Bug#377711: fail2ban: Add postfix rules

2006-07-12 Thread martin f krafft
also sprach Yaroslav Halchenko [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2006.07.12.0449 +0200]:
May be I got your comment wrong: are you suggesting to block all 5xx
 codes?

Maybe not all. But only 5xx codes, never 4xx ones.

Sender address rejected can be caused by 450 Domain not found...
 should not we use it?

If that happens, then it'll be a 4xx reject. Postfix will not
reject the sender if the domain lookup is a 450, I think.

And we better just block only limited set of 5xx since there are
 legitimate ones such as
552 Requested mail action aborted: exceeded storage allocation

Right.

Another point/question is: should I simply rely on codes or symbolic
 messages as well?
Most probably it would be better to rely on the codes instead of error
messages themselves since they can change...

So can the codes, and without extended error codes, it's not
possible to e.g. say what a 554 is.

Although Relay access denied seems to be used in reporting to
multiple error codes, so probably it would be useful to have the
 string

Yeah, exactly.

See above, but if you include 5xx it should be okay. Anyway, still,
just once again - do you mean include all of 5xx or just provide the
codes for already mentioned in the failregex?

Just make sure that any message that would cause fail2ban to block
an IP includes a 5xx and not a 4xx.

Bug#377948: TAG: Webmin -- A web-based administration interface for Unix systems.

2006-07-12 Thread Jamie Cameron
Package: wnpp
Severity: ITP

Webmin is a web-based interface for system administration for Unix. Using any
browser
that supports tables and forms (and Java for the File Manager module), you can
setup
user accounts, Apache, DNS, file sharing and so on.

Webmin consists of a simple web server, and a number of CGI programs which
directly
update system files like /etc/inetd.conf and /etc/passwd. The web server and
all CGI
programs are written in Perl version 5, and use no non-standard Perl modules.

A Debian package of Webmin is available from:
http://www.webmin.com/download/deb/webmin_1.290.deb

Webmin is distributed under a BSD license.

Bug#377897: am-utils: Your debconf templates do not follow the developers reference

2006-07-12 Thread Tim Cutts
Thank you very much for your comments - as it happens, I agree with
most of them. The templates file is very much as I inherited it when
I took over the package 18 months ago, I'd just never changed it
because I didn't want to cause the translators too much work. The
previous maintainer was not a native English speaker, which probably
explains some of the quirks.

You're right though - a lot of this needs attention, and I agree that
one or two of the questions are superfluous. I will look through
your suggestions in more detail, and make any modifications that I
agree with.

The following script's output you can save in a file.txt and then do
 $ firefox file.txt
to see the problem. Putting the output within TT or PRE in an HTML
file won't help either. Even though that is supposed to be monospace
according to HTML specs. Chinese is supposed to be double width, ASCII
single width. It's as simple as that.

Try changing your monospace font in the preferences to use a chinese one
instead of 'monospace'

Bug#377873: squid: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD

2006-07-12 Thread Petr Salinger

Hi.

I enabled kqueue and IP-Filter based on the assumption that kFreeBSD
had support for them.

It have been reasonable guess, unfortunately it does not (yet) works.

Is there any plan to include support for these features in the future?

kqueue is inside kernel, but currently there is no user interface
(header+library/wrapper around syscall) exposing it to userland.

Problem with IP filter is similar, (no headers)
also I am not sure which one should be used
- OpenBSD Packet Filter (PF)
- The IPFILTER (IPF) Firewall

Thanks for care about GNU/kFreeBSD.

it's not necessary.

Take a look at the dependencies of the libSDL-dev package: there are
all the development packages of the librarires that the libSDL package

Hello Jack,

 Fixes /etc/configtest.php

 `php configtest.php | html2text` is useful for diagnosing problems

We do not package configtest.php under /etc/squirrelmail but
under /usr/share/squirrelmail/src . That's on purpose: the script is
designed to be ran through the webserver and not on the command line.
Only in that case it runs in the same environment as SquirrelMail will,
and thus can accurately report about problems.

