Bug#365971: doesn't support generating valid xhml
Package: libhtml-scrubber-perl Version: 0.08-2 Severity: normal HTML::Scrubber seems to have no support for generating valid XHTML 1.0 Strict. It converts invoming valid hr / to hr. Bug#237100: New French translation update
Hello, The recent release that changed some templates did NOT include the French translation I sent in this bug report. Even though it would have been broken by these templates changes, it is way better to apply pending translation updates *anyway*. The very low bug number for this updates makes me think that debconf translation updates like this one are more or less rotting in the BTS. This is unfortunate for the efforts of translators. BTW, the templates of this package are still incredibly verbose with most of the information really pertaining to README files... -- fr.po Description: application/gettext signature.asc Description: Digital signature

So your assessment is that there's no bug here? What way did you do it first that was wrong, btw? On Thu, May 04, 2006 at 10:15:29AM +0800, Haifeng Chen wrote: The installation is not clean. The workaround is, after upgrade, to run apt-get install --reinstall -o DPkg::Options::=--force-confmiss x11-common to restore the missing /etc/X11/Xsession file. This bug will only affect upgrades within unstable; it will not affect users who are still running testing, so technically this is not release-critical (it doesn't need to be fixed before xorg is updated in testing), but it's still rather nasty... -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#365973: ifupdown: preinst and postinst both create interfaces if it doesn't exist
Package: ifupdown Version: 0.6.7 Severity: normal I think that only one of the preinst and postinst scripts should create /etc/network/interfaces. Specifically, preinst should not create it. Or if it does, move the code from the postinst to the preinst (so the created file will have a stanza for lo). This isn't normally a problem, because debian-installer's netcfg writes /etc/network/interfaces itself, and FAI munges it too... I ran into this while hacking my FAI scripts to only write /etc/network/interfaces if it didn't exist, which is where the version created by the pre/postinst scripts comes in. I found it confusing, so I'm reporting a bug... happy hacking, Peter Cordes -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Simple fix - upload emacs21-bin-common 21.4a-3.1 for i386 and other arches. Which, as documented in the merged bugs, was not possible because one of emacs21's build-dependencies was broken. It's been fixed now in xaw3dg-dev 1.5+E-14, so fixed emacs21 packages should begin dripping into incoming.debian.org in a couple of hours. Well, I'm afraid I have to reopen this bug. It turns out that it was never really an xaw3dg bug at all: emacs21 build-depends only on xaw3dg-dev, but expects to find X11/Xaw/Paned.h, which has never been shipped by xaw3dg-dev but only incidentally dragged in by a (wrong) dependency on libxaw7-dev. Perhaps xaw3dg-dev should actually be installing its own headers as X11/Xaw/*, I don't know; but in practice this is not the interface that Xaw3d provides, upstream or in Debian, so emacs21 needs to either include X11/Xaw3d/* instead of X11/Xaw/, or build-depend on libxaw7-dev. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#365982: gnome-terminal: display is messed up in new tabs
Package: gnome-terminal Version: 2.14.1-1 Severity: normal Hi, I've experienced an annoying bug with gnome-terminal since ~ 2.14.0. When I open a new tab, applications that do fullscreen display (like less, mutt,...) are not properly displayed, see a screenshot at: http://arch.pybliographer.org/~fred/gnome-terminal-bug.png This is easily fixed by resizing the window, but will rehappen for every new tab. Note that this only happens when the terminal has been resized after its opening. It looks as if the new tab believes it still has the size of the initial window, before resizing. (I'm pretty sure it must have been reported somewhere else, but I could not find a report. sorry if this is a duplicate) Frédéric -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-1-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages gnome-terminal depends on: ii gnome-control-center 1:2.12.3-2 utilities to configure the GNOME d ii gnome-terminal-data 2.14.1-1 Data files for the GNOME terminal ii libatk1.0-0 1.11.3-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbonobo2-0 2.14.0-1 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libc6 2.3.6-7GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgconf2-4 