Bug#321378: O: vgrind

2005-08-05 Thread Jason Parker-Burlingham
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

This package has very old bugs which need to be fixed. The current
maintainer has not had enough tuits or incentive to do so in some time.
On the other hand only a very small number of people use the program
regularly and perhaps it could be quietly dropped.

Bug#321381: webmin-firewall: firewall does not provide option to start on boot

2005-08-05 Thread Andrew Zahra
Package: webmin-firewall
Severity: important

I installed to systems with Sarge and then installed webmin and
webmin-firewall. On both systems, the webmin-firewall module doesn't
provide the option to Activate at boot. I only discovered this by
accident when running a security check on a system that had been
rebooted - which I found was wide open.

I uninstalled the debian modules and then hand installed webmin 1.220
from the webmin site and it all worked fine.

This seems like a serious security issue as people can easily configure
their firewall without realising it will not persist.

Bug#321354: Enabling java mips/mipsel in gcc-4.0

2005-08-05 Thread Wolfgang Baer
Hi GCC Team and Barry,

if mips/mipsle java build can be enabled I think doing this for
the current default 4.0 release in unstable would be more important
than in the old 3.3 release and (in my opinion) enough.

Free java is well usable with the 4.0 release and I see no gain from
also activating it in the older releases and put workload on the team.

Thanks,

Wolfgang

an try to backport fixes can be found in

cleanly without causing any hazards in sarge (no extension/locale breakage).
feedback is welcome.

Bug#321384: su refuses to change an expired password for root

2005-08-05 Thread Volker Westphal

Package: login
Version: 1:4.0.3-31sarge5

When I use ssh to log into an user account
with an expired password,
I'm forced to change the password like
this:

 Using username westphal.

This is the expected behaviour. It even
works for a direct login into
the root account (sshd configured to

However, when I try to su
to an expired root account, it refuses
to change the password:

 Sorry.

On a system where su is
the only way to become root, this would
mean a locked out root account. Imagine
a remote system with
sshd configured to PermitRootLogin
no and no direct console access.

Here is my configuration file /etc/pam.d/su,
with @includes removed
for clarity:

 auth   sufficient
  pam_rootok.so
 auth   required
  pam_unix.so nullok_secure
 account required
  pam_unix.so
 password required
 pam_unix.so use_authtok nullok
 session required
  pam_unix.so

The expected behaviour would be to immediately
request the user to
change the password like for the direct
logins.

Looking in su.c I found the following
comment:

 /*
 * Check to see if the account
is expired. root gets to ignore any
 * expired accounts, but
normal users can't become a user with an
 * expired password.
 */

IMHO this implementation of su confuses
expired (passwd -e user)
and inactive (passwd -l
user) passwords. An expired password is not
invalid, it is just marked for an immediate
change. I see no reason
why su should deny access to such an
account.

Bug#321283: [php-maint] Bug#321283: php5: SAPIs packages should provide zendmoduleapi-NN than phpapi-NN

  The zendextensionapi_version is not important for PHP extensions. The
  change of this value shouldn't force to recompile PHP extension package.

  phpapi_version is used only internally and doesn't matter.

 We've seen upstream rev this number on ABI breakage, so I'm not sure
 that it doesn't matter from a practical standpoint. They may INTEND
 to use things the way you describe, but the reality is that the current
 situation is the most robust and least likely to blow up in our faces as
 previous schemes have.

Yes, you're right. PHP_API_VERSION value is checked by some modules:

i.e.: ext/pdo/pdo_dbh.c:
#if PHP_API_VERSION = 20041225
zval *object = *object_pp;
#endif

So, I see the php5-pdo package have to depend on phpapi-NN _and_
zendmoduleapi-NN. I belive that Zend extension package should depend on
phpapi-NN and zendextensionapi-NN. Probably one value is not enough and the
packages should check two ABIs versions.