So, I'm not planning to apply your patch.

This looks like a bug I reported some time ago. I was never able to
reproduce it reliably so I closed it, but I have seen it crop up
  occasionally since then.

I've tried reproducing this bug by starting 2 ntpd's and things
like that, but was never able to reproduce it.

You marked this bug as found in 1:4.2.0a+stable-9? What is it
exactly that you found in this version? That you lose peers?
That there where 2 ntpd's running? Can you please explain a
 little more?

Both--two ntpd processes are running, but it is not the case that ntpd
was started twice. It seems that the daemon never finishes initialising:
ntp_initres seems to be part of the initialisation/daemonisation/forking
process. For some reason, this process never finishes, and so ntpd never
starts communicating with peers. Unfortunately I have never been able to
reproduce the bug in a debugger.

Hrmpf. Thanks for testing, though.

However, I am very grateful that you have tried this. Could you please
provide a little more details about how did you compile your dll? I'd
like to repeat your method and see if I can somehow get it working...
 Maybe not, I'm just interested.

apt-get install mingw32
cd OOo source/odk/source/unowinreg/win
i586-mingw32msvc-gcc -shared -I/usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/include -o unowinreg.dll
unowinreg.c -lkernel32 -ladvapi32
i586-mingw32msvc-strip unowinreg.dll

There's also i586-mingw32msvc-dlltool (see manpage) whose usage might
help, too, but I don't think it does since the file does contain no
export markup.

  libpq-dev, libldap2-dev

backport of this package, with some local customisation, but it'd be nice if
we could derive from the official package when updating it.

I think that modifying the build-dependencies for the package which is
uploaded for etch to include the sarge dependencies is not the right
thing to do. I know that it is improbable, but the auto-builders could
link the binaries to different versions of the libraries (eg.
libmysqlclient15-dev vs. libmysqlclient14-dev) and it is not a clean
 solution.

Last time I checked, sbuild implementation didn't know how to handle
alternate Build-Depends. IOW, in buildds, the trailing | libsnmp-dev is just
ignored during the build-dependency fetch.

Bug#368486: mod_dnssd and hostnames with only one component

2006-07-12 Thread Sam Morris
I altered the log message printed by mod_dnssd:

[Wed Jul 12 09:03:57 2006] [error] avahi_entry_group_add_service(name=Sam
Morris on xerces, host=xerces) failed: Invalid host name
[Wed Jul 12 09:03:57 2006] [error] avahi_entry_group_add_service(name=xerces,
host=xerces) failed: Invalid host name

It appears mod_dnssd specifies 'xerces' as the hostname, which the
avahi_is_valid_fqdn function rejects because it only contains one
component.

Lennart, would it be sensible to have mod_dnssd perform this test
itself, and if it fails, pass NULL to avahi_entry_group_add_service,
causing avahi itself to decide on the hostname to publish?

Bug#370403: status

to the debian-kde mailing-list this problem seems to be resolved in for

working on it ? Commenting out 'Listen /var/run/cups/cups.sock'
in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf does not help.

Bug#254113: Fix for Openoffice?

2006-07-12 Thread Jan Willem Stumpel
Openoffice is originally a Windows application which has somehow
been ported to Linux. So it probably uses the Windows method of
determining line spacing (see Fontforge FAQ, How do I set the
line spacing on a font?). This means using the OS2WinAscent and
OS2WinDescent values. In Times New Roman and Arial I found that
(in the .sfd version of the fonts):

OS2WinAscent value  = HheadAscent value;
OS2WinDescent value = negative of HheadDescent value.

So I tried this on the Freefonts also (by default, both values are
zero in the Freefonts). Success! No more crazy line spacing in
Openoffice. So far I have not found that this causes any problems
with real Linux programs like Mozilla or Abiword.

