Bug#322671: libfwbuilder: rebuild needed for C++ ABI transition (NMU patch attached)
Package: libfwbuilder Version: 2.0.7-1 Severity: serious Tags: patch Hi Jeremy, Under the 0-day NMU policy for the C++ ABI transition, I have prepared an NMU for libfwbuilder, because this library provides C++ interfaces and must be rebuilt so that a number of other C++-based packages can transition to g++ 4.0. Horms wrote: There is no public CVE assignment for this issue. If's it easily reproducable for non-root, it might account as a local DoS vulnerability. mii-tool's IOCTL is only allowed by root. So it's exploitable via SNMP if the exploiter has access to the SNMP tree in question. (Which is not the default, if I recall correctly?) I'll have a look next week when I come back from holiday. Salut, Thanks for checking your debian bugs while you're on vacation. :-) You're probably right. On the other hand the crash clearly occurs in userland, so I'd guess that the driver for my cam does not support something that camstream expects, which causes an empty list to exist in the memory where camstream expects some data to be present, so Id guess that there's something wrong in the code, which probably does not show up with your hardware. If's it easily reproducable for non-root, it might account as a local DoS vulnerability. mii-tool's IOCTL is only allowed by root. The remote DoS comes from the fact that snmpd will call this IOCTL when it gets a request for the interface statistics. So it's exploitable via SNMP if the exploiter has access to the SNMP tree in question. (Which is not the default, if I recall correctly?) However, this means that cricket will bone the machine during the boot process, or soon after. I think thats a strong enough reason to tag it as a security fix, and thus include it in a kernel security update. Hi Horms, this is now CAN-2005-2548. Can you please add it to the changelog? Bug#322684: nip2 unuseable because of optimization bug in led.c
Package: nip2 Version: 7.10.10-2 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Dear Jay, the current package crashes whenever an image or workspace is loaded. I downloaded the current CVS version of vips and nip2 (nip2-7.11.1) and verified the problem there (gcc 4.0.2 20050806); it occurs in led.c:107, within gdk_pixmap_create_from_xpm_d (gdb says in strlen there). I first skipped led_realize completely and got a working nip2; then I found that compiling led.c with optimization -O (or none) instead of -O2 also yields a working nip2. Therefore, not gdk_pixmap_create_from_xpm_d appears at fault but it's obviously a gcc data initialization optimization bug. Bug#321052: NMU diff for several mpich bugs; please ack or nack
Okay, lessons learned etc., here's a sugggestion: Since it's been less than 24 hours since the NMU was accepted, I propose that if I can get the new 1.2.7 package done by 8 PM EDT tonight (midnight GMT), that I just use the same package names in 1.2.5.3-6.1. This should not cause too much trouble, since the NMU will have been the official unstable release for only 36 hours. Also, the addition of F90 into the official libmpich(-mpd)1.0c2 should not be an issue, and removal of slog will only cause problems if significant numbers of people build with MPE against 1.2.5.3-6.1, which I don't suspect will be the case. Adeodato, it would help me if you could forward information on which developers contacted you requiring mpich to move forward for their packages; I can in turn contact them and ask them to hold off on uploads until testing their builds with 1.2.7. How does this sound? If I can't get it done by tonight, I'll find a use library package name to reflect the change. -Adam -- GPG fingerprint: D54D 1AEE B11C CE9B A02B C5DD 526F 01E8 564E E4B6 Welcome to the best software in the world today cafe! http://www.take6.com/albums/greatesthits.html -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Hi, as long as usbmount is in place to execute vol_id, the I/O errors occur again. With until I plug it in again I referred to the fact the device isn't readable anymore after vol_id ran. The flash drive can be accessed normally when usbmount / vol_id is disabled, so I guess the problem is something that vol_id does but mount does not. I did not try to format the drive so far. This is why I'm contacting you, Thomas: Although according to the CHANGES file we should have xpdf-3.00 just as the xpdf package has, but at least one file (which should be patched) is missing in the teTeX sources. Now I'm wondering