I think we should rely on real values that are shown by PHP itself (phpinfo
and phpize), not the internally computed by Debian package.

libexif12 is now in sid. A rebuild with the latest libexif-dev (0.6.12-2)

Bug#321354: Query about gcj status on mips and mipsel

2005-08-05 Thread Thiemo Seufer
Barry Hawkins wrote:
 Package: gcc-3.3

 GCC Team,
 Hello from the Debian Java Team! As part of a request to update the
 source package for antlr, I noticed that its last upload was staying out
 of testing for 120+ days, apparently because of dependency failure. One
 key dependency I spotted was gcj-3.4, as it was used for the compile to
 native task in antlr.
 Based on further research and help from my colleague Wolfgang Baer,
 we found that mips and mipsel were disabled at one time due to a bug[0]
 related to libffi not having been ported to mips at the time (June
 2001). The bug was subsequently closed, but in the source packages for
 both testing and unstable currently, debian/rules.defs still has mips
 and mipsel disabled:

 debian/rules.d/rules.defs (from 3.3.6-7), Line 191:
 java_no_archs := hurd-i386 mips mipsel freebsd-i386

 There may be other reasons for mips and mipsel still being disabled;
 if so, I apologize in advance. I was unable to find anything else in
 the time I had to research this issue. I have attached a patch for the
 unstable version of the source package.

gcj is currently still disabled because its runtime exceeds the
symbol number limit (16k symbols) binutils is currently able to
handle reliably. I hope I get around to fix it in the next weeks,
but I haven't looked into it yet.

 Yes, this seems to be the root of the problem.
 This bugreport is currently assigned to localization-config, so
 maybe Konstantinos can tell whether he is willing to preseed gdm
 settings.

I looked at the
.gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/xkb/%gconf.xml, there was only
us there. I can see this also in the GUI (it is Applications - Desktop
preferences - Keyboard).

  * I need to learn how to set up layout switch in gnome since I use a us
keyboard and can't type Turkish F blindly. What is that caps:shift
thingy? I'll try it tomorrow.

 This means that Caps Lock acts as a locked Shift key; this makes a
 difference on the upper row (the one with digits), but I do not know
 why it is set.

Hmm, I would say this is rather unusual. Just checked, Windows doesn't
do this. Maybe they are emulating Turkish F typewriters :) .

With kind regards,
Baurzhan.

Bug#321388: totd cannot handle configuration of dhcp3-client package

2005-08-05 Thread Victor Wagner
Package: totd
Version: 1.4-3
Severity: normal

When dhcp3-client is used for acquiring network configuration,
postinstall script doesn't find its configuration patches and doesn't
write dhclient-enter-hooks

dhcp3-client keeps its configuration in /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf
instead of /etc/dhclient.conf and uses directory of hook files
/etc/dhcp3/dhclient-enter-hooks.d

So, it should be quite easy to modify install scripts so that they would
check for such setup and write neccessary hook into
/etc/dhcp3/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/totd instead of
/etc/dhclient-enter-hooks

There is a workaround:

One can create symlink to /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf in /etc before
installation/reconfiguration of totd and then move created
dhclient-enter-hooks file into /etc/dhcpl3/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/totd

Probably, simular problem occurs with other DHCP clients included in
Debian distribution such as pump, dhcpcd, udhcpc

I can imagine that some of these dhcp clients are not flexible enough to
allow totd function as automatically reconfigurable proxy DNS server.
I think that in should be somehow mentioned in the totd package
documentation, for instance in README.Debian, that totd interoperable
only with such and such dhcp clients. But dhcp3-client should be
supported, because it is easier to support it than to explain why it is
not supported.

Yes, this was due to the change from 0.08 to 0.09, upstream adopted the

Bug#321389: scripts/l10n/l10nspellcheck/extract_msg.pl patch for plural forms

 Hi Eddy,

 I'd like to use your script for extracting strings from the po files; there's
 still
 the problem with the path in the *** path string and I'm experimenting
 a
 bit to find out a good solution: you might have to make some changes.

I have clearly expressed two possible solutions to this, and adding a
hard coded path to the file is ugly.