Of course a little bit more testing is needed, and a clear
explanation of why this works, but I think this is close to the
real solution.

Regards, Jan

I agree it'd be useful to have such links, and that they should be short

Simple 'Subscribe to this bug', 'Subscribe to this package' and 'Reply

and not clutter the page too much.

provide new-style classes for connection and cursor objects and other
sweet candies. Like the original, psycopg 2 was written with the aim of
being very small and fast, and stable as a rock.

psycopg is different from the other database adapter because it was
designed for heavily multi-threaded applications that create and destroy
lots of cursors and make a conspicuous number of concurrent INSERTs or
UPDATEs. psycopg 2 also provide full asycronous operations for the
really brave programmer.

psycopg is free software (free as in freedom but I like beer too.)
Licensing information is available in the LICENSE file.

Note: If there is already a package (which I failed to detect), please
notify me. In that case, I'd like to avoid duplicating the effort.

Two links I could not fix. I've left the word fixme there.
Florent could you have a look at the part for lmodern?

The file 0info092.txt.gz in LM 0.92 was exactly the same as README.
Therefore, the link now points to /usr/share/doc/lmodern/README.gz.

I looked at the other fixme (about the LaTeX Companion, 2nd edition).
Since I cannot find the book in the catalogue the old link points to, I
chose to replace the old link with the following one:

  http://www.latex-project.org/guides/books.html

There are the basic details about the book (picture, authors, ISBN and a
link to the book page on Addison-Wesley's website) plus sample chapters
and the errata in PDF format. Also, it is presumably vendor neutral and
in good hands (latex-project.org). Therefore, I think it is a good
replacement for the old link.

Thanks for your work, Hilmar. I committed all these changes to SVN.

Bug#377857: further observations with exim4-daemon-light

2006-07-12 Thread Chris Lightfoot
The problem does not appear to exhibit with
exim4-daemon-light, at least not after the 31 minutes of
testing I did. However, it definitely *does* exhibit if
you start exim4-daemon-light with,

LD_PRELOAD=/lib/libpthread.so.0 /usr/sbin/exim4 -bd -q30m

-- the stack trace suggests exactly the same problem,
though I don't have line numbers in this build:

#0 0x in ?? ()
#1 0x40023825 in __pthread_sighandler () from /lib/libpthread.so.0
#2 signal handler called
#3 0x4023f5d9 in __libc_sigaction () from /lib/libc.so.6

#6 0x0805b133 in daemon_go ()
#7 0x0806a598 in main ()

i.e., again consistent with there being some badness in
the interaction between -lpthread and the signal handling
code in exim.

successfully compiled the bug-free upstream source.

I just would like to know how I (Etch *user*) could
compile from the upstream source to get a working

Or could a friendly Debian Gnome maintainer update
balsa in Etch with an (N)MU ?

Bug#377958: ITP: strigiapplet -- KDE applet for Strigi Desktop Search

2006-07-12 Thread Fathi Boudra
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Fathi Boudra [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: strigiapplet
  Version : 0.3.2
Upstream Author : Jos van den Oever [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.vandenoever.info/software/strigi
* License : LGPL
Description: KDE applet for Strigi Desktop Search

Strigi applet is a KDE applet (client) for the Strigi Desktop Search software.

Strigi is a program for fast indexing and searching your personal data. It
can gather and index informations from files in the filesystem even if they
are hidden in emails or archives. It comes with a Qt4 GUI and an HTML GUI.
 Main features:
* very fast crawling
* very small memory footprint
* no hammering of the system
* pluggable backend, currently clucene and hyperestraier, sqlite3 and xapian
are in the works
* communication between daemon and search program over an abstract
interface, this is currently a simple socket but implementation of dbus is a
possibility. There's a small perl program in the code as an example of how
to query. This is so easy that any KDE app could implement this.
* simple interface for implementing plugins for extracting information. we'll
try to reuse the kat plugins, although native plugins will have a large
speed advantage
* calculation of sha1 for every file crawled (allows fast finding of
duplicates)

Bug#377897: am-utils: Your debconf templates do not follow the developers reference

2006-07-12 Thread Thomas Huriaux
Tim Cutts [EMAIL PROTECTED] (12/07/2006):
Thank you very much for your comments - as it happens, I agree with
most of them. The templates file is very much as I inherited it when
I took over the package 18 months ago, I'd just never changed it
because I didn't want to cause the translators too much work.