2.14.0-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii libglade2-0 1:2.5.1-2 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.10.2-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome2-0 2.14.1-1 The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomeui-0 2.14.1-1 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-02.14.0-2 GNOME virtual file-system (runtime ii libgtk2.0-0 2.8.16-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii liborbit2 1:2.14.0-1 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0-0 1.12.1-2 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpopt0 1.7-5 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libstartup-notification0 0.8-1 library for program launch feedbac ii libvte4 1:0.12.0-2 Terminal emulator widget for GTK+ ii libx11-6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-6 X Window System protocol client li ii libxrender1 1:0.9.0.2-1X Rendering Extension client libra ii scrollkeeper 0.3.14-10.1A free electronic cataloging syste Versions of packages gnome-terminal recommends: ii yelp 2.12.2-4 Help browser for GNOME 2 -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Package: xfonts-base Version: 1:1.0.0-3 Severity: minor I'm not sure if this is the right place to report this, and it's probably a known issue, but I couldn't find any mention of it. With the X transition, font directories under /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts are not being removed because they still have fonts.dir, etc in them. Is there a plan for removing those files and thus the containing directories when there are no fonts left? severity 365804 serious tags 365804 -pending thanks Hi Dirk, On Wed, May 03, 2006 at 06:26:28AM -0500, Dirk Eddelbuettel wrote: It will work fine once the R version that is currently in unstable migrates to testing -- presumably in two or three days as it has passed 8 out 10 days of the required waiting period. However, because r-cran-rodbc's dependency on r-base-core (= 2.0.0) is also satisfied by r-base-core 2.1.0-1 in sarge, which I don't imagine is any more compatible with r-cran-rodbc 1.1.6-2 than 2.2.1-6 is, this breaks partial upgrades from stable, which is still an RC bug. If r-cran-rodbc 1.1.6-2 needs r-base-core 2.3, then it needs to depend on it explicitly so that installing r-cran-rodbc from etch on a sarge system doesn't give you a broken package. The converse is also true; if the new r-base-core is incompatible with old versions of r-cran-rodbc, then r-base-core should conflict with those old versions... BTW, r-base isn't actually very close to getting into testing. $ grep-excuses r-base r-base (2.2.1-6 to 2.3.0-1) Maintainer: Dirk Eddelbuettel Too young, only 9 of 10 days old out of date on hppa: r-base-core, r-mathlib (from 2.2.1.svn37779-1) Not considered [...] $ It needs to build successfully on hppa first. Bug#218105: License problems in teTeX: a release blocker?
Hi release team, hi James, I wanted to inform you about license problems with teTeX, and ask for your input. This bug might become a release blocker for etch, or not. teTeX is a compilation of individual works with individual licenses, and at the moment the licenses of the individual parts are not listed in debian/copyright, or anywhere else. Here are the facts: Good news: We have finally set up an infrastructure that allows to keep track of license information of individual CTAN packages and even individual files, and create a proper debian/copyright file. Bad news: - Before this bug can be resolved, one needs to go through each individual package and check its license and the list of files covered. I have actually started doing that work, it is slowly but continuously progressing, but we have still *a*lot* of work to do. - In the small part I have already checked, I have found a considerable number of files with unclear licenses (in other words, probably intended to be free but not properly indicated) and some that are actually non-free. - I expect that in the remaining part, things will be similar. In other words, I expect non-free or unclearly licensed files in teTeX, which makes this bug release-critical. - Even if I continue to work as I do now, I don't know when this will be finished. And since my professional work situation might change in the second half of this year, I might even be forced to do less. There are some more points to consider additionally: - Debian probably can't release without TeX: even if it could be dropped as a dependency, replacing it as a build-dependency would be as hard work as resolving that bug. - TeXlive, which could serve as an alternative, suffers from the same problems (and profits