Bug#329008: Every once-in a while an upgrade involving perl uninstalls perl-doc
Package: perl Version: 5.8.7-4 Severity: normal Every once in a while an upgrade of perl unistalls perl-doc. This really annoys me. From my point of view I'd either package them onto one package, or completely disconnect them, or I don't care, but this is very annoying. 1. I don't know why every packager requires the very bleeding edge of things for his package instead of real dependencies. With this custom, there is no point to use a package manager that knows about versions. 2. But because this is done in all debian packages with no reason, if one installs a package that depends on perl in sid, it will most probably, almost surely upgrade perl. 3. And remove perl-doc. 4. Bug#329009: can rubber handle auxiliary tex files like it does for eps ?
Package: rubber Version: 1.0-1 Severity: wishlist Hello. Is-it possible to add a module that does the same than the graphics module for auxilliary tex file ? Bug#323889: gedit: fails to display print previews
Hi, Could you please try running gedit from a terminal and check whether it outputs any warning? When I input the first character into gedit, either an alphabet or a Japanese character, gedit produces the following warning: (gedit:x): Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text() But it does not output any warning for inputting the subsequent characters. And when the print preview is activated, gedit outputs: (gedit:x): GnomePrintCupsPlugin-WARNING **: iconv does not support ppd character encoding: ISOLatin1, trying CSISOLatin1 Do other apps behave similarly? For example does the Epiphany web browser permit printing? The other gnome apps work fine, as for print preview. Maybe you miss some fonts packages? I have installed many fonts, and I'm just using Sans/Monospace for print preview. Thanks, Masaki Oita [EMAIL PROTECTED] Loïc Minier wrote: tags 323889 + unreproducible moreinfo thanks Hi, On ven, aoû 19, 2005, Masaki Oita wrote: When I tried to see a print preview of any document, gedit just displayed only with a horizontal line (maybe which divides headers and bodies) on a blank page. Bug#327762: yaird: includes (unnecessary?) psmouse module in generated image.
On Sun, Sep 11, 2005 at 09:16:42PM -0300, Diego Essaya wrote: I may be wrong, but I think that the 'psmouse' module is unnecessary. In fact, I don't have a PS/2 mouse (I have a USB one). The 'evdev' and 'mousedev' modules may be unnecessary as well... In the meantime 0.0.11 is published, which makes it easier to play with what modules are used. Look at /usr/lib/yaird/conf/Default.cfg, but beware that this is not yet marked as a configuration file, so any changes made there will be overwritten by a new release. You can specify an alternative config file on the command line. The cause: yaird looks for keyboard devices in /proc/bus/input/devices, finds /sys/class/input/event0, with a link to the underlying hardware: /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1. Then we load required modules for the hardware. Platform? Nothing special. i8042? Just the i8042 module. Serio1? Hmmm, could be a psmouse, could be atkbd; lets load both. This is ugly: the fact that serio does not have the nicely coordinated vendor/product codes you find in USB or PCI devices makes it difficult to do good detection. Could we use 'driver' link in .../serio1 to find the appropriate device driver? Only if (a) the driver has same name in running and new kernel, and (b) driver is modular in running kernel. Not reliable enough. Note that older kernels ( 2.6.10?) don't have the device link in /sys/class/input/event0, in which case some fallback logic in yaird becomes active: if /proc/bus/input/devices talks about keyboard, it's probably atkbd. The psmouse stuff doesn't happen in this case. For 0.0.12, I plan to look at 'softrepeat' and 'resolution' files in serioX sysfs directory; this distinguishes nicely between atkbd and psmouse device, and it should break *visibly* for exotic stuff like newton kbd, which is an improvement over the current approach of load atkbd and hope for the best. Regarding evdev and mousedev: you don't need these to boot the system, but if mouse or keyboard is loaded from initramfs rather than /etc/init.d, you no longer can assume evdev and mousedev get sucked in as a side-effect, and they are probably needed: evdev is what allows yaird to find the keyboard, mousedev is expected by X-Windows. It would probably be more straightforward to load them from /etc/modules, but that would require manual intervention by the sysadm: the system no longer works out of the box for common configurations. Lets not do that. Erik -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#316388: mutt/2072: Requires GPG_TTY to be set in order to accept
