Of course. Actually, I did it several times. However, I'd like to make

And if the source vm has to be stopped, copying the image file is faster
and the stopped domU can be restarted sooner. I agree that a lvm
snapshot can be done to make things faster, though.

untar a previous tarfile of a disk image instead of using a network
 copy.)

Yep. I use that to copy real machine in domU : I tar everything (except
proc, sys and big log files) over ssh on my xen machine and create a new
domU with --tar. Many thanks for this particular option, it really helps :)

stop, Person B might wonder why the page starts with reassign

Ordering them alphabetically makes even less sense than someone's
guess at a useful order by grouping similar commands together.

Suggestions and/or patches with an improvement in order requested;
changing the order to alphabetical isn't an improvement, so marking
this wontfix.

[Even most manuals try to group related actions toghether; for the

Bug#378081: Cannot read V_BIOS memory allocation error

Only the AGP card seems to work with the 7.0 release. The individual
logs for all cards and each card, along with a lot of diagnostic
information, are available (for size reasons) at
http://neuroblastoma.omgwallhack.org/home/jrayhawk/xorgbugreport/

The 6.8 log is a Gentoo compile of x.org made for reference which works
much the same way (as far as I can see) as Debian's 6.8 releases did.
Gentoo's 6.9/7.0 packages exhibit the same broken behavior as seen here.

I can provide any further information if requested.

I am willing to give a trustworthy interested party root access to the
machine. Just provide a SSH key and I can get that set up.

Bug#378086: python-qt4-doc: simpletreemodel.py demo does not work on AMD64

2006-07-13 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Package: python-qt4-doc
Version: 4.0-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

While trying to run the itemview demos on an AMD64 computer I ran into a
problem: the
QModelIndex are built by passing the id() of a python object (which is a C long
integer) and
the Qt API requires an int. The value returned by index.internalId() is
truncated to an int,
and this value is used to make a lookup in a python dictionary which was built
using the
original 64bit value, and therefore we get a KeyError and the demo does not
work:

simpletreemodel$ python simpletreemodel.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
File simpletreemodel.py, line 119, in parent
childItem = self.object_dict[index.internalId()]
KeyError: -414219776L
Traceback (most recent call last):
File simpletreemodel.py, line 87, in data
item = self.object_dict[index.internalId()]
KeyError: -414219776L
snip

I tried to use index.internalPointer() which returns a reference on the python
instance being referenced by the model index. This works on i386, and segfaults
on AMD64. And
I am afraid that this can lead to strange things on i386 if the TreeItem is
garbage
collected.

I'm CC'ing this bug report the pykde mailing list, where people may have an
opinion on that
matter.

Bug#378085: fontforge: Generates random Super/Subscript values

2006-07-13 Thread Jan Willem Stumpel
Package: fontforge
Version: 0.0.20060430-1
Severity: normal

I edit a font (in this case FreeSerif.sfd) and select element - font info
 - OS/2 - sub/super. Click 'Default'. Some default values appear in the
boxes (like X=650 and Y=699). CLick OK, save the font. In the .sfd file, now
quite different (and mostly absurdly large) values appear:

OS2SubXSize: 21182
OS2SubYSize: 577
OS2SubXOff: 372
OS2SubYOff: 19672
OS2SupXSize: 7
OS2SupYSize: 4856
OS2SupXOff: -7672
OS2SupYOff: 17912

Even weirder, if I repeat this operation, many values are completely
different:

OS2SubXSize: 18356
OS2SubYSize: 577
OS2SubXOff: 372
OS2SubYOff: 19672
OS2SupXSize: -20304
OS2SupYSize: -80
OS2SupXOff: 4
OS2SupYOff: 17224

Even if these sub/super values do not seem to do very much in practice, this
cannot be right.

Regards, Jan

 It is.

I tested a compile of the current sarge package to which I added the
patch provided by upstream (attached) but it failed:

This looks like you've gotten yourself a double-patched file. Perhaps you
should try cleaning your build tree and trying again?

Anyway, it built for me and I've committed the patch to /branches/sarge.
I'd be happy if someone else could follow through with the security team,
though.

BTW, I've downgraded this bug from 'grave' to 'important' since, according
to upstream's security advisory, it's a DoS rather than an exploitable
privilege escalation.