from the same work and infrastructure) - teTeX in sarge has the very same problems. I don't expect any problems with the files added since then, because both CTAN package authors and teTeX upstream have been much more license-aware in the last years than in the old days. This means that Debian stable wouldn't get any better by not releasing etch because of this bug; but I don't know whether this warrants etch-ignore - I actually do not expect that we get any real legal problems. The files in question are and have been distributed so widely and for so long that *distributabilty* cannot realistically be denied by anyone. The problems are actually only questions of DFSG-freeness. I intend to ask for help on this bug as soon as the scripts used have been properly documented, be it release-critical for etch or not. But I wanted to make you aware of that problem early. Regards, Frank P.S. Many thanks, James, for filing that bug, really. I would never have imagined the mess teTeX actually is license-wise, and I'm learning a lot about internal workings of a TeX distribution that way. -- Frank Küster Single Molecule Spectroscopy, Protein Folding @ Inst. f. Package: cynthiune.app Version: 0.9.5-1 Severity: serious Justification: no longer builds from source The cynthiune.app package in unstable build-depends unconditionally on libavifile-0.7-dev. avifile is an architecture-specific package that will probably never be available on architectures other than x86 and x86_64 (i386 and amd64), because many of the plugins it builds depend on Windows DLLS for operation. OK, the error occurs only with untrusted X11 forwarding. This is not a bug, but the error message is bad, as it doesn't explain anything, so that the user doesn't know how to solve the problem. Worse, he may think that there is a bug in geximon. Indeed the error is currently: The program 'geximon' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'. [...] The second sentence should probably be replaced by something like: If the program is started remotely by SSH, then this could mean that you are using untrusted X11 forwarding. You need to use ssh -Y or add ForwardX11Trusted yes to your ssh_config. Otherwise this probably reflects a bug in the program. Bug#353981: Remove MySQL support (Closes: #353981, #304613)
Le Jeudi 04 Mai 2006 09:51, [EMAIL PROTECTED] a écrit : Hello, Hi, I must say, I find very deceptive the way you fixed this bug by removing mysql support :( I gave you all the infos to correct this and you didn't. You just had to read Mysql 5 documentation to understand how to solve it, and you choosed a lamer's way ! Bravo ! You may want to know a little more than you do about rdbms support in TUTOS and the way it evolved in the BRANCH-2-0. This project began with support for as many rdbm as you want to support, the way it is usually done : the written (generated) SQL command can be sent by using any protocol/library, then the resultset is parsed and its format is adapted for further usage. The problem with this way of supporting several RDBM is that the written request is written once for all of them, hence for example if you support MySQL (previous its version 5) you then can't write any subqueries in your SQL. When I was paid to develop TUTOS 2 branch, we made the choice to only support PostgreSQL, our RDBM of choice. And I wrote some complex queries involving a syntax MySQL wouldn't be able to understand. The MySQL support in TUTOS was from there broken, but I forgot to mark this in the debian package. Our way to resolve the debian bug was to effectively mark tutos as being a PostgreSQL only project, a decision taken two years ago. Hoping this answer will help you understand the choices, regards, -- Dimitri Fontaine http://dim.tapoueh.org pgpYzmNOx2QYO.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#365967: x11-common: unnecessary use of pre-depends (354146)
severity 365967 grave merge 365967 365988 thanks Ok, let's go ahead and bump this severity and merge with 365988 et al., because the fix for this is the exact same: x11-common should *not* depend on xfree86-common, *at all*, and there *definitely* shouldn't be any manual twiddling of /etc/X11/Xsession on upgrade. The deal is that the earlier error reported in 354146 was a *file* conflict error, which could only happen in a version of x11-common that did not Conflicts: xfree86-common. Since x11-common now Conflicts with xfree86-common, xfree86-common is correctly removed first, then x11-common is unpacked and takes over the config file, with conffile prompts only when necessary. So I believe the correct action here is to simply revert the xfree86-common package and related pre-dependency. There is probably some additional clean-up that could be done here, because there are still orphaned xfree86-common config files in /etc/X11/Xsession.d which duplicate the x11-common versions of these config files; however, the current xfree86-common package doesn't do anything with these anyway because it has its purge block in the postinst (!), so this shouldn't block getting this more urgent upgrade problem fixed. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#361995: Issue not fixed