The proposed solutions are:
- set an environment variable with the path to be added to the input
file before running the script; read that ENV and
- give the path prefix as a parameter

Running a cwd to get the output and concatenating it with the given
input file is a plain hack 'cause one must eliminate a part of it (was
/home/zinosat or something like that)

Well, all are kind of wrong; if one uses concatenation, 'cause the
input file's path is relative and one might give it as ../../some.po
and concatenating that with the detected path is plain wrong and ugly.

 I noticed that the script fails to work with some particular strings (found
 in  level2
 po files):

 for example base-config.po contains this (I pasted the de because atm I
 have this file already open :))

 could you please see if you can make your script catch this strings?
 thanx in advance

The attached patch should be applied to the script
scripts/l10n/l10nspellcheck/extract_msg.pl in order to catch the
plural forms (catches also msgid and msgid_plural).

Please apply and commit the patch (commit comment: add suport for

 this also applies to the samba of the stable debian distri.
 samba uses many .tdb files, and there is a nice small tool within the
 package to dump those files, or check them.
 but there is no tool to dump them, rotate them .. if written a small
 shell script which should included in some cron.
No, these are not log files that need to be rotated (expired) for space
reasons, and it's not appropriate for individual packages to attempt to
impose backup policies for the system.
   the manpage of tdbbackup itself claims that the tool should run in the
   samba
   startup script to verify the tdb files.
  No, it says that the tool *may* be used at various points to verify the tdb
  files.
 for example This tool may also be used to verify the integrity of the .tdb
 files prior to samba startup or during normal operation.

   if the tdb files not dumped there is no way of rescue the system.
  Rescue it from what, exactly? In practice, tdb corruption is not at all
  common in the absence of a filesystem bug, so I don't see any reason to
  create such backup files outside of a system backup routine.
 oh the last time, a week a go a system crashed. i had a backup, rsnapshot,
 all file there but the samba had an very long uptime, so there were never any
 complete backups made from the tdb files.

 so all userpasswords were gone
 all domain machine accounts too

 there is a small backup-cron for the smbpasswd files, but in the current
 default config, smbpasswd files aren't used anymore.

 starting/stopping the daemon everytime before backup is an option, but a very
 bad one, because there are tools which do better, and all machines (i speak
 from windows xp clients) have the be rebooted too, so the can logon on the
 domain again (i know, windows has to be rebooted often) and in this special
 case there are some machines with special software on it which run 24h/7days.

Ok, but the manpage also says:

 The tdbbackup utility can safely be run at any time. It was designed so
 that it can be used at any time to validate the integrity of tdb files,
 even during Samba operation.

So why would you want to (or need to) start/stop samba at all for this? It
sounds to me like you should simply be snapshotting the necessary tdb files
as part of your backup routine.

Just trying to rebuild centericq, and its configure script checks

I expect this is due to something in the gnuTLS transition not

HD create troubles, debian was unable to identify the disk saing that there

the menu reporting stable test unstable and the script because debbootstrap was
unable to find on the server (all italians) the testing stable unstable, seems
to works if from shell i gave the command with etch, sarge or sid.
I have used debian since a long time and installed it on several computers, the
only problem I had was with my new laptop. THe only distro that
has been able to identify my hardware is Mandriva Limited Edition 2005, HD

lspci's output cames from mandriva LE05

I hope this report would be usefult to inprove the installer.

 Though the orig.tar.gz structure seems quite

Bug#321393: sarge to testing broke slrn macros

2005-08-05 Thread Brice Méalier
Package: slrn
Version: 0.9.8.1pl1-5
Severity: normal

Hello

I recently updated from sarge to testing. I use slrn for NG and I
defined some macros to emulate the keyshortcuts that I use under mutt.
These macros output Run-Time Error messages with the version of slrn
in testing but not with the one in sarge.