Number: 2072 Notify-List:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Category: mutt Synopsis: Requires GPG_TTY to be set in order to accept Confidential: no Severity: normal Priority: medium Responsible:mutt-dev State: open Keywords: Class: sw-bug Submitter-Id: net Arrival-Date: Sun Sep 18 22:05:10 +0200 2005 Originator: Joey Hess Release: Organization: Environment: Description: Hello, this is about Debian Bug#316388, in which Joey Hess (CC'ed) argues that Mutt should not be requiring GPG_TTY to be set in order to accept using gnupg-agent. I think he has a point; I will now explain what I understand the current situation is, and how I think it could be improved. Marco d'Itri wrote: On Jun 30, Joey Hess [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: gpg-agent 1.9.15-6 does not set a GPG_TTY variable. I tried setting this variable and mutt began using the agent properly. I understand that this is a feature. Feel free to argue against it with the upstream developers. current versions of gpg and pinentry work perfectly well, even at the console, without GPG_TTY being set. gpg falls back to using ttyname() and other methods to get the tty to pass to pinentry. Yes, this paragraph is true. If you invoke gpg at the console without GPG_TTY set, it'll figure out there's a tty involved and will tell pinentry that; so it'll work. However, this is not the case if it's Mutt who invokes gpg, since then the stdin, stdout, and stderr of the gpg process will be pipes, and gpg will not be able to figure out there's a tty involved; so it'll fail. Obviously, when in X11 and using pinentry-qt or pinentry-gtk, the above does not apply. So, we have that: (a) either at the console, or in X11 but with gnupg-agent configured to use pinentry-curses, it is _required_ that GPG_TTY is set for gpg calls to succeed, and Mutt takes care of enforcing that. (b) when in X11 with gnupg-agent configured to use a pinentry-x11, GPG_TTY is not needed at all, yet Mutt does require it. The current behavior of the code with respect to this is to just always (*) require GPG_TTY to be set, but this is not documented at all. (*) Of course, it's impossible for Mutt to distinguish beteween (a) and (b). * * * _If_ we accept Joey's point that Mutt has no business enforcing the presence of GPG_TTY, since there are cases when it is not needed, I see two possible solutions (with #2 being my prefered option, since it just makes things work): 1. remove the check for GPG_TTY, and add to the documentation of $pgp_use_gpg_agent that some pinentry agents will need it to work. Attached gpg_tty.patch1 which does this. 2. remove the check for GPG_TTY, and make the pgp_use_gpg_agent function add it to the environment if it's not present. Attached gpg_tty.patch2 does this, which I'm considering adding to the Debian package (though I'd welcome comments first). Bug#318101: not believed to be vulnerable
Micah, Thanks for detecting this; however, I don't think systemimager-ssh is vulnerable. systemimager-ssh includes its own copy of zlib because of a dependency in the ssh binary it builds. These binaries are downloaded by a client system and used to set up a tunnel to the server. The ssh commands used are pre-determined, and do not enable compression. I audited the ssh source, and every use of zlib that I can find is conditional upon the compression option. Therefore I don't believe systemimager-ssh should be considered vulnerable to vulnerabilities in zlib. Unfortunately, compression is not a build-time option for openssh, so it would be somewhat invasive to remove the unused zlib library. -- dann frazier [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#329018: azureus: please don't hard-code startSocket port
Package: azureus Version: 2.3.0.4-3 Severity: wishlist On multi-user operating systems, it would make sense to run one azureus instance/user. The current implementation, which always checks port 6880 for a running instance, only allows one instance/machine. (Unless -DMULTI_INSTANCE=true is given, in which case a new instance is started every time.) Current behavior: If I am running azureus on my uid, and my roommate (who is logged in on the same computer) tries to start one, azureus tries to feed his arguments to my instance instead. (I'm not sure if it works, but it's not what I want anyway.) Wanted behavior: If no azureus instance is running with the users uid, an instance is started. If an instance already exists with the users uid, args are passed to it. Proposed solution 1 (quick): Add a setting for which port to check and use for the StartSocket. Proposed solution 2 (good, but perhaps platform dependent): Check ports within some (hard coded) range for a running instance with the same uid as the starting instance. Start a new instance if none is found. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12-1-k7 Locale: LANG=sv_SE, LC_CTYPE=sv_SE (charmap=ISO-8859-1) (ignored: LC_ALL set to sv_SE.ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages azureus depends on: ii kaffe-pthreads [ja 2:1.1.5-cvs20050808-2 A POSIX threads enabled version of ii libcommons-cli-jav 1.0-7 API for working with the command l ii liblog4j1.2-java 1.2.9-1 Logging library for java ii libseda-java 3.0-2 the Staged Event-Driven Architectu ii libswt-gtk-3.1-jav 3.1-2 Standard Widget Toolkit for GTK Ja ii sun-j2sdk1.5 [java 1.5.0+update04Java(TM) 2 SDK, Standard Edition, Versions of packages azureus recommends: ii java-package 0.26 utility for building Java(TM) 2 re -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#328837: very old package, should this be removed?