ons, 03,.05.2006 kl. 16.10 +0200, skrev Benjamin Mesing: I cannot confirm that the issue is fixed. I've tried to create a new address book today, and encountered the same problem of only creating an alias for the last existing one. Deleting the alias, also deleted the content for the original address book. Is the fix supposed to work only for clean installations (i.e. those that did not encounter those problem before)? I'm not sure if it was supposed to work for clean installations or not. We can try to find out. Just to be sure, can you paste the content of the output file after dpkg -l evolution* installed-evolution-pkgs? Also, make sure you've restarted evolution-data-server since upgrade (either restart or do evolution --force-shutdown and check that all e-d-s-processes are stopped). Can you also provide the output of gconftool -a /apps/evolution/addressbook? You can send it to me in private if you don't want it posted. -Øystein Gisnås
Bug#365898: libnasl2: [CVE-2006-2093] remote nessusd DoS
On Wed, May 03, 2006 at 05:37:47PM +0200, Martin Pitt wrote: Recently, an advisory about a remote nessus DoS has been published. Yes, I was aware of this bug and followed the discussion (both at bugtraq and in the Nessus mailing list) See [1] for details. This is supposedly fixed upstream in 2.2.8. Calling this bug a remote nessus DoS is really an overstatement. Quite sincerely, Ubuntu's advisory is really misleading when it says: (...) a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause the Nessus daemon to crash. The DoS can only be executed by: - a local user with root privileges (needs to store a NASL script in some of the NASL directories that Nessus loads) - a remote *authenticated* user if the administrator has allowed users to upload plugins to the server ( 'plugin_upload = yes' in nessusd.conf). This is something that is disabled per default in the Debian package. Moreover, plugins need to be cryptographically signed in order to be loaded into the server (unless the admin has set 'nasl_no_signature_check = yes' in nessusd.conf which, agains, defaults to 'no'). For an immediate fix, and for the sake of fixing Sarge you might find the Ubuntu patch [2] useful. Thanks for the patch. I don't think this merits a DSA but will contact the Security Team for input. This bug is still present in the daily image from 5/3/06 (closed bug 865859) The crash occurs even when there is no usb device present. The console log of an attempt to install the image to the same Xserve G5 box from an external firewire drive ended in the following: . . . requesting IPIs ... However, the two Xserves are the same model, purchased at the same time and exist as part of the same Xserve cluster. The only difference between the two machines is that the USB ports in this one have been used, whereas the USB ports in the box from Bug#365844 have never been touched. Note also that this box and all it's ports work fine under Mac OS X Comparing the console log of Bug#365844 shows a difference that seems odd. In Bug#365844, the detection of the pmu is represented with 'via-pmu: Server Mode is enabled'. The box on which the install crashes instead shows 'via-pmu: Server Mode is disabled'. There also differences in the reported size of nvram, although this may be normal. Clearly there is something different about the two boxes, despite the fact that they *should* be identical. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#362800: debian-installer: cd-rom installer requires online repository
Hi, Frans Pop say that this bug is done in images after 15/04/2006, but I burn the 3 *DVDs* of Debian Etch (17/04/2006) and I found the same problem: The installer work ONLY with internet conection (online repository is necessary!) I try use workarround available in ERRATA, but don't work in version of day 17/04/2006 (images DVD)... the oprion Ignore don't appear! This bug is done in *DVD* images of Debian Etch? I say taht because Debian Etch don't up my network card (Marvell Yukon) and I my internet conection is by network, so I thing that 11Gb available in 3 DVD is enough :-) Thanks, Renato S.