Here are the messages (respectively when I move the cursor at the top or
bottom in the headers view):
/home/brice/.slrn/slrn_macros.sl:16:up:Run-Time Error
/home/brice/.slrn/slrn_macros.sl:26:down:Run-Time Error

Here are the macros I use:

implements (my);

% always display read and unread articles
define enter_group_unread ()
{
set_prefix_argument (4);
call (select_group);
}
definekey (my-enter_group_unread, Return, group);

static define up ()
{
if (_is_article_visible ()  1)
call (article_line_up);
else
call (header_line_up);
}
definekey (my-up, \eOA, article);
definekey (my-up, \e[A, article);

static define down ()
{
if (_is_article_visible ()  1)
call (article_line_down);
else
call (header_line_down);
}
definekey (my-down, \eOB, article);
definekey (my-down, \e[B, article);

static define quit ()
{
if (_is_article_visible ()  1)
call (hide_article);
else
call (quit);
}
definekey (my-quit, q, article);

static define change_group ()
{
if (_is_article_visible ()  1)
call (hide_article, quit);
else
call (quit);
}
definekey (my-change_group, c, article);

static define quit_group ()
{
set_input_chars (Y);
call (quit);
}
definekey (my-quit_group, q, group);

So calling header_line_down and header_line_up creates these
errors. They might be relates to the rebuild against the new libslang.

Best regards, Brice

Bug#321394: cacti upgrade causes logrotate to fail

2005-08-05 Thread Julien Tayon
Package: cacti
Version: 0.8.6f-2
Severity: normal

After upgrading from woody to sarge log did not rotate anymore.

I would rather says that severity is critical, but it only concerns people
who upgraded from woody to sarge.

executing /etc/cron.d/logrotate by hand showed they were a syntax error in
/etc/logrotate.d/cacti.logrotate

which belongs to the oldstable package
http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?word=cacti.logrotatesearchmode=searchfilescase=insensitiveversion=oldstablearch=i386

As cacti installs /etc/logrotate/cacti, removing the old one fixes the
problem

in postrm I'd include

## check if upgraded from woody
## and remove the cacti logrotate file which causes logrotate to fail
oldLR=/etc/logrotate.d/cacti.logrotate
[ -e $oldLR ]  rm -f $oldLR

Bug#321399: kdemultimedia-kfile-plugins: id tags not working anymore with kfile plugins for multimedia

2005-08-05 Thread Pierre Souchay

Package: kdemultimedia-kfile-plugins
Version: 4:3.3.2-1
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

kfile plugins for multimedia don't work anymore, konqueror does not show
any metadata anymore and when I try with kfile, I have the following
error:
$ kfile mp3_or_ogg_file
mp3_or_ogg_file: MPEG Layer 3 Audio (audio/x-mp3)
KFileMetaInfo: WARNING: error loading the plugin
mp3_or_ogg_file: Cannot determine metadata

I suppose the is a problem in the library format (binary issue ?). Since
I use prelink, I tried to reinstall the package, but it does not work
neither. Note that other kfile plugins for different mime types work.

Hope this help, contact me for further details.

Best Regards.

Pierre Souchay

Bug#321396: dictionaries-common: update-openoffice-dicts should detect thesaurusesas well

2005-08-05 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: dictionaries-common
Version: 0.25.12
Severity: wishlist

I've been testing thescoder to generate Norwegian Bokmål thesaurus,
and got it working. But I had to edit dictionary.lst manually to add
a line

  THES nb NO nb_NO

to get it detected. It would be nice if the update-openoffice-dicts
script would detect the thesaurus and do this work automatically.

(It would also be nice if the file /etc/openoffice/dictionary.lst
would mention that it is automatically updated by the
update-openoffice-dicts program.)

Bug#321398: apt-show-versions: does not remove cache when purged

2005-08-05 Thread Henning Makholm
Package: apt-show-versions
Version: 0.08
Severity: normal

After

# apt-get install apt-show-versions
# apt-get --purge remove apt-show-versions

files are left in /var/cache/apt-show-versions (dpkg complains about
this while purging).

Installing and then purging a package should leave no garbage in the
file system (cf Policy 10.8, which explicitly specifies that all log
files must be removed when purging).