which changes you have made to the upstream sources, and whether they were on purpose; and whether this makes teTeX non-vulnerable, or requires a different patch to fix the vulnerability. xpdf/xpdf/SplashOutputDev.cc is the file that does not exist. I tried to find code fragments that match the parts the patch removes, or the lines before and after, but they don't occur in the sources in tetex-bin. TIA, Frank -- Frank Küster Inst. f. Good I can't understand (2). /var/lib/ocaml/md5sums/ is a directory and several ocaml related packages install stuff under that directory. I can understand if the directory is no longer there when some postrm scripts are executed (and I fixed the faulty behaviour of ocaml-md5sums in that case), but I can't understand how it comes /var/lib/ocaml/md5sums is something else than a directory. Have you toch-ed it trying to fix the postrm problem (like you did a few lines below in your report)? Yes. I tried several things before I filed the bug, so I did not start out with a clean system. Thanks. Do you have any idea what exactly usbmount / vol_id is trying to mount. Package: kernel-patch-2.6-reiser4 Version: 20050715-1 Severity: minor Hello Ed Boraas, Domenico Andreoli and others, Problem: The reiser4 patch from Debian::testing does not support the 2.6 kernel from Debian::testing (package kernel-source-2.6.8, version 2.6.8-16). Is it convenient for other users of Debian::testing when the reiser4-patch package supports kernel 2.6.8? Is it possible and not too difficult to support this kernel version? (I can imagine that tracking to which Debian version different reiser4-patches have propagated and changing the reiser4-patches whenever they enter a new Debian version, is too much work.) Solutions: 1: (Not tested, if needed i can test it. But someone with more knowledge of kernel-patch-2.6-reiser4 than i have, might imediaty see if this will work.) - Add reiser4-*-2.6.8.patch.gz to /usr/src/kernel-patches/diffs/reiser4/ - Edit /usr/src/kernel-patches/all/apply/reiser4 change KVERSIONS and PATCHFILES to include the new files. 2: (For other users who like to have reiser4 with a 2.6.8 kernel from debian.) Bug#284428: cdbs: allow use of kde.mk without DEB_BUILDDIR set
kde.mk automatically sets DEB_BUILDDIR = obj-$(DEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE). But some packages do not build cleanly with a separate build directory. Unfortunately, it is apparently not possible to unset DEB_BUILDDIR before or after including kde.mk. Therefore, I have to resolve to locally hacked copies of kde.mk. It would be nice if using kde.mk without DEB_BUILDDIR set were possible. This also meant that you can't use tarball.mk with kde.mk since tarball.mk sets DEB_BUILDDIR. Bug#315708: Additional information
Le mercredi 10 août 2005 à 23:23 -0500, Manoj Srivastava a écrit : Hi, postgresql packages installed are shown below. These work with libdbd-pg-perl_1.32-2_i386. Now, if version 1.42-2 can't work with postgresql 7.x, why does it not conflict with that version? Or depend on the newer version of postgres? Because several postgresql can now be installed concurrently ! libdbd-pg-perl 1.42-2 depends on libpq4 and that's enough, there's no reason for me to conflict with anything. The description of libpq4 says: | This version of libpq is compatible with servers from PostgreSQL 8.0 | or later. Furthermore your script uses the TCP/IP access | #our $greylist_dbname = 'DBI:Pg:database=mimedefang'; | our $greylist_dbname = 'DBI:Pg:database=mimedefang;host=localhost;port=5432;'; instead of the traditional Unix socket. I suppose that's because the Unix socket doesn't work ! And if it didn't work, it may have been on purpose : to avoid using the lib with the socket corresponding to the old postgresql ! I'm ccing Martin Pitt to have his input on this problem. Martin, do you confirm that using libpq4 with older PostgreSQL is asking for troubles ? Manoj, I suggest that you switch to PostgreSQL 8.0. I do not intend to provide several versions of libdbp-pg-perl to support several PostgreSQL. I'm going to follow the latest stable PostgreSQL as usual. I may document this situation in the README.Debian however. Regards, -- Raphaël Hertzog Premier livre français sur Debian GNU/Linux : http://www.ouaza.com/livre/admin-debian/

What is acpi generic hotkey support? Note that Apple PowerBooks don't use ACPI and that the fn key is not a hotkey but just another modifier key. Bug#290964: unregister_netdevice: waiting for ... to become free