Bug#378087: mozilla-mailnews: two context menus with one right-click in message list or folder pane

Package: mozilla-mailnews
Version: 2:1.7.13-0.2
Severity: normal

Whit a single right-click in the message list or folder pane, two
different context menus appear. It seems that the problem comes out when
mozilla is running for a long time. I certainly noticed this problem in
case of more than one day whitout exiting mozilla, perhaps less time
is needed.
One of these two context menus disappears if you left-click somewhere in
the mozilla-mail window, the other one need ESC key to go away.

Bug#336583: ieee80211-source: Workaround

2006-07-13 Thread Stephen Touset
Package: ieee80211-source
Version: 1.1.6-4
Followup-For: Bug #336583

This seems to be due to a call in
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.17-1-686/Makefile to crmodverdir. This
task does a mkdir -p on a directory, then rm's all the files in it.
However, it looks like this operation would fail if there are only
directories in the directory given.

My workaround for the time being was to comment out line 1090. This
might break other module build processes, though; however, it works for
building ieee80211-source.

Bug#378090: pointing at title bar of window with long title should pop up tooltip showing full title

2006-07-13 Thread Jason Spiro

Package: kwin
Version: 4:3.5.3-2
Severity: wishlist

It would be great if, when I pointed my mouse at the title bar of a
window with a long title like Index of
file:///usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/KRegExpEditor/common - Mozilla then
a tooltip appeared showing the full window title, even though my the
window is too narrow to normally show the title.

This currently already happens when I point my mouse at taskbar
buttons, but not at title bars.

I am using the B II window decoration theme. I do not know if B II has
a setting to turn this on, but even if it does, it clearly is not the
default. :-(

Jason

P.S. All, thank you for your work in writing, testing, and packaging
kwin. I love kwin and its customizability.

Bug#378089: initramfs-tools: create /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d in preinst before writing to it

2006-07-13 Thread Colin Watson
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.68b
Severity: important
Tags: patch

The .deb's filesystem archive hasn't yet been unpacked when the preinst
runs, so you aren't allowed to depend upon directories shipped in the
.deb existing at that point. Patch attached.

It also occurs to me that this bug may have produced
/etc/initramfs-tools as a regular file, due to this incautious code:

cp /etc/mkinitrd/modules /etc/initramfs-tools

You should append a trailing slash when copying to directories to defend
against this; my patch also does this.

I know :) Only from reading those two bug reports, I didn't know if this was
the case here :)

Is this not enough ? I don't really know more, apart that it doesn't work

In 288452 was certainly not enough info, but now they're merged, other people

Bug#378095: apt-proxy: Please remove transitional debconf templates

2006-07-13 Thread Thomas Huriaux
Package: apt-proxy
Severity: minor

Hi,

Your debconf templates seem to be needed only for transitions from
versions 1.9 while the version in sarge is already 1.9.29. They should
therefore be removed as they are no longer useful for a sarge to etch
transition (and probably some other transitional stuff should also be
removed).

Cheers,

I just spotted http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=20622 which was fixed
in

  http://mysql.bkbits.net:8080/mysql-5.0/[EMAIL PROTECTED]

This has been assigned CVE-2006-3486, but it looks a bit fishy to me.
Do you think this can be exploited by an user, i. e. can a normal
authenticated mysql user trigger this?

Thank you!

Bug#378105: apr-util: .pc and apu-config --libs list recursive deps

2006-07-13 Thread Peter Samuelson

Package: libaprutil1-dev

  $ pkg-config --libs apr-util-1

  $ apu-1-config --libs
-lldap -llber -ldb-4.3 -lpq -lsqlite3 -lexpat

These really should not list recursive dependencies except with the
--static flag to pkg-config.

A related point is that /usr/lib/libaprutil-1.la is not needed and
should not, IMO, be shipped. But note that deleting that would require
another trivial edit to apu-config, to make --link-libtool say the same
as --link-ld. I did not make that change.

Bug#378092: sysv-rc: Fix for startpar in /etc/init.d/rc

tags 378092 + pending
thanks

[Sören Köpping]
When using CONCURRENCY=startpar, /etc/init.d/rc starts and stops every
initscript twice. The attached patch corrects this problem.