Because the cache will be unconditionally regenerated by the postinst
script anyway, it does not make sense to keep it around even if the
package removed-but-not-purged.

Please provide a prerm script that will remove the cache files.

Bug#279030: mldonkey-server: debconf configuration is entirely ignored

2005-08-05 Thread Sylvain LE GALL
Hello,

On Fri, Aug 05, 2005 at 01:10:02AM +0200, Peter Eisentraut wrote:

 I propose the attached patch to clear up the conflict between the
 debconf settings and the conffile. I believe this follows the
 consensus of the discussion so far. Unless there are overriding
 concerns I plan to NMU this patch in the context of the bug-squashing
 party over the weekend.

You should have contact me before working on this. I am preparing a
release of 2.5.28.1 which should close this bug. Right now, the release
is still standing in the svn of pkg-ocaml-maint but it is not buildable
since liblablgtk2-ocaml-dev is not instalable.

I am leaving for 1 week and am planning to do a release on 2005/08/15.

I know i take a lot of time but the release to come should close 30
bugs...

FYI, i have followed the consensus and i think the correction is near
your patch.

Please have a look at :
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-ocaml-maint/trunk/packages/mldonkey/trunk/debian/?rev=0sc=0

You should find all the debian files of the next release.

If you think i miss something in my correction, send my an email.

Regard
Sylvain Le Gall

a bunch of differing build libs on Ubuntu, but are there any plans to
update the version in Debian?

 Your package is missing a build dependency on ssl-dev, resulting
 in the following error:

 epoch.c:14:24: error: openssl/bn.h: No such file or directory

For licensing reasons, the build dependency should be one of the

Bug#321403: 8139too network driver won't work with my card (it did with 2.6.8)

2005-08-05 Thread Csillag Kristof
Package: kernel-source-2.6.11
Version: 2.6.11-7
Severity: important

Hi there!

When I tried to upgrade my kernel from 2.6.8 to 2.6.11,
I was shocked to see that my Ethernet card stopped working.

I am using the standard Debian kernel sources to build my own kernels.

I tested kernel-source-2.6.10, and (because kernel-source-2.6.9 is no longer
in Debian) the vanilla linux-2.6.9 from kernel.org, and neither of them worked.

So it seems the thing broke from 2.6.8 to 2.6.9.

  * * *

My card is: (lspci output on 2.6.8)

:00:0e.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)

The 2.6.8 kernel says this, then loading the driver:

8139too Fast Ethernet driver 0.9.27
eth0: RealTek RTL8139 at 0xe281c000, 00:20:18:8d:3d:40, IRQ 10
eth0:  Identified 8139 chip type 'RTL-8139B'

With, 2.6.11, at first it seems to be OK, too:

eth0: RealTek RTL8139 at 0xe2a38000, 00:20:18:8d:3d:40, IRQ 10
eth0:  Identified 8139 chip type 'RTL-8139B'
eth0: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0x41E1

...but when I try to send out data, it says:

NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out
eth0: Transmit timeout, status 0c 0005 c07f media 00.
eth0: Tx queue start entry 4 dirty entry 0.
eth0: Tx descriptor 0 is 0008a156. (queue head)
eth0:  Tx descriptor 1 is 0008a156.
eth0:  Tx descriptor 2 is 0008a156.
eth0:  Tx descriptor 3 is 0008a156.
eth0: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0x41E1

   * * *

Since until this is resolved, I am stucked to 2.6.8, I am very eager to help you
debugging this. Please tell me how can I help you to fix this.

I tried compiling it, and it worked for me, when I used gcc-3.3, and
with gcc-4.0 too.
Note that I compiled net-tools-1.60-15 (from the unstable src distro).
But I compiled it on etch (testing) distro.
So I guess the bug isn't in the net-tools package itself, but in the
if_fddi.h, maybe in the way net-tools includes it, but I was unable to
reproduce this bug.
What kernel-headers package are you using. Because I was unable to
locate the word 'gen' in my kernel-headers.
Please post a copy of your /usr/include/linux/if_fddi.h

 You seem to have some stuff in HOMETEXMF, but much
 of the configuration files in /etc/texmf. This might cause some
 confusion.