Sure, but translators will thank you if they have correct templates to
translate. That's much more easy for them :-)

If you want to keep up-to-date translations, do not hesitate to use the
podebconf-report-po tool to ask translators for updated translations
before publishing a new version of your templates.
To do this, fix your templates, include all the translations you have
in the BTS, run debconf-updatepo, use the podebconf-report-po tool, and
wait something like 10 days (as the review process may take some time)
for updated translations, and then publish your new package with the new
translations.

Cheers,

it builds fine without libasound2-dev installed.

I specifically made the switch to using libasound as sndfile-programs

Please, could you exclude linux specific package in Build-Depends
 by using libasound2-dev [!kfreebsd-i386 !kfreebsd-amd64 !hurd-i386].

If you could confirm that #350807 does NOT affect FreeBSD machines, then
I can do this. If not, I'll have to disable sndfile-programs on !linux.

However, I am very grateful that you have tried this. Could you please

 Maybe not, I'm just interested.

There's a (non-cross-compiling) FAQ for mingw/JNI here:
http://www.mingw.org/mingwfaq.shtml#faq-jni-dll

You could try with the extra -D_JNI_IMPLEMENTATION_ -Wl,--kill-at
arguments. The kill-at might be interesting because without it,
strings unowinreg.dll | grep RegOpenCurrentUser shows

and with --kill-at, the @12 was killed

Bug#377959: linux-image-2.6.17-1-686: abysmal disk throughput

2006-07-12 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: linux-image-2.6.17-1-686
Version: 2.6.17-2
Severity: important

Hello,

I have a severe problem running this kernel in that it brings my
computer to a crawl, compared to the 2.6.16-1-686-smp kernel I was
running before, and am running again until this problem is fixed. The
dmesg as created by the 2.6.16 kernel is included below, and you can see
that this machine should be reasonably fast (it is, under older 2.6.x
kernels). But actual performance looks like this:

Starting X (fvwm): some 5 minutes instead of some 10-20 seconds

baz commit, worth 1 revision and some 100KB data in some 10-15 small
files (ie, nothing): around 7 minutes instead of 5 seconds

Unpacking a small tarball (273 KB, psycopg 2.0.2): ~1 file per second

and so forth

In other words, this kernel makes the machine unusable for me.

This is the dmesg of the machine, as created by the 2.6.16 kernel I'm
running:

Bug#377964: cdbs should use the unversioned interpreter for the default python version

2006-07-12 Thread Matthias Klose
Package: cdbs
Version: 0.4.44
Severity: important

the interpreter is used by installation scripts to set the interpreter
name in scripts, leading to hash lines /usr/bin/python2.3, which
dh_python then turns into a python2.3 dependency. Please call the
unversioned interpreter for the default python version.

Bug#377966: apple2: Incorrect title in debconf template

2006-07-12 Thread Thomas Huriaux
Package: apple2
Severity: minor

Hi,

The short description of a note template should be considered as a
title. I would therefore rephrase
If you want sound the xapple2 binaries must run suid root.
with
Suid root needed to have sound

However, this template looks more like a debconf abuse. Pausing the
installation process to warn about a functionnality that is not the core
of the package is pointless.
This information probably belongs to the README.Debian file.

Cheers,

Hi,

since 20060517-1 bozohttpd cannot handle URLs with special characters

did work in 20050410-4 and stopped working in 20060517-1.

Bug#377962: xemacs21: The root info buffer is weird.

