Qt). At that point, rebuilding kdelibs would of course solve the problem, since it would then have been rebuilt against the i586 Qt - no more mismatch. Changing kdelibs' 686 references would not have made a difference. Bug #253975 gives some idea of what the string in question is - it seems to represent the Qt ABI. In kdewidgets, therefore, seems to be recorded the Qt ABI against which kdelibs was built. Anyway, please let us know what happened. I don't think this is a bug in a KDE package, but this issue is probably worth following up nevertheless (it might reflect an issue with how Qt is built).