This was necessary for teTeX 2 because it did not search for map and

 What is actually the output of

 is it in HOMETEXMF, and is it the right one?

Sorry, I don't know if this is the right one. How can I figure out
which one is the right one? There is another one in
/root/.texmf-var/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap/pdftex.map. It's quite
confusing for me. I was really happy to have all my fonts working
and I do not understand why it does not work anymore. To have
working fonts again (at least on one machine) I made a subtle
decision yesterday: I made a backup of my laptop (also running
Sarge) and installed Ubuntu Hoary. Now I'm going to install teTeX
3.0 by hand and then I will install all of my fonts there again. So
we still can use my desktop to find the cause for the problems and I
can compile my LaTeX files on my laptop (at the latest tonight, I
hope) ...

Best regards,
Christoph

 Hi,

 Can you update zope2.7 towards version 2.7.7.
 This version is required for Plone 2.1.

I've already prepared the package [1], which is ready to be
uploaded into experimental.

I'm just waiting for main maintainer acknowledge.

After zope2.7 (= 2.7.7) will be accepted by ftp-master, I'll
upload the new Plone2.1 package.

Hi,

It seems you forgot to add graphical wine configuration tool (winecfg) into
debian and freedesktop menu (add a .desktop file into /usr/share/applications )
I'm attaching gzipped winecfg.desktop file to this bugreport.

Also you forgot to call an update-desktop-database in wine's package
postinst - because of this .exe files aren't asociated with wine after
installing wine package :(

Please don't follow up to completely unrelated bugs.

Current ls produces non-standard sort order. There is no switch
provided to change to original behaviour!

This is dependent on your locale. Set the environment variable
LC_COLLATE to C if you want an ASCII sort rather than a dictionary sort.

For the files a b c d e A B C D E, ls produces:
a A b B c C d D e D
but should produce:
A B C D E a b c d e

No, it should do what it's doing.

Bug#321094: tetex-bin: Usage of some fonts fails

2005-08-05 Thread Frank Küster
Christoph Bier [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 You seem to have some stuff in HOMETEXMF, but much
 of the configuration files in /etc/texmf. This might cause some
 confusion.

 This was necessary for teTeX 2 because it did not search for map and
 enc files in HOMETEXMF. Might this really confuse teTeX 3.0 now? I
 always installed the font files according to Walter's instructions
 for teTeX 2. And now some work, some don't ...

I don't know whether it confuses teTeX 3.0, it's just one piece that
contributes to the puzzle... What could in fact cause confusion is if
you *now* use both upmap and updmap-sys, creating different information
in TEXMFVAR and TEXMFSYSVAR.

 What is actually the output of

 kpsewhich --progname=pdflatex pdftex.map

 /var/lib/texmf/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap/pdftex.map

 is it in HOMETEXMF, and is it the right one?

 Sorry, I don't know if this is the right one. How can I figure out
 which one is the right one? There is another one in
 /root/.texmf-var/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap/pdftex.map. It's quite
 confusing for me.

This is bug #294197, this time not for ls-R but for .texmf-var. I was
under the illusion that we patched updmap sufficiently to prevent it
from doing this...

So
 we still can use my desktop to find the cause for the problems and I
 can compile my LaTeX files on my laptop (at the latest tonight, I
 hope) ...

That sounds like a good approach. Additionally, since

 Sorry, I'm helpless.

 :-(

I suggest that you also ask on de.comp.text.tex or similar for help;
especially when there are also some problems with the manually installed
teTeX-3.0.

Bug#321411: unison: option '-fastcheck true' has no effect

2005-08-05 Thread Andreas Hartmann
Package: unison
Version: 2.9.1-2sarge2
Severity: normal

I use unison with the option '-fastcheck true' to synchronize two local
vfat partitions, each filled with about 60GB of data. Comparison takes
around 3:30 hours while the actual copy/delete is done within a few minutes.
It seems that unison still reads every byte of every file to determine
changes, or how else could it take so long?