I no longer use the software either and it is no longer maintained upstream. I agree with removal of the package, What should happen now? I've done this now and your package showed up on the list. I propose to remove it. The package has not many users and there are some alternatives (worklog, wmwork) available. This usually means that your package matched some of the following criteria: [1] Your packages has not had a maintainer upload for more than three years. [2] has one or more RC bugs with no answer from the maintainer (**) [3] the state of your packages in general seems to indicate that you might be MIA [4] (if we propose a removal) it shows in popcon as having less than 100 users with the package installed. [5] the package was not released with sarge and at least ([1] and ( [2] or [3] or [4] or [5] )) was true. (**) The maintainer not answering to RC bugs refers to bugs filed more than one month before the time the check was performed. After 7 days without answer from you (the maintainer) we will reassign this bug to either WNPP (in case we propose to orphan it) or ftp.debian.org (in case we propose to remove it). The package will need an upload or an explanation for this action not to proceed. Please do *not* upload a package just to get off this list - it won't help the package at all. Maintainers should be responsive and feel responsible for their packages without needing other people to force them to do work. Sometimes, finding a new maintainer or even removing the package completly from the archive is better for Debian's users. Thanks! Since I sent in the bug, I have managed to invoke XMMS as a plug-in in Konqueror by clicking on the listen button on various Shoutcast streams. XMMS takes about 1 to 2 minutes to automatically connect to the shoutcast server at which point it plays normally provided one does not click on the play button in the XMMS skin. If play is clicked, XMMS shuts down. Bug report # 191536 on XMMS mentioned XMMS freezing when play is clicked. So far, all I have tested is XMMS on streaming audio. Haven't tried it on a cd yet or playlists. Might be just a quirk of 64 bit sarge installation. Trying out Debian for the first time on a new machine so still learning the ropes. Bug#328990: wxwindows2.4: FTBFS on m68k due to -O3
Hi, Shouldn't this be a bug against the m68k toolchain? Unless something in wxPython changed that I am not aware of, it has always done this (and not been a problem) previously, no? I'm not wholly against patching this package in the name of pragmatism, especially if a release were otherwise immediately pending, but since it is not, shouldn't we aim this at the real problem first? Please feel free to reassign it if you agree that is the case. Otherwise, someone will need to convince me that this does not have an adverse affect on all the other platforms. Bug#329042: shared-mime-info: OpenOffice.org Calc file detection errors
Package: shared-mime-info Version: 0.16-3 Severity: normal OK, I know OpenOffice.org Calc files are zip files, but the MIME database should not treat them as zip files because then desktop environments like GNOME try to open them as such using applications like file-roller. If other OpenOffice.org files that are zip files also are not registered as so in the database, then Calc files should not either. Note this bug only affects files for OpenOffice.org version 1.x and not OpenOffice.org v2.x files (Oasis format). Just removing the sub-class-of type=application/zip/ statement on the /usr/share/mime/packages/freedesktop.org.xml file and running update-mime-database /usr/share/mime/packages solves the problem, this file type is not asociated to file-roller anymore on GNOME, as it should have been since the beginning. Another problem I find is that application/sun.vnd.xml.calc.template files are first shown with the default icon. After I click on one of them on Nautilus it gets the SXC icon and MIME type as if it was an OpenOffice.org Calc file and not an OpenOffice.org Calc template file.