2006-07-12 Thread Sergei Organov
Package: xemacs21

after invoking M-x info, besides rather long time for main info page
to come up and a few warnings:

the ugly looking Info buffer appears that besides its ugliness doesn't
include, for example, anything from /usr/share/info/xemacs21:

Bug#377657: NMU: convert rpm to the updated Python policy

2006-07-12 Thread Anand Kumria
Hi Matthias,

Have you tested this with any software dependant on RPM or is this a
mechanical conversion?

I'm particularly concerned as alien, yum and a few other tools use rpm
(and in the case of yum, the python interfaace) and as far as I knew
this conversion would break things.

Anand

Bug#377961: aolserver4: Incorrect debconf templates

2006-07-12 Thread Thomas Huriaux

Hi,

There are different problems with your debconf templates. A full patch

Please remove this template, this is typical debconf abuse. It annoys
the user by pausing the installation process with a template that has no
added value for the configuration of the package. This information
belong partly to the package description, partly to the normal
documentation of the package.

Bug#377657: NMU: convert rpm to the updated Python policy

2006-07-12 Thread Matthias Klose
Anand Kumria writes:
 Hi Matthias,

Have you tested this with any software dependant on RPM or is this a
 mechanical conversion?

I'm particularly concerned as alien, yum and a few other tools use rpm
(and in the case of yum, the python interfaace) and as far as I knew
 this conversion would break things.

why should it break things? Of course package dependencies have to be
updated, if they are versioned.

Thats strange, changing samplerate works perfectly on my system.
There are several things you could do to help me find out what is
going wrong.

First, can you send me the output of the messages window, and the

You can also try to start jackd from the terminal:
jackd -d alsa -r 44100 and see if this works.

Bug#377972: sid-daily and gtk-miniiso on a pismo notebook (powerpc) - some of general remarks

2006-07-12 Thread Holger Levsen
package: installation-reports

Hi,

on Saturday, July 1st, we also tested d-i on pismo notebook (also know as g3
firewire see
http://www.apple-history.com/body.php?page=gallerymodel=pg3sfirewireperforma=offsort=dateorder=ASC),

The 20060630mini.iso gui-started, crashed, looped. (The mouse pointer also had
a square background.)

The 20060701 from wouter builds gui-started and froze, with video=ofonly
looped (similar to the 20060630mini.iso)

The daily build from 2006-06-30 non-gtk worked, and had a blue background
during installation :)

In configure network all network devices were detected, the wireless one is
labeled as 802.x, so it's recognizable (as opposed to the non recognizable
firewire ethernet...) - and it was selected automatically as no cable was
connected, nice!

Interestingly only the left alt-key (with the need for also using the
fn-button) worked to switch the consoles..., but after the installation all
is normal, that is both alt-keys are fine for switching consoles and the
fn-key is not needed.

Another thing that strangely only happend once (we had to restart many times
as the battery was empty and the power supply flaky...): during configure
harddisc a menu for pcmcia options pops up. This is slightly confusing,
because though the machine has pcmcia, there were no pcmcia cards used (and
therefore also no pcmcia harddrives in the machine.)

Then we were not asked if we wanted to create a normal user.

Also I noted that I didnt have to select a kernel to be installed, nice. With
the miboot-floppies i need to select a kernel for the final system.

The german select mirror templates are translated inconsistently: einen
Netzwerkspiegel verwenden and Land the Debian-Archiv-Spiegelservers.
(Besides that I'm still unconvinced that Netzwerkspiegel and Spiegelserver
are useful translations...)

From popularity-contest question on (til the end IIRC) there were localisation
issues: the titles of the text-boxes were not translated, the content was.

The laptop-task was preselected, yay - nice!

The download-progress bar is very nice too, but unfortunatly there is no
cancel button. (Which sucks, when you select the desktop task and are not
aware how much you need to download for this and dont have that much time at
the moment...)

The rest of the installation went fine, the system booted into linux. (I plan
to repeat this test with a macos9 and another one with a macosx installation,
which should be kept, as well.)