Bug#321410: Launcher (freedesktop menu item) from xwine sources isn't included in debian packages :(

2005-08-05 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Package: xwine
Severity: normal

Hi,

It seems you forgot to add a freedesktop menu item (a xwine.desktop file
into /usr/share/applications ) from xwine sources to debian packages.

I'm attaching gzipped xwine.desktop file to this bugreport, because
original file from xwine sources menu folder doesn't have Categories
line and Lithuanian translations :) I've already sent updated file to upstream.

Bug#321064: Clearing of passwords does not happen

2005-08-05 Thread Martin Samuelsson
Samuel Mimram @ 2005-08-04 (Thursday), 19:12 (+0200)
 In the preferences dialog under the SIP tab there is a button to:
 Clear all stored authentication information
 However, when using it nothing happens. All information is still present
 in ~/.gnome2/linphone
 Clicking the same dialog twice results in a crash.

 Thanks for the report. I did not manage to make linphone crash by clicking
 twice. Could you give me a gdb stack
 trace?

I'm providing one below. Although I don't know if it has enough information.
Please let me know if there's anything else I should do.

Thanks,

Bug#321252: ITP: cl-lw-compat -- LispWorks Compatibility Library

2005-08-05 Thread René van Bevern
On 4.08.05, Peter Van Eynde wrote:

Hi Peter,

 * Package name: cl-lw-compat
   Version : 0.2
   Upstream Author : Pascal Costanza

Currently, lw-compat is provided by the cl-aspectl package. Pascal
Constanza provided it in the upstream tarball of AspectL. I have
changed cl-aspectl so that it does not install lw-compat files,
because lw-compat and AspectL are now seperated upstream.

I've tagged my cl-aspectl repository 0.6.5-2, so if you upload
cl-lw-compat I'd like you to sponsor an upload for an updated
cl-aspectl as well.

You can just upload the current state of the cl-aspectl repository[1],
built against the orig.tar.gz of ftp.debian.org.

Thanks. :)

Bug#321414: Speed tweak for '/etc/hotplug/isapnp.rc' : replace cat FOO* | while read BAR with for version

2005-08-05 Thread A Costa
Package: hotplug
Version: 0.0.20040329-25
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Attached is a patch for '/etc/hotplug/isapnp.rc'. To make the code line
up better I put in about a dozen indentations, that may make it seem
very busy, but it's simpler than it looks. Here's a diff without any
cosmetic whitespace, only three lines changed:

% diff -w /etc/hotplug/isapnp.rc /tmp/isapnp.rc
28,29c28,29
 cat /sys/bus/pnp/devices/*/id \
 | while read PNPID; do
---
 for PNPDEVFILE in /sys/bus/pnp/devices/*/id   ; do# loop
through PNP device names
   while read PNPID; do
54a55
 done $PNPDEVFILE# like cat FOO* | while read BAR, but
faster

Note: the variable name $PNPDEVFILE is arbitrary, and can safely be
renamed to something more appropriate.

How it works; the old loop did it this way:

% cat /sys/bus/pnp/devices/*/id | while read F ; do echo $F ; done
PNP0c01
PNP0c02
{ ...etc...}
PNP0303

...the 'for ... | while' version does this:

% for f in /sys/bus/pnp/devices/*/id ; do while read F ; do echo $F ; done
 $f ; done
PNP0c01
PNP0c02
{ ...etc...}
PNP0303

The code's a little longer, but 4x faster because it stays in the shell --
on my system anyway. A quick benchmark:

% N=`seq 1` # run it 10,000 times
% time for n in $N ; do cat /sys/bus/pnp/devices/*/id | while read F ;
do : ; done ;done
real1m4.128s
user0m18.254s
sys 0m43.230s
% time for n in $N ; do for f in /sys/bus/pnp/devices/*/id ; do while
read F ; do : ; done  $f ; donedone
real0m22.051s
user0m14.614s
sys 0m6.989s

Hope this helps...