Oh. Nasty bug. I'll fix it in sv.

What do you think about moving the CONCURRENCY= line to
/etc/default/rcS or another conffile? /etc/init.d/rc will be
 overwritten on package upgrade.

There is no need to move it. If you add your own line with
CONCURRENCY=something in /etc/default/rcS, it will override the
default in /etc/init.d/rc. This is the intended behaviour to avoid
upgrade problems.

Bug#377468: djvulibre-plugin: undefined symbol XtShellStrings in nsdejavu.so

2006-07-13 Thread Max Alekseyev

I believe to reproduce the problem it's enough to have djvulibre-plugin
installed with any Mozilla software.
In my case it's seamonkey. And it start complaining about undefined symbol
XtShellStrings in nsdejavu.so right after I started it. No other action
required. Complains go to console from where it was started.

I cannot reproduce the problem under debian-i386 so it may be amd64-specific.

Btw, I noticed the following discrepancy in i386 and amd64 builds of
nsdejavu.so:

debian-i386:
$ ldd /usr/lib/netscape/plugins-libc6/nsdejavu.so
linux-gate.so.1 = (0xe000)
libc.so.6 = /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0xb7e54000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x8000)

debian-amd64:
$ ldd /usr/lib/netscape/plugins-libc6/nsdejavu.so
libc.so.6 = /lib64/libc.so.6 (0x2b9597ab3000)
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x4000)

As one can see linux-gate.so.1 is missing in amd64 build.

In any case, I would like to make a request. Could I trouble you to
please include sufficient detail to allow replication of the bug by
someone---like me---who normally uses firefox? Best would be a
precise list of relevant installed packages, any relevant
configuration information, and whatever commands/keystrokes/URLS are

the workaround you found would also be helpful.

Also, I am not using an amd64 machine. Do you happen to know if the

Bug#364300: nice program

hi

I tried the new flpsed 0.4.2 (on a Sarge machine, gcc 3.3.5)

first I compiled fltk-2.0.x-r5253 and it compiled fine , but for
a test program requiring cairo

then I compiled flpsed

the new flpsed has a very important new feature
( for me) : the list of PS pages,
and the ability of jumping to a page

Unfortunately it is a tad buggy:
when changing page, sometimes it exits reporting
GPL Ghostscript 8.01: Cannot get ghostview property.

Thank you for trying it out. The error message looks strange to me --
the line 917 of mailfilter.crm is inside a commentary:

  #End of blacklist processing.

Could you please look at the line in your

BTW, did you upgrade from crm114 20060118 or from an older version? I'd
guess from the error message that your *.css files either got damaged or
belong to a different classification method (the default classification
method has changed in 20060118).

Does it work if you put the /dev/hda2 or whatever there?

Yes, that works! (Well, with /dev/hda3, but who's counting.)
Suggest updating/simplifying the HOWTO.

Nah, dpkg-reconfigure is better. It calls update-initramfs.

But it doesn't call update-initramfs -u, and it requires figuring
out which kernel packages are installed and reconfiguring them each,
which is a hassle to explain in a HOWTO. Advantage: update-initramfs.

Hello,

I tried to apply Ian's patch to kernel from linux-source-2.6.15-8,

That is, the tape autochanger load/unload operations that
take about 50s to complete now work successfully, without

Well, the one who committed it to CVS should definitely have checked,
and documented, if an icon is covered by copyright. If someone just took
a bunch of icons off the web and stuffed them in the CVS without
checking copyright, then we may have a problem.

I don't think you ever do with this file: clear.gif is of trivial
simplicity (16x16 empty image). You should not be worried about its
copyright, because there's nothing original in it, and thus not
copyrightable.