But the system time was set incorrectly to January 1st, 1904.

I will visit him again in the end of July or beginning of August, to repeat
these tests. Then I will also make sure to send the report immediatly, to
remember some details (like the exact symptoms/errors with the gtk-image)
better.

Holger

That would certainly be feasible. The question is whether this is worth

I'm working on it.

Note: the relevant code is in common.functions.in and therefore will
need to propagate to a lot of packages (tetex-base, -bin and -extra at

Bug#377971: sid-daily and gtk-miniiso on a iMac G5 (powerpc)

2006-07-12 Thread Holger Levsen
package: installation-reports

Hi,

on Saturday, July 1st, I tested d-i on an iMac G5
(http://www.apple-history.com/?page=gallerymodel=imac_g5performa=offsort=dateorder=ASC),

which has a PPC970FX cpu with 1.8 ghz. As the owner (he's a OSX fan...)
didn't really want to install linux on it, we went for stopping at the
partitioning step :-)

The gtk20060630mini.iso didn't had a install64 boot image, so it didnt boot.
Colin had daily build gtk images (also powerpc64 ones), it booted, but they
endlessly looped with a directfb error message.

So we then booted the daily build netinst from 2006-06-30 cd image with
install64. From the beginning the background screen was red, not blue.

The module usbkbd not found at the end of boot.

The network detection found 2 ethernet interfaces (wired ethernet and
firewire, wireless was not found (airport-extreme/bcm43xx only available in
=2.6.17)), but there was no indication which interface is which. (If there
is no bug for this already I would consider this as valuable to track and
fix.) This is a usability issue.

Also the user was surprised that all drives were labeled as scsi in partman,
while in reality they where sata (internal) and three external firewire.
Again, a usability issue - I guess this has been reported already?

There we stopped and rebooted. Surprisingly his custom boot logo (he replaced
the apple image which shows up right after powering on with something else)
was gone! I was (am still am) quite surprised about this data loss.

Bug#376525: libsndfile: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD (due to unsatisfied Build-Depends on libasound2-dev)

2006-07-12 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
Anand Kumria wrote:

I specifically made the switch to using libasound as sndfile-programs
did not work when using OSS (on Linux).

Thats not the full story.

The problem is that the OSS emulation in ALSA has an endian-ness
problem on PowerPC (and probably other BE systems). I've just looked
at this code again and maybe I can come up with a fix for it. If so,
I'll post the fix to bug #350807.

The real OSS on PowerPC works correctly, as does ALSA output using
ALSA.

If you could confirm that #350807 does NOT affect FreeBSD machines, then
 I can do this.

If FreeBSD uses real OSS then FreeBSD should be OK.

2006-07-12 Thread Thomas Huriaux
Package: apache
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Hi,

There are various problems with your debconf templates (see
http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/ch-best-pkging-practices.en.html#s-bpp-config-mgmt).

Full patches are attached, the list of mistakes is:
* badly formatted prompt for multiselect and string templates
* Use of first person
* badly formatted title for note templates

Cheers,

Bug#377984: xen-tools: a simple way to duplicate virtual machines

2006-07-12 Thread Clement Hermann (nodens)
Package: xen-tools
Version: 2.1-3
Severity: wishlist

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

I see that the xen-duplicate-image support is discontinued upstream.
However, it would be nice to be able to duplicate images easily (one can
copy the images or LVM and change the configuration, or archive an
existing image with tar and use the tar file option of
xen-create-image), but it means doing several steps for this operation.

xen-create-image with the appropriate option could verify that a machine
is stopped to prevent corruption, and use an existing image or lv as
source to create a new image with the correct networking configuration.

What do you think ?

Bug#350807: Possible solution to this problem

2006-07-12 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
Hi all,

Today's email re bug #376525 made me look at this bug again and do
a little research on the OSS ioctls. The following patch may fix the
issue.