can you still reproduce this bug with newer linux kernel images, like the linux image 2.6.12? I haven't tested it since I figured out the reason and patched 2.6.10. The fix is originally by someone else and for 2.6.9, I just changed a couple of characters to make it apply cleanly to 2.6.10. Assuming this patch made it to 2.6.1[12], they should be fine. I'll check the status next time I happen to compile a new kernel for my laptop - if it isn't broken, don't fix it... Would love to supply a patch but I'm a bit lost when looking at /usr/sbin/mkinitrd... Yes, its pretty scary, isn't it. I had a bit of a poke around and basically there seem to be two problems. 1. Its detecting your root device as /dev/i2o/hda2 wheras it is /dev/i2o/hda1 This should be easy enough to track down. Unless you have something special going on, mkinird determines the the root device parsing /etc/fstab The attached script get_root_dev, is the relevant code from mkinird, broken out into something a bit more paletable. Could you try running that 2. Secondly, and more importantly, mkinitrd does not support i2o-RAID. Hopefully this is easy enough to fix, though the day we replace initrd with something else will be a wonderful day indeed. In the meantime, could you give let me know what the major device numbers for /dev/i2o/hda* are. And what kernel modules need to be loaded for i2o-RAID to work. Bug#321785: fakeroot: segfaults on [hppa]
The buildd in question is currently running a 2.4.26-64 kernel. Cool (I didn't thought that there was still systems running 2.4) In fact while simply rebuilding a kernel (as root, without fakeroot), I also observe a segfault with 2.6.8 and 2.6.10 (on c110 and d380) but panicing 2.6.12 (on the same c110 and d380) as well as 2.6.13-rc6 on d380 and b2k. Fwiw with kernel 2.6.11.12, the rebuild runs fine on this same d380 and b2k. Well, there have certainly been various and sundry known kernel issues on hppa, but this seems wholly unrelated to them. That's confusing me: is there actualy a pb in libc or do we need some constraint to install this new libc? glibc seems to be the one thing that's changed; running make manually with a copy of glibc 2.3.2 in the chroot works just fine. What character set are you using in jpilot? UTF: Latin 1, Western Europe (CP1252) Do you also have the problem with other accented letters? Just trying a few of the ones I might use: the á und ú went without a problem, if I use a ś the name and the note get cut from thereon. If I try to type a ḿ I just get a beep and it does nothing. That seems to be better behaviour. There are a few other letters I could try but I don't have my keymap for x configured in such a way that I can easily produce them. It's not that I couldn't live without these letters, the palm doesn't seem to know them anyway, just an error message would be better than crashing or strange behaviour. Thanks Mukunda
Bug#322674: 1.33.0 released

Then the SONAME would stay the same and things would break. Ok, it's an unofficial package, but still. right. why don't we use a different source package? it is the cleanest solution, isn't? also the s in the static library name is not a problem, we would provide a symlink to it anyway (as we already do for other boost libraries). Why is the s there and not in the other libraries? And the reason I am complaining is because I can't use $(release_suffix) in the debian/rules file of libboost but would have to write my own magic. don't know. If you can help, I'd appreciate it. Or do you not need a patch from me at all? a patch always helps but i could ignore it, if i don't like it :) Attached is what I have. ok. in the meanwhile i didn't resist and downloaded 1.33.0. i want to upload it :) the major info i need is how to get the logging library sources, if they are not in the 1.33.0 tarball (which i still have not downloaded and probably won't do today. i have other work to do :/ ). is http://www.torjo.com/code/logging.zip the unofficial download link? Yes, that's the link. but there is no date, release or anything alse we can use to track changes!! The attached patch against the boost source package adds it and fixes some problems in the logging library's source, which I have already sent upstream. i see this as a confirm that it needs a source package on its own. There's a mess in debian/rules. But I gave up for now. Hope the other stuff still helps. the file *is* a little messy :( i recently gathered new knowledge on make conditionals and variable managemente, maybe i'm able to improve things.