Bug#378086: [PyKDE] Bug#378086: python-qt4-doc: simpletreemodel.py demo does not work on AMD64

On Thursday 13 July 2006 8:54 am, Alexandre Fayolle wrote:
 Package: python-qt4-doc
 Version: 4.0-2
 Severity: normal

 Hi,

While trying to run the itemview demos on an AMD64 computer I ran into a
problem: the QModelIndex are built by passing the id() of a python object
(which is a C long integer) and the Qt API requires an int. The value
returned by index.internalId() is truncated to an int, and this value is
used to make a lookup in a python dictionary which was built using the
original 64bit value, and therefore we get a KeyError and the demo does not
 work:

 simpletreemodel$ python simpletreemodel.py
 Traceback (most recent call last):
File simpletreemodel.py, line 119, in parent
 childItem = self.object_dict[index.internalId()]
 KeyError: -414219776L
 Traceback (most recent call last):
File simpletreemodel.py, line 87, in data
 item = self.object_dict[index.internalId()]
 KeyError: -414219776L
 snip

I tried to use index.internalPointer() which returns a reference on the
python instance being referenced by the model index. This works on i386,
and segfaults on AMD64. And I am afraid that this can lead to strange
things on i386 if the TreeItem is garbage collected.

I'm CC'ing this bug report the pykde mailing list, where people may have an
 opinion on that matter.

It's fixed in the relevant examples in current PyQt4 snapshots.

Phil

Bug#279757: Status of freewrl debian package?

2006-07-13 Thread John Dalton
Hi John,

First; one of the not so active FreeWRLians has a directory on line:

Thanks for the pointers.

I notice that Debian includes a package called: spidermonkey-bin
This is a standalone implementation of the mozilla java script
engine, which I'm assuming is the source of the code in
FreeWRL's JS directory. Is it possible for FreeWRL to
have spidermonkey-bin as a dependency and to call it at run
time, thus doing away with the need for a JS directory in FreeWRL?

The simple answer is yes, absolutely. The complex answer? the
build would have to be changed in 2 ways:

 - do not go into the JS directory;
 - link against libjs.so instead of libFreeWRLjs.so

and it should work just fine.

Probing further, spidermoney-bin is an executable wrapper around the
libmozjs0d package. libmozjs0d is the embeddable JavaScript
library. Debian also provides a package libmozjs-dev,
which provides another copy of the JavaScript library, along with
header files.

libmozjs0d provides the file /usr/lib/libmozjs.so.0d
libmozjs-dev provides header files in /usr/include/mozjs/* and the
file /usr/lib/libmozjs.so

I'm guessing the right package to install and link against is
libmozjs-dev. I'm not an expert though, so someone might
want to verify this.

Yes, you are correct in pointing out that the JS source is dual
licensed. Apologies for the false alarm. (The license MPL file
for JS doesn't hve the dual licensing section filled in and
I didn't check the file headers.)

I've CC'd this to the relevant debian bug so it is on record
that FreeWRL doesn't have a licensing problem.

Regards
John

Bug#377468: djvulibre-plugin: undefined symbol XtShellStrings in nsdejavu.so

2006-07-13 Thread Barak A. Pearlmutter
Thanks.

My best guess on this right now is that the bug is an
architecture-specific amd64 bug in seamonkey, with seamonkey providing
a correct environment for plugins on i386 but not on amd64. Seamonkey
isn't a Debian package, so I can't really reassign this bug, or
(without more information from you, like full seamonkey version
details etc) even reproduce it without a lot of guesswork.

I'm therefore going to:

 - leave this bug open for now until I'm not just *guessing*, but
actually sure about what the underlying problem is.

 - try to find someone who actually knows a lot about how mozilla
plugins are supposed to work to discuss this with.

You might want to bring the issue up with the seamonkey people; they
may be in a better position to deal with it appropriately.

Thanks again for the bug report,

Bug#332857: Forgot about this bug in last upload?

Package pppconfig
Tags 332857 + patch
Thanks

Hi.

Back in October, you promised to include init.d dependency information
in your next upload. However, I can't see such information in the
package uploaded in December. Did you forget about it or did you have a
reason not to include it?
Attached is a patch which inserts LSB headers into the dns-clean script
(the init script in question).
As a side note: In theory, LSB says that restart should start a
service even if it isn't already running. I'm however not sure if this
makes any sense for the given script.