Previously, I just set the bitwidth to 16 bits, without specifying
the endian-ness. My suspicion is that OSS and the ALSA behave slightly
differently when I just specify 16 bits.

To fix this issue, this patch, sets 16 bits with the endian-ness of
the host CPU.

I'll be testing this on my ancient banged up ibook as soon as I
get it up and running again. If anyone else wants to play with
this, please do.

Erik

Thanks for the information. As this file doesn't seem to be used
anywhere in Tikiwiki, I will simply remove it, along with a lot of other
unused code, in the next release.

Note that there's still a good job to do to get all the borrowed code
 properly acknowledged in debian/copyright.

I've included all copyright notices I could find, and checked for
obvious mistakes, but if you know any code that is borrowed and
suspicious then please let me know. Obviously I have to draw the line
somewhere and assume that upstream didn't just steal every line of code.

There's also IMO a huge job to do to get the copyright on all the
borrowed images.

I'll talk to upstream about it. Do you have reasons to suspect that some
images are borrowed?

Marcus

You could try with the extra -D_JNI_IMPLEMENTATION_ -Wl,--kill-at

Bug#377975: last-exit: Last Exit window shouldn't be resizable vertically

2006-07-12 Thread Tom Parker
Package: last-exit
Version: 1.0-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Currently, the Last Exit window can be resized vertically. As the
widgets don't move around to use this space, the net result is a big
blank space. Therefore, I think that vertical resizing for the window
should be disabled.

I've attached a patch to fix this, by calculating the required window
height, and using SetGeometryHints() to force the window to always be
the required height. It currently recalculates every time the cover
image is changed, as I've noticed that some cover images appear to make
the window fractionally larger.

Bug#377857: further observations with exim4-daemon-light

In my unstable chroot, this leads to a relocation error message:

 $ sudo env LD_PRELOAD=/lib/libpthread.so.0  /usr/sbin/exim4 -bd -q30m
 /usr/sbin/exim4: relocation error: /lib/libpthread.so.0: symbol _h_errno,
version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

odd. I don't have an unstable system here but I've asked a
friend who does, and he can't reproduce that error.
Anyway, probably the easiest thing to do is to force a
relink with -lpthread to see whether that makes any
difference.

Bug#377973: apsfilter: Obsolete transitional debconf template

Your debconf template is needed for transitions from versions 6.0.0

What about people who have ancient installations and finally found out an
upgrade is needed? ;^)

Bug#351385: RE : Re: balsa: 2.3.8 is buggy and obsolete in Etch

2006-07-12 Thread Loïc Minier
Hi,

On Wed, Jul 12, 2006, Pierre Morin wrote:
So this bug is fixed upstream for months and somebody
successfully compiled the bug-free upstream source.

Sadly, balsa isn't maintained these days and needs a new Debian
 maintainer.

I just would like to know how I (Etch *user*) could
compile from the upstream source to get a working
balsa. As a user, I don't know much about Debian
internals. Should I find somewhat balsa-2.3.8.deb.src
and balsa-2.3.12.src.tgz then merge or replace code
(how again ?) and run make or so ?

It could be trivial, but Debian maintainers usually put a lot of
efforts in reviewing new upstream releases to adapt the packaging and
check nothing goes wrong. In this case, what could appear between
upstream releases would mostly be new build requirements (higher
version of build dependencies, or new build dependencies).

There's a command to help Debian maintainers copy over the packaging
from one upstream version to another, it's called uupdate, and is
usually called from uscan (uscan checks for new upstream releases).

If you want, you can try to apt-get source balsa, cd in the
 versionned dir, and type uscan.

Typical build procedures then apply, see documentation.

Or could a friendly Debian Gnome maintainer update
balsa in Etch with an (N)MU ?

Well, I used to do this when the maintainer started to be missing, but
I'm too busy for now. Check if there's a bug requesting the new
upstream release, and if there isn't one, file one and wait.

   Bye,
