Bug#344503: Icon build failure on arm due to gcc-4.0 regression
Package: gcc-4.0 Version: 4.0.2-5 Severity: important Hi, The latest upload of icon (9.4.2-2.4) has failed to build on arm with the current gcc-4.0 in sid (4.0.2-5). After some investigation I've found that this is gcc-4.0 fault, and the build failures start with the version 4.0.1-7 (4.0.1-6 builds the same source fine). Also, 4.0.1-7 works fine if I change the optimization level from -O2 to -O0. Since the failure is happening when the tests are run, it is pretty tricky to tell what's wrong by looking at it with gdb (and the fact that the .c source files for icon are generated from some kind of the pseudocode in .r files does not help too much either). AFAICT it segfaults when trying to dereference a pointer which has been defined and has a valid value in the function, but at some point gdb starts reporting it as value optimized away and the code gets a NULL when trying to dereference it. Please let me know if you need more details and I'll try to dig into it. I can confirm the problem with the CUPS printer. The printer properties are listed there, including my paper setting of iso-A4. But when I try to print to file with it, firefox 1.5 complains, saying There was a problem printing because the paper size you specified is not supported by your printer. The same goes for Postscript/default. The Xprint printers are, however, working for me. That is, I can print to them using iso-A4 paper. I'm not seeing the glibc crash that Henrique reported. Bug#333099: please support xprint if it is installed
In Sarge's mozilla-browser, (in the File-Print dialog) I am able to select from a long list of printers while in mozilla-firefox there is only one option, Postscript/Default (or print-to-file). But why should mozilla-browser and mozilla-firefox be inconsistent about xprint support? Firefox does support Xprint, when, as you noticed in your patch, XPSERVERLIST is defined. Do you mean that on your system XPSERVERLIST is not defined? It should be defined when the X session starts up, due to /etc/X11/Xsession.d/92xprint-xpserverlist. Is this script not being invoked for you? Which X login manager do you use (gdm, xdm) ? Whether firefox should check XPSERVERLIST explicitly itself as done in your patch, or whether it should leave it up to the X session (the normal situation), as a question for Eric to decide :) Drew -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. On Thu, Dec 15, 2005 at 10:05:20PM +0100, Sylvain Beucler wrote: Any progress on this issue? -- Sylvain = Package: cvs Version: 1:1.12.9-13 Severity: important The fact PamAuth is enabled by default looks like a security risk: When I import a repository from a non-Debian system, configured with SystemAuth=no, I expect CVS not to fall back to the system for authentication. But since PamAuth is enabled by default, and was not available on the non-Debian system (so I am likely not to know about this parameter, which is incidentally rejected by non-Debian versions of CVS), then CVS actually does that fallback. The default value should be the same than SystemAuth; and only if PamAuth is explicitely specified should CVS take its value into account. I disagree on the default config here. Many applications on a Debian system will use PAM for auth and user info by default, so I don't see a reason for CVS to be different. Bug#314461: This bug again...
Ok, i've hit again this bug. with sarge r1 there's also a samba upgrade; so i've upgrade samba, and on two heavyly used server after some hours, on a low-used server after two days, i've got the same panic message. Again, after that, all work as expected, no trouble at all. So, at least for me, this bug seems reproducible. ;) -- dott. Bug#303635: New description
Description of package has been improved: KildClient is a MUD Client written with the GTK+ windowing toolkit. It supports many common features of other clients, such as triggers, gags, aliases, macros, timers, and much more. But its main feature is the built-in Perl interpreter. You can at any moment execute Perl statements and functions to do things much more powerful than simply sending text the the mud. Perl statements can also be run, for example, as the action of a trigger, allowing you to do complex things. Some built-in functions of KildClient allow interaction with the world, such as sending commands to it. KildClient's ANSI support is extensive: it supports not only the common 16 colors, but also support underlined text (singly and doubly), text in italics, text striked through, reverse video and hidden text. It also supports vt100's line-drawing characters, and xterm's escape sequences for a 256-color mode. All these features make KildClient one of the clients with the most features for displaying the mud output. Kildclient supports the MCCP (Mud Client Compression Protocol) protocol, versions 1 and 2, to reduce the necessary bandwidth. Homepage: http://kildclient.sf.net -- Star Trek Lives! Bug#337619: Simple solution
Hi all, I am using ieee80211-source 1.1.6-2 ipw2200-source 1.0.8-1 linux-source-2.6.14 2.6.14-5 Building the modules ieee80211 and ipw2200 with module-assistant goes well, in particular ipw2200 is linked against /usr/include/ieee80211/net/ieee80211.h (provided by ieee80211-source) rather than its kernel counterpart. The problem only occurs at load time because # head -6 /lib/modules/2.6.14/modules.dep /lib/modules/2.6.14/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt_tkip.ko: /lib/modules/2.6.14/kernel/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt.ko /lib/modules/2.6.14/kernel/lib/crc32.ko /lib/modules/2.6.14/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt_ccmp.ko: /lib/modules/2.6.14/kernel/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt.ko /lib/modules/2.6.14/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt_wep.ko: /lib/modules/2.6.14/kernel/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt.ko /lib/modules/2.6.14/kernel/lib/crc32.ko /lib/modules/2.6.14/net/ieee80211/ieee80211.ko: /lib/modules/2.6.14/kernel/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt.ko /lib/modules/2.6.14/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt.ko /lib/modules/2.6.14/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt.ko: /lib/modules/2.6.14/drivers/net/wireless/ipw2200.ko: /lib/modules/2.6.14/net/ieee80211/ieee80211.ko /lib/modules/2.6.14/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt.ko /lib/modules/2.6.14/kernel/drivers/base/firmware_class.ko /lib/modules/2.6.14/kernel/net/ieee80211/ieee80211.ko /lib/modules/2.6.14/kernel/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt.ko the last two entries of the modules.dep line shown above wrongly instruct modprobe to insert the kernel version of ieee80211 rather than the one installed by the ieee80211 module (which only comes after in load order, which is from right to left). Note that in contrast, for ieee80211 related modules, the modules.dep entries are correct (ie. we load those build from ieee80211-source rather than the kernel ones). Waiting for the real bug fix, the problem may be fixed 1) by manually inserting ieee80211 before loading ipw2200 (eg. put ieee80211 in /etc/modules); 2) [dirty] by editing the modules.dep file to remove /lib/modules/2.6.14/kernel/net/ieee80211/ieee80211.ko and /lib/modules/2.6.14/kernel/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt.ko in the /lib/modules/2.6.14/drivers/net/wireless/ipw2200.ko entry. For instance, using the second method gives you this # modprobe -v ipw2200 insmod /lib/modules/2.6.14/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt.ko insmod /lib/modules/2.6.14/net/ieee80211/ieee80211.ko insmod /lib/modules/2.6.14/drivers/net/wireless/ipw2200.ko disable=1 instead of that # modprobe -v ipw2200 insmod /lib/modules/2.6.14/kernel/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt.ko insmod /lib/modules/2.6.14/kernel/net/ieee80211/ieee80211.ko insmod /lib/modules/2.6.14/drivers/net/wireless/ipw2200.ko disable=1 FATAL: Error inserting ipw2200(/lib/modules/2.6.14/drivers/net/wireless/ipw220 0.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg) Hope this helps. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#344474: cedar-backup2: Package documentation in distinct packages
Le jeudi 22 décembre 2005 à 19:34 -0600, Kenneth Pronovici a écrit : Package: cedar-backup2 Version: 2.7.1-1 Severity: wishlist I noticed the documentation is available both as PDF (compressed as .gz) and html. Please do not package both in the same packages. The various manual formats serve different purposes. While the HTML manual is good for online browsing, the PDF manual is best for printing. I think it does serve a worthwhile purpose to include both. As an alternative, I might consider splitting the documentation into a separate package. However, it doesn't seem like debian-devel has come to a consensus on how large documentation must be (either in absolute terms or relative to the remainder of the package) before it should be split off. Do you have any thoughts on this? I was thinking about: autogenerating the documentation from sources (as it seems to be DocBook, it should be doable). And then, ship the documentation as separate package, mostly because it is bigger (wrt to disk space) than the program itself. But, it seems that to include the pictures in the PDF version (I read that in the sources, in doc/docbook.txt), you need the Jimi Java library, which is non-free, see: http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2003/11/msg00106.html And btw, I'm sure that shipping the PDF with the pictures is not DFSG-compliant. I did not look at it, but is it? KEN

Bug#339806: Problems with db2latex and current TeX distributions: \pdfoutput
Dear maintainers of db2latex, db2latex does not work properly with teTeX 3.0 (released in February this year and included in many operating system distributions now) and TeXLive 2005 (released this fall): It always produces PDF instead of DVI files. The reason is that these TeX distributions use pdfetex as the engine behind latex *and* pdflatex, pdfetex can produce DVI and PDF output. But the tests in db2latex that try to detect whether PDF or DVI output were buggy from the beginning (although not invented by you, for sure), and now fail: They test whether \pdfoutput is *defined*, and assume PDF output if yes, while in pdfitex it is always defined, but set to 0 if DVI output is wanted. Even worse, the LaTeX files created by db2latex *set* \pdfoutput to 1 if they find that it is defined, and therefore always produce PDF files. This problem makes db2latex unusable in Debian (and many other distributions), and breaks out automatic building of package documentation in some cases. Therefore we need a fix rather quickly, and would be glad if you would implement this: The maintainers of the package within Debian are very busy currently, and I'm only the teTeX maintainer who doesn't know anything about sgml or xml or whatever language db2latex uses. What I can tell you is how LaTeX files produced by db2latex should look like, there is an easy and a thorough solution: - the easy one is to load ifpdf.sty with \usepackage{ifpdf}, and use the conditional \ifpdf % code for PDF output \else % code for DVI output \fi (the else branch can be left out, \fi is mandatory) - the thorough one would be to check whether such a discrimination is needed at all. For example, such a check is frequently used for hyperref, but in fact this package has output format tests built in and does not need to be called with an output driver option except in very special cases. If you want to go that way, feel free to ask me on debian-tetex-maint@lists.debian.org which of your checks is necessary. Many thanks in advance, Frank -- Frank Küster Inst. f. Biochemie der Univ. Bug#344373: spampd - autolearn fails