Sven

Bug#378112: gzrt: debian package, gcc warnings and more

2006-07-13 Thread Paul Wise
Hi,

some things:

  * I'm making a Debian package of gzrt
(http://bugs.debian.org/378112)
  * gcc 4.1 produces some warnings, the attached patch fixes them
  * I've written a manual page for gzrecover (attached)
  * I've re-written the Makefile so it respects CFLAGS (attached)
  * Would it be possible for you to split the compile/install
instructions out of the README, into README.build or something?
  * The copyright date in the source file needs updating, since the
years are different to the ones in the README.
  * Your ChangeLog should probably be renamed to NEWS

I place the patch, manual page and Makefile in the public domain, please
integrate them and take copyright of them.

Bug#378120: bugzilla should recommend perlmagick

2006-07-13 Thread Graham

Package: bugzilla
Version: 2.22-1

Bugzilla can optionally use Image::Magick to convert BMP images to PNG
format. This requires Image::Magick, which is provided by the
perlmagick package.

There is also a libgraphics-magick-perl package. I'm not sure
whether that is equivalent; maybe not, due to the fact that it uses a
different class name?

Thanks

Fantastic, thanks for checking.

I've committed the attached patch into SVN, and it will be in the next
release. I have a few other bits to complete first, but it will
probably be uploaded this coming weekend.

I'm an amateur with this stuff, I suggest you talk to the people on
the debian-amd64 mailing list, they've likely looked into this
already and come up with new scripts that use schroot directly.

If they want anything in particular, all they need to do is ask!

ok, I missed, and will check, that, but was deluded into thinking he

Yes. I didn't have the time to track the Zope policy and I gladly
accepted kobold offer to take over psycopg packaging. There is a deb of
v2 in the NEW queue but I don't know if he packaged zpsycopda too. Maybe
get in touch with him ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).

Bug#378125: amarok doesn't play oggs anymore

2006-07-13 Thread Andreas Pakulat
Package: amarok
Version: 1.4.1-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

I upgraded amarok today from 1.4.1-2 to 1.4.1-3 and suddenly it doesn't
play my ogg-files anymore. I always tells me that there is no decoder
installed for the files.

If you think this is only important severity then please downgrade, but
it renders the package unusable for everyone who listens to ogg's.

Bug#377119: libsvn-javahl: package name violates Java policy

2006-07-13 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hello all,

In other words, if distributing the jar 'svn-javahl.jar', the package
should be named 'libsvn-javahl-java'. Though I can't help but wondering
about the value of the javahl part of the package name.

I really doubt that this issue is release critical. I've looked through this
file:
http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt and there's nothing in
there that would qualify the package as unsuitable for release. While I
can understand that it's good if the package names are all according to
some specified scheme, I don't think that the wrong name makes the
package in such a broken state that we should prevent it from being
released.

I therefore propose to lower the severity to important. It should still
be fixed of course.

Thijs

Bug#378122: moreutils: 'man vidir': are the numbers items?

2006-07-13 Thread A. Costa
Package: moreutils
Version: 0.14
Severity: normal

'vidir' prefaces every file dir with a number. The man page
doesn't mention the numbers or what they do:

...Delete *items* to remove them from the directory, or edit
   their names to rename them.

For example, if the user deletes the filename, but not the number,
'vidir' gets confused and tries to rename the file to a blank and
returns an error. So an item above means two things:

1) renaming: just the filename, not the number.
2) deletion: both the number and filename.

Also 'vidir' can't handle a blank line -- it's not enough to remove the
number and the filename, the linefeed has to be removed as well. That's
either a bug or a feature.

Suggested revision:

...Delete an entire line to remove a file from the directory, or edit
just its name to rename it.

Hope this helps...

I fully understand your point of view, and I have written in my original
bug report that nslu2 is maybe not a subarchitecture release, so the bug
is maybe not so critical.

However, I also maintain that this kernel is not usable. Your disk is
filled in one or two hours, and the load of the machine is between 1.5

I have reported the bug against the 2.6.16 version as I think it is
important for the release. However if you plan to fix the bug later,
fixing it in 2.6.17 is also ok for me. I am not sure my machine is fast
enough to rebuilt the kernel myself (also given the current load I get
doing nothing except filling /var/log/syslog), and I am using this
machine to make test builds of the glibc.

Isn't there a way to work around this at run time (i.e. setting a value to
0 in /proc somewhere that disables the debugging)?

Well I have looked at the code, the debugging messages are printed using
printk(), and their inclusion or not in the final code is done by
preprocessor options (#ifdef #endif).