Hi! Bernd: If you have the time to do so, you could also do the modification Maxim outlines below locally (on /usr/sbin/spampd) and check wether it avoids reading the /root/* stuff. If you do so, please let me know. I want to change line 862 of spampd-2.30: -$assassin-compile_now(); +$assassin-compile_now(0); it doesn't read root's configuration fles anymore, but it still tries to use the byes database and auto-whitelist and so on. Isn't there a way to override spamassassins default settings in spampd? Of course, you can configure all these things in the global configuration, but I think this makes using spampd unnecessarily complicated for unexperienced users. Here comes an idea I had while reading torugh the manpage: - create a directory with a little config for spamassassin which first includes the normal /etc/spamassassin files (and - don'tknow if neccessary - configurethe right path for autolearn/bayes/) - tell spamassassin to use the config path from above But this is just theory and I won't have the time to test this before January 2nd - I'm off for christmas holidays - (un?)fortunately to a place without internet. [I'm adding the bug report to keep this discussion public] Paul Fox @ 2005-12-22 (Thursday), 23:59 (-0500) Debian users, please have a look at http://bugs.debian.org/287223 if you feel like reviewing and improving it. does your script work if someplace contains spaces? can /etc/network/interfaces deal with that syntax? a quick look at your diff makes me think that it won't. The problem here is that ifupdown does not allow spaces in interface names. If one needs to connect to SSIDs containing spaces, one could either use its BSSID or a mapping script. One could argue a mapping script should always be used, but I like the simplicity of having wpasupplicant just working after installing it. -- /Martin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. With sbuild the reason for the failed tests is $SIG{'HUP'} = 'IGNORE'; in /usr/bin/sbuild. Tests 21 and 23 test that the process gets killed if timeout occurs. The actual killing signal is sent in Proc::Background::Unix::_die(), which tries 5 times each of the signals HUP, QUIT, INT, and KILL, sleeping 1 second between each try. Since the tests have a timeout of 4, the _die() function is still trying the HUP signal when ALRM is received. I can't see any reference to HUP in pbuilder, so I have no idea what causes it there. Bug#287223: wpa_cli event handling
does your script work if someplace contains spaces? can /etc/network/interfaces deal with that syntax? a quick look at your diff makes me think that it won't. The problem here is that ifupdown does not allow spaces in interface names. If one needs to connect to SSIDs containing spaces, one could either use its BSSID or a mapping script. One could argue a mapping script should always be used, but I like the simplicity of having wpasupplicant just working after installing it. but only just works for you. :-) one solution is to do something like that done by iwgetid --scheme, which compresses out all non-alphanumerics from the SSID, so that it can be used for purposes such as this. i suspect this could be done quite simply in your script by a small sed or tr command. but this only works for known nets -- not for the corner coffee shop, whose SSID you don't know in advance. another, possibly more complete solution, would be for wpa_supplicant to allow configuring an id string along with the network when it is described in wpa_supplicant.conf. this identity (which could default to the SSID) would be passed to the wpa_cli as an argument along with the connect/disconnect event. the identity string, since it would be specified by the user in the wpa_supplicant config, is guaranteed to be useful in a simple ifup management script such as yours. (i.e., the id i specified in my wpa_supplicant.conf file whould match a mapping name in /etc/network/interfaces. it would be the key that links the two config files.) paul =- paul fox, [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. It was strange to discover that... simply there's no libldap2.2-dev package!!! The same openldap italian guy speak about timings problem in 2.1 fixed in subsequent release, and my trouble (bugs 314461) seems exactly a timing problem. So, my explicit question: why there's no libldap2.2-dev package? Well, there's at least a request in #332693 Steve, as your feets are in both sides, do you think we should reassign #314461 to openldap2 and merge with #332693 ? No. 314461 is a bug report about a specific crash scenario, which may or may not be fixed by migrating to the newer version of libldap. It may not be a bug in LDAP at all; there really ought to be some investigation into the reason for this crash. Or something else (after all #314461 depends on #332693) ? There's nothing in the bug log that tells us this. I'll be happy to ask for re-testing once we've migrated to a newer libldap, but that won't happen until the gnutls patch is forward-ported to openldap2.2 so we can ship a GPL-compatible library. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. I'm not very familiar with the current eclipse options as some of them might be missing in the man page too so consider this as a sort of reminder to update the manual page. Bug#344527: rsibreak - lists mailing list as uploader in changelog
Package: rsibreak Version: 0.4.0-1 Severity: important rsibreak lists a mailing list as uploader in the changelog. The policy specifies: | 4.4 Debian changelog: debian/changelog [...] | The maintainer name and email address used in the changelog should be | the details of the person uploading this version. They are not | necessarily those of the usual package maintainer. The information here | will be copied to the Changed-By field in the .changes file (see | Changed-By, Section 5.6.4), and then later used to send an | acknowledgement when the upload has been installed. and | 5.6.4 Changed-By | | The name and email address of the person who changed the said package. | Usually the name of the maintainer.